Im so sick of people robbing american blacks like myself of our history. It drew the attention of the president s oldest son, donald trump jr. , who shared it to his millions of followers asking, is this true . Wow. His spokesperson telling abc news it was a misunderstanding, that don jr. Asked the question because he was unaware of harris heritage, adding, once he saw that folks were misconstruing the intent of his tweet, he quickly deleted it. The Harris Campaign firing back saying, this is the same type of racist attack his father used to attack barack obama. It didnt work then, and it wont work now. Referring to the socalled Birther Movement that falsely claimed president obama was not born in the united states. One of its loudest voices . Donald trump. I want him to show his birth certificate. Reporter as a candidate for president , trump finally acknowledged obama was born in hawaii. Harris 2020 democratic rivals putting politics aside to come to her defense and going after the president s son. He tweeted it out, and then he deleted it. Like a coward, so he can say, oh, that was just a mistake. But he knows what hes doing. Hes giving voice to these racist utterances about senator harris. Reporter so many of those Democratic Candidates came forward saying they felt like it was their obligation to say something. And as for senator harris, there is just no question on where she stands on this. She identifies as a black american. She graduated from a historically black university. That the racists would be coming out to comment about a black woman whos running for president. And when it comes to birtherism, i will say it was racist, disgusting, horrible, and wrong. We should call it for what it is. Youre saying in this case . For birtherism for president obama, for this for Kamala Harris. Also this. Obviously people are saying, one cant be saying racist, others are saying it was misconstrued. There are people out there who have threatened or said nasty things about people in color, especially those who are running for president , and thats a fact. Yes. I do agree with that. I do think birtherism is 100 wrong through and through. I dont know that that is what this is in the case. Theres a growing movement, ados, american descendent of slaves, and it is that group that looks to someone like Kamala Harris, who can appreciate anyone black who is running for president , but feels like if you are not an american descendent of a slave, you have different priorities, different experience in the country than maybe someone like Kamala Harris. So im just saying that that is a group that is a growing movement, thats something that was pointed out over the weekend in the discussions about this. And so i dont know that that is i dont know. I dont think its the same. I think theyre saying that there are just the way that theyre attacking the candidates for who they are. Yes. I think thats what the link theyre trying to make here. Not saying theyre the exact same things. I dont think anyones questioning that she was born in america. Right. She is an american. But the harris camp, im pretty sure they were ready for this and theyre ready to fight back at the trolls. Absolutely. Who come at them as well. Yes. Reporter police releasing this Surveillance Video from 2017 where they say he walks up to that mercedes car, shoots and kills john torres in the passenger seat, wounds a woman with him. All this stemming from an argument inside a nearby strip club. According to Dallas County court records, carrillo was released on 100,000 bond after his arrest for the murder. The victims family tells abc news there are no words to describe how we feel. I know my son will get justice. He will pay for what he did. Jurors convicted carrillo even though he was a no show. Hes been sentenced to life in prison. Police say they are reinterviewing family and friends, anyone that knows him, so they can convince carrillo to turn himself in. Federal aviation investigators have their hands full because the wreckage of the small plane was engulfed in flames. All ten people on board lost their lives in the crash. One part of the investigation will look at the crews experience in their communication with air traffic controllers. Overnight government investigators giving an update into the plane crash and inferno that took ten lives. The crash occurred at 9 11 a. M. Here at the Addison Airport and the aircraft collided with a hangar. Reporter a team with the ntsb now going through the wreckage at the Addison Airport north of dallas trying to find out why the small twinengine plane like this one slammed into this hangar just after takeoff. No one on board survived. Attention all aircraft on the tower, everybody stand by. We had an accident on the field. Expect not to go out any time soon. Reporter witnesses say the plane veered to the left before rolling over and smashing into the hangar. Black smoke could be seen for miles. It was really thick. Like you could tell there was some burning chemicals or gas or oil. Reporter a small jet and helicopter inside the hangar were also damaged. And investigators say theyre looking at video of the crash but have yet to release it. The victims on board include two crew members and eight passengers. The plane was headed from texas to st. Petersburg, florida. Officials are working to notify next of kin. Those ntsb investigators say the plane recently changed hands so they havent been able to correctly identify the tail number on the plane. Later today we expect to learn more about who was on board. There are also obviously republican supporters who are coming out in defense of the president saying that this doesnt do any harm to try to reengage and try to talk to north korea. Moving on, Funeral Services will be held today for the migrant father and daughter who drowned in the rio grande while trying to make it to the u. S. The bodies of 25yearoldyearold Oscar Alberto martinez and 23monthold valeriya were returned to their hometown in salvador. Authorities in texas are looking for a 25yearold convicted murderer, rene carrillo. He was free on bond while being tried for the 2017 murder of a man outside a strip club in dallas. He failed to show up for court and prosecutors say he cut off his ankle monitor and went on the run. That same day he was sentenced to 99 years in prison. He will face additional charges for fleeing and jumping bail when he is recaptured. The search for a missing hiker in the grand canyon moves into its third day today. Peter schwab was last seen friday. The 66yearold was on a river trip and then left for what was supposed to be a day hike. Police in the Dominican Republic will have more information today on the latest arrest in the david ortiz shooting. 14 people are now in custody. This years pride events paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of the stonewall uprising which started the modern lgbtq movement. Singer Melissa Etheridge helped bring the party to a close performing at a concert here in times square. You know, even if you werent right here in manhattan today to see all of the rainbows all over, even the skyline was lit up. The Empire State Building there in the rainbow colors. There was one point today, i was walking through, looking to meet some friends, and there was confetti on the ground. And it like kicked up in the wind and i was like, it is just raining confetti today. It was very happy. Its like a rainbow, colorful unicorn just exploded over this city. Lots of love. I was out on those streets yesterday and it was beautiful to see. So many people out and about. The streets were packed with and flowing with love and pride. And it was just incredible to see. The parade was cut short because of thunderstorms which rolled through the area. The event was canceled three hours after it began. Powerful storms brought down trees and power lines in connecticut and on new york citys long island. Te of thousas pple lost power. Some of the wind from those storms was over 70 miles an hour.
