Activity Description
Influenza places a substantial burden on the health of both children and adults in the United States each year. Although immunization helps to prevent flu infection, there is a need for improved diagnostics, treatments, and preventive measures, especially in high-risk patients who have comorbid illnesses or who are immunocompromised. Patients with rheumatic disorders are particularly vulnerable to infections because of abnormalities in their immune system and the immunosuppressive effects of the medications. Therefore, it is important that rheumatologists and internists are competent in their management of patients who have a rheumatic disease and are either exposed to or contract influenza, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this continuing educational activity, expert clinicians will discuss the latest updates on diagnosing and treating influenza.
