Reporter the heavy downpour over the weekend had nowhere to go once it hit wawona street and 15th avenue. Water was gushing out from underneath these homes. Sewage spread across this road. Shes wearing a hazmat suit to suck up the stuff in the intersection. That stuff was a foot deep in my master bedroom. Why am i not in a hazmat suit . Reporter these residents are dealing with the aftermath and paying up to 5,000 to clean up. It takes 24 hours, especially with the water that came up from outside, it takes 24 hours to get mold inside. If we dont do that right away, theres a lot of damage in their homes. Reporter they had crews working over the weekend but only deal with whats on the surface. Our crews came out with a sweeper truck and helped clear up that debris after the incident. Reporter we questioned the San FranciscoPublic Utilities commission. They are in charge of the drains and responsible for areas prone to flooding. Their answer, the drain system was not big enough, but they say they have a plan. Were in the design phase of a program that will increase the size of the drain, storm drain system in that neighborhood. We expect that to begin in 2021. And again, that will bring it up to the level of service of the fiveyear storm. Reporter meanwhile norman yee said the city has to do more and speed up implementing the 700 million that we already allocated to make improvements to upgrade our storm drains and sewer systems. Answers that are not good enough for many. My biggest concern is that this neighborhood gets ignored and taken for granted. Thats not right. Reporter and that drain system the city is working on wont be implemented until 2021, which means if more rain falls here, the chances of this getting flooded again are extremely high. Back to you. Now, luz, who helped those neighbors during the flood, and what are the options now . Reporter yeah, so we were here saturday and the only people that we saw here helping were the neighbors. They were helping themselves and San FranciscoFire Department. Now, the options they have now in case of another flood that we expect for it to happen is basically to brace themselves with more sandbags and to claim with the city for any property damages. Here live in San Francisco, luz pena, abc 7 news. All right, luz, thanks very much. Another storm is in the forecast for tomorrow, although its a light one, ranking 1 on the abc 7 storm impact scale. Drew tuma is here. Drew, how much rain did we get this weekend . Some spots saw well over 2 inches of rain. It was the intensity of the rain on saturday that caused that localized flooding like you saw in west portal and parts of San Francisco. Were not expecting that intensity of rain with our next storm system but rain totals very impressive. Santa rosa, more than 2. 5 inches of rain, close to 1. 5 in San Francisco. Livermore and san jose coming in with just about half of an inch of rain. Theres our next storm system. Were tracking a cold front on live doppler 7. That will move in here tomorrow night. In the south bay, this may look like little red riding hood, but a Business Owner says its really a burglar. A San Jose Store is looking to their community to help catch the thief. Chris reyes is live with the story for us tonight. Hi, kris. Reporter hi, ama, good evening, dan. That theft was captured by that Security Camera in the corner of this building here in willow glen. That camera belongs to this flower shop. The owners told me that the thieves took off with at least 10,000 worth of their belongings, including a clients valuable heirloom. They want the publics help to identify these thieves. Take a closer look at the footage. They ended up opening this loading dock. Reporter this is what was caught on their Security Camera, two people scoping out the back. The business posted this photo on facebook, a Woman Holding an urn. That urn is a valuable heirloom that belonged to one of his clients. Were talking about 4 40 a. M. When they got here, they were able to get into the space. They went straight to my office. Containers were in this particular spot. Whatever they can ended up taking from here, went into my drawer, got stuff from here. Went inside the printer where i have the rest of the files and computers. They took as much as they could. Reporter the owners say at least 10,000 worth of items were stolen. They filed a police report, but its their Facebook Community thats been more helpful with tips an leads. Everybody is texting me. Today we got a hint of the names, possible names for the people. Theres another person that ended up calling us. She works with the homeless and with the people in need and shes like im familiar with who that person is. Reporter escalante says the been in his store before. He worries for this complex hes in full of independent businesses. In october their neighbor, good karma bikes, was hit twice by theft. We spotted broken glass in the parking lot and he says theres been a number of breakins and vandalism the last year. I think people are tired at this point to just be doing the reports, right, to the police because no one is doing anythin anything. Reporter all right. You know, what they told me is that this is really hurtful during the Holiday Season, but what they really wanting back is that heirloom. And again theyre asking for the publics help. Take a closer look and follow the thread on their facebook page. All of that is on our website, abc7news. Com. Kris reyes. Laura anthony tweeted this video showing petted carriers in the van as well as this video of an oakland animal control officer holding one of the rescued puppies. The van was filled with dogs when someone stole it from the parking lot of a hotel in fremont. Investigators used the vans builtin gps and tracked it to oakland with 24 dogs still inside. Police are still trying to determine if any are missing. Julie bingham runs a dog transport business and says at the time the van was stolen, it was locked with the Engine Running so the animals had ventilation, food and water. I gave the officer a big hug. I was literally away from the van like three and a half, four hours at the most. Reporter Oakland Police say the accused thief was trying to sell the dogs. A second man detained by officers says he was just trying to buy one. One of the most basic steps in building a better bay area of course is safety. The bay areas largest city hit an unfortunate milestone over the weekend. The number of pedestrian fatalities reached an alltime high. The latest incident happened on one of san joses most dangerous roads. Chris nguyen explains why the problem could get even worse. Reporter a tragedy in san jose has some people thinking twice before hitting the roads. Saturday night a man walking in traffic on story road near karl street was killed after being struck by a vehicle. In this case, the driver stayed and cooperated with police, who say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors. It gets you thinking and it makes you kind of aware of the potential that we are in a very shared space between pedestrians and vehicles. Reporter the incident marked san joses 25th Pedestrian Fatality of the year, an alltime high. Our challenge is to fix the environment so that everybody is equally safe. Reporter kelly snyder says the high fatality rate isnt a surprise given the citys overall growth and dependency on automobiles. We have more people, we have more pedestrians, we have more drivers. And that means statistically theres going to be a greater chance of conflict. Reporter san joses Vision Zero Program aims to eliminate all traffic deaths in the city, but city officials will be the first to admit they have a long way to go. Big infrastructure changes take a lot of time. Changing the way that roads are built is a long process. Reporter as the nights get longer and the roads get wetter, the city expects vehicle fatalities to go up. They have displayed signs like this asking drivers to be mindful. To be on their best behavior, to look out for others and not let their bad decision become somebodys fatal incident. Reporter this is the citys 56th trafficrelated fatality of the year. Were in san jose tonight. Im chris nguyen, abc 7 news. San franciscos Vision Zero Program will report new data tomorrow. Abc 7 news is getting a sneak peek tonight. More motorcyclists are suffering severe injuries lately. They have hit in fact an alltime high. The report studies an eightyear period starting in 2011. Vision zero was adopted in 2014. A popular doughnut shop on the peninsula is closing. Joining the many other businesses that are being priced out. If youre from san carlos or live near there, youve heard of chucks doughnut shop probably. Tonight the store owner is saying goodbye to her local clientele and Lyanne Melendez is live on the peninsula tonight as she also says goodbye to an institution. Reporter oh, my god, dan, let me tell you, i look at these doughnuts and i promise you that i feel like im gaining all this weight. When people found out that chucks was closing, they came from places like oakland, pittsburg, San Francisco to claim their last dozen. Chucks doughnut shop in san carlos has long lived up to its reputation as being one of the best on the peninsula. So ive got some apple frilters, glazed doughnuts. Oldfashioned chocolate and maple. Reporter the owner started working here in 1985 and bought the place a few years later. A single mom from cambodia who seemed to embody the american dream, and someone you just dont say no to. Maple oldfashioned. Yeah, try it. Oh, my god, delicious. But then she offers me this one and says french cooler. She says high in cholesterol, really . Reporter but like so many mom and pop shops in the bay area, the rent got to be too high, forcing her to drop out. Its sad. My life, it change. Reporter her son, ben, posted it on facebook and the public quickly responded. I would say its the best place in the bay area, yeah. I grew up in rochester. We had a local doughnut place there so i like local doughnut shops. This was the place to go, the place to be if you were out of school, out of work, during lunch. This was the place a lot of people called home just like i did. Reporter it was a place to come and now, sadly, a place to remember. And i know that our very own kristen sze sent her daughter to get a dozen doughnuts here. But guys, i got these for you. Am i good . I got your back. Youre so sweet are a couple missing . Reporter come on so ungrateful. Im not bringing them in tomorrow. Please do. I have to say i love doughnuts. I hate to see it go. What is the owner planning to do now . Reporter well, good question. I dont think she knows. I asked her that and she said, well, im not sure what im going to do. Im not ready to retire yet, but maybe, who knows, shell reopen somewhere else. We can only wish, dan. That would be nice. Thank you. Reporter can i keep them . No. Bring them in, please. Please. Beloved by a lot of people. It would be great if they did show up somewhere else. Especially near my house. Lets talk about the weather forecast. More rain is coming. Meteorologist drew tuma has the timing for us. Drew. Yeah, before we track those showers for some tomorrow night, tomorrow morning were going to be dealing with dense fog. Very similar to what we experienced earlier this morning. Live doppler 7 tonight giving the active sweep across the entire region. No precipitation to be had tonight. So the picture action are well go outside on sutro tower right now. A live look from this vantage point, we are fogfree. You can see San Francisco city hall decked out in red and green for the Holiday Season. The accuweather highlights, what were expecting the next couple of days, well track some thick fog for the morning commute. Visibility will be reduced dramatically again tomorrow morning. So take it easy, slow down. The distance between you and the car in front of you. After that fog gets out of here, tomorrow night well track showers for some and theres even a chance for drizzle first thing in the morning on wednesday. Well show you the hourbyhour forecast in one minute. Right now were slowly falling through the 50s. 54 in the city, 55 in oakland, 54 in san jose. Napa one degree cooler coming in at 53 degrees. So overnight tonight the big story will be that fog turning dense in spots. Numbers will continue to fall into the 40s over the next 12 hours so it is a cool start to the day again tomorrow morning but the fog is the biggest issue. First thing in the morning well stop the clock. Your tuesday as the morning rush is under way. When you see those numbers reach 0, that is visibility in miles. That is very dense fog like napa an concord first thing in the morning. And the fog, like it was this morning, very gradual to get out of here. So by lunchtime were still seeing foggy spots, but visibility is improving throughout the day. So highs on your tuesday with that morning fog, overcast skies will linger. So limited sunshine on our tuesday. 53 in santa rosa and concord, up to about 59 degrees. Then well track a chance for showers tomorrow night into wednesday morning. Were not expecting anywhere near the amount of rain we expected the past weekend. The best chance is in the north bay. Scattered light showers, really minimumal rainfall and a low impact event. So well start the clock, 6 30 tomorrow evening. A lot of cloud cover, some drizzle close to ukiah. As we advance the clock into the Early Morning hours on our wednesday, you can find the chance of any wet weather really confined to the north bay and right along the coastline. I think a lot of spots along the peninsula and the south bay and the east bay will remain dry. Well see a lot of cloud cover over the next couple of days. Heres the accuweather sevenday forecast. Morning fog tomorrow. Meteorologist mike nicco will be tracking that fog for you starting at 4 30 tomorrow morning. Theres a chance in the north bay of a light shower. You can see a lot of cloud cover throughout the week ahead, limited sunshine. Our best bet of finding any widespread rain will be friday night into saturday with a level one system. So we do get a chance to dry out but a little rainfall here and there. Thanks, drew. Coming up next, victory for isabel. Well have temperatures settling in the mid40s for a lot of neighborhoods first thing in the morning. To break down the day for you, theres that dense fog, first thing very slow to get out of here. Were left over with a lot of cloud cover and temperatures mainly in the 50s to near 60 degrees. But tomorrow night we bring in the storm impact scale for a chance of a light shower. The best chance of finding any wet weather really lies in the north bay. Were talking minimumal rainfall. Its a very low impact event. The accuweather sevenday forecast shows you the week ahead were stuck with a lot of cloud cover. Its very stubborn to get out of here. Well see peeks of sunshine from time to time but the best bet of finding wet weather will come on saturday before sunny skies come in for sunday and monday. Thank you, drew. What a game this weekend. Yeah, larry is here. Good stuff. This was unbelievable. Who knows, maybe well see it again down the road. We look back at some of the best calls from the best game of the year with the 49ers. This was an instant classic between the 49ers and saints yesterday. 4846 niners, a game loaded with so many big plays. A battle of what will likely be nfc playoff heavyweights. Clearly Jimmy Garoppolos best game as a niner and play calling magnificence by kyle shanahan. The niners threw everything at the saints. How about inside handoff, to Emmanuel Sanders throwing to a wide opren raheem mostert. What do you call on fourth and two with the game on the line . How about get it to your best player, george kittle. This is fullon beast mode. It takes half the team and a face mask to stop him and he sets up the gamewinning kick. What a game its fun. A lot of fun. Its kind of why you do this. Thats kiejd of what i said. When coaches do that stuff, thats why they want to retire and take a year off because their heart hurts but after two weeks off you have to get back because you get addicted to that type stuff and its a lot of fun. Right after the game you just want to lay down and decompress and halfway home on the plane it hits you and you start having some fun. This win came at a cost. Richard sherman will miss the next few games with an injured hamstring. And weston richburg, you see 58, hes done for the rest of the season with a knee injury, will need surgery. Dee ford retweaked his hamstring. The raiders only one game left in the coliseum after their collapse against tennessee. Signs of hope only a few weeks ago have turned into a threegame losing streak, some really poor defense. Mark davis, what . Whats going on here . A 67 record. The raiders will host jacksonville in their oakland finale on sunday before they move to vegas. Deep down everybody wants to deliver. We wanted to deliver yesterday. We dont ever step into our own stadium or any stadium with the intention of doing anything but delivering for our fans. So yeah, its im sure guys that have been with the raiders for a little while probably feel the emotion more than others. But right now weve got to try to win a Football Game and we would like to deliver certainly for our fans. Not long ago it took two seasons for the warriors to lose a total of 24 games. This year, theres a chance theyll lose 24 by christmas. Theyre at 19 ls going into tonights game against memphis at chase center. They have six more games before their Christmas Day contest against houston. Now, part of the problem here obviously, you had steph curry out, Klay Thompson out, a lack of healthy bodies. They had a sevengame stretch they had fewer than ten available guys. Only eight players. A great majority are young, new to the team. Draymond green says all of this is very new for coach steve kerr. Steve as a coach, hes never been through this. Hes only won. So this is different for him as well. Hes handled it really well. You know, i understand the circumstances and were a young team and continuing to lift guys up. Baseball free agency, Stephen Strasburg agreed to stay with the washington nationals, seven years, 245 million contract. Biggest contract ever for a pitcher. This past season strasburg had 18 wins, led the National League with 209 innings pitched. Nats won their first world series but 35 millio a year is rather steep. Well, the raiders lost yesterday but there was a hall of fame worthy play made at the coliseum orchestrated by frankie castro. His girlfriend, laura, has no idea whats about to happen during the morning tailgate. Friends and family handing her roses. Shes taking them but not sure why. They had been in the parking lot about three hours. Frankie was pacing, nervous about pulling this off. He had been planning this for months. Had a friend take her to the bathroom moments earlier to make sure he got it all rehearsed and ready to go. Down on one knee. His moment to pop the question. Laura says yes, and now they have a wedding to plan. That is awesome. I talked to them today. Oh, you did . Theyre just so sweet. But frankie was telling me a lot of guys that were there like well what am i going to do . This is so epic. Am i going to take my girl up in a helicopter . Ive got to do something elaborate. Yes, do that. Anyway, congratulations. Great for them. Thanks, larry. Join us tonight for the news at 11 00.
