Irwin fire department proposes $1 million building

• New Irwin Public School building on same site for elementary and junior high school students
• Irwin Public School educates all Irwin students when Irwin-North Huntingdon jointure ends in 1946
• All Irwin students continued to attend Sixth Street School until merger with North Huntingdon formed Norwin in 1958
• Served again as elementary school building
• Closed in late 1980s and remains vacant
• Norwin School District sells property to Irwin Borough for $1 in November 1995
• Building razed in 1998

The Irwin fire department want to build a $1 million hall to house trucks, ambulances, a meeting room and possibly borough offices and police department at the site of the former Sixth Street School.
