POLICE believe the hijacking of a car by four masked men in Derry may be linked to a security alert in the city.
In a significant increase in paramilitary-style activity, the latest incident came after two shootings in the city within two days.
A police spokesman said the hijacking and burning of a Mitsubishi Outlander vehicle in the Cornshell Fields area of Shantallow came shortly before the discovery of what turned out to be an elaborate hoax device.
