And im larry beil in for dan ashley. Lets check in with our meteorologist sandhya patel to see what the conditions are and how strong the wind is blowing around that Lake Berryessa area. It is gusty in the area where the brush fire is burning. Temperature 73 degrees. Relative humidity is about 35 but the wind out of the southwest to 23 gusting to 31 is no help to firefighters. This is generally an area that tends to get windy and this is the closest reporting site to the Lake Berryessa fire location. As we take a look at our radar signature you see where Lake Berryessa is and you see green returns. The intensity of the fire is getting picked up on radar. You can see where the smoke is heading towards the winters area. Right now it is windy in other parts of the bay area as well with gusts to 36 at fairfield. We are expecting winds near the Lake Berryessa fire to continue to remain on the gusty side through this evening. Thank you so much for that update on the weather conditions. Now to our other top story tonight. The death of Sergeant Scott lunger killed in the line of duty. The Hayward Police department is heart broken. Scott loved his job and did it eagerly. This is a tragedy that someone has done this and the department is devastated. Police say the man who killed lunger is 21yearold mark estrada. The shooting happened during a stop in hayward. The driver took off abandoning his truck in oakland. Sergeant lunger was taken to Eden Medical Center where he later died. We have Team Coverage for you tonight. We begin with Laura Anthony at the crime scene. Reporter i am standing right where the shooting happened. A few minutes ago the chief of the Hayward Police department held an Emotional Press Conference her priority clearly talking about the man who lost his life here early this morning. He was a great leader here in our organization. He inspired people every day, an incredible friend a great father, a brother, a husband a partner. We have really suffered a tremendous loss today and the world is a little worse with him being gone. Reporter now she went on to confirm that a man has been arrested, 21 years old from oakland. His family owns a business here in hayward. Said a gun has been recovered and the suspect is associated with a gang. Bam, bam, bam. Reporter witnesses say the shots came in rapid succession. One burst brief pause and then longer burst of gun fire. The shots were so rapid fire that it was war like almost. Bam, bam bam bam. Reporter when the shooting stopped the veteran police Sergeant Scott lunger lay wounded. This is a dark day for the community of hayward, the Hayward Police department, the family of our department and the men and women of law enforcement. Reporter with lunger down another officer fired at the suspect in a white pickup as it sped away. A bullet riddled truck was located a short time later abandoned in oakland near the intersection of 98th avenue. Abc 7 news learned a man Hayward Police describe as a person of interest showed up at Highland Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. Identified the man as 22yearold mark estradda of oakland. No officer comes to work wanting to be involved in Something Like that. They are very difficult for those involved and for the families and the community. Reporter everybody who arrived here at Police Headquarters you can sense their pain. You can see the utter sadness on their face. They have created quite the tribute to the fallen officer. You can see the batman figurine behind me and it exemplifies the type of officer officer scott lunger was who said he was a role model for everyone in her 350person department and inspiration as a father of two teenaged daughters. We have been at Hayward PoliceDepartment Since 10 00 this morning about the time random strangers started arriving to place flowers. It is a testament to how everyone is stepping up in this time of great pain for the community. My father was a Police Officer for 30 years and its family. Straight up, its family. Got to take care of family. We went through our own little crisis. We believe he was the officer that helped us out. He his face is very familiar to me and his name was very familiar to me. I wanted to make sure i honor him because he was very helpful. Reporter Union City Officers are helping as her department is stretched thin. The sheriff chaplain has been here helping officers cope. We will have more from a hayward resident who lives near the shooting scene. She recovered the officers hat and brought it to the memorial. We will have more on what meaning she finds in having found that hat. Thank you. Sergeant scott lunger will be missed far beyond Hayward Police department cht he was an assistant softball coach. He coached the girls team for the past five years there. After hearing about the shooting some softball players dropped off flowers. The girls loved him. He was an individual who gave his time. He not only focused on the development of softball for our athletes but also talked with our girls and developing them into fine young ladies to succeed in life. Students are planning a bigger memorial for Sergeant Lunger when classes resume next monday. Like many the Hayward Police department considers officers family. It is made up of 174 officers. Sergeant lunger is the fourth to die in the line of duty. The department hasnt lost an officer since 1987 28 years ago. Law enforcement agencies all over the bay area are sharing their condolences to honor hayward Sergeant Scott lunger. And chp marn says we mourn the loss of Sergeant Lunger. Cal fire rescued three hikers by helicopter trapped in the area. Evacuation orders are in place for the canyon creek camp ground. Officials tell us this is a very remote area. Police send federal agents swoop down on an east bay apartment and rescued a young woman who they say was lured to the u. S. And trafficked by two men. The woman was rescued near richmonds iron triangle. Both men were arrested. Vic lee is live with our story. Reporter police raided an apartment on the bottom level of a twostory building in the iron triangle. Strangely enough neighbors there tell us they never noticed anything abnormal nor did they suspect that the woman was being trafficked. She was tall slender long hair. Reporter this woman did not want her identity revealed, one of several neighbors who regularly saw the woman police say was forced to live in a closet and sexually abused. On tuesday Richmond Police raided this home on chancellor street. They were arresting two guys and taking the lady with them also. Reporter the two guys, the suspect and his relative were arrested on suspicion of Human Trafficking. Police did not release their names but say one of the men corresponded on facebook with a victim who lived in nicaragua. They say he lured her to the states a year ago with a promise of a job and a good life. Neighbor told us the man was a painter. He also had a wife and child. But then i think she moved out and then there was another girl that i saw there. Reporter maria cant believe she was a sex slave because she moved freely outside the home. I used to see the lady cleaning open the doors wide up and cleaning. Reporter it took Richmond Police 12 hours after they received a tip from Homeland Security to make the arrest. Domestic and Sexual Violence investigators work out of the new justice center. They quickly coordinated response with the centers advocates and rescued the woman. We believe this is a Human Trafficking case because there was either fraud or coercion involved. Reporter the investigation continues.
