The historic Union Building on Kanawha Boulevard in Charleston is up for public auction, according to a listing by Joe R. Pyle Complete Auction & Realty Service. According to the Kanawha County Assessor's office, the building is owned by Union Building LLC. West Virginia Secretary of State's business records lists Martin Riggs, president of the Riggs Corporation as the manager of the LLC. At the time of its completion in 1911, the Union Building was the tallest in the state and a symbol of the city’s early banking and business prosperity. Its name comes from the fact that the Union Trust Company was the building’s original tenant.
