Now for gas prices, the department of energy saying the National Average for gas is 2. 53 for regular. Now, the good news is experts expect prices to drop a bit more before the new year and in some parts of the south, michael, you could actually find gas for under 2 a gallon. That sounds like a dream but with so many people on the road, is there a time you should stay off the roads with so many people traveling . Reporter yeah. Speaker nancy pelosi so far refusing to send the articles of impeachment over to the senate, and now with the house adjourned for the holidays, the big question this morning, when will president trumps trial in the senate begin . Mary bruce is there with the latest on this impasse. What is the speakers strategy going into this . Reporter this is a bit of a risky move but democrats are hoping holding up the articles of impeachment will give them more leverage as they troy to negotiate what a trial in the senate will actually look like and democrats are trying to call the president s bluff. He has said he would like his top aides to testify. Democrats would like him to prove it. These talks are at an impasse, democrats are demanding witnesses like acting white house chief of staff Mick Mulvaney and former security adviser john bolton. Republicans arent budging. They want a quick trial with no witnesses. Leader Mitch Mcconnell says, if the speaker wants to prevent a trial here in the senate, quote, fine with me, but the president wants this trial, and one of his top allies says trump is, quote, mad as hell, cecilia. Reporter cecilia, these fastmoving developments coming a full weak after Heidi Broussard and her young daughter were reported missing. A source close to abc news is reporting that a body was found overnight that is that of broussard and we also know that a 1monthold baby was also found there. Dozens of Law Enforcement officers swooping in on this home near houston overnight. The Texas Department of Public Safety official saying investigators were there at the home in connection with the disappearance of Heidi Broussard and her 3weekold daughter who went missing december 12th. A 1monthold baby was found safe and unharmed according to a Fire Department official, but the infants name has not been released. This is the last known image of the 33yearold mother, a surveillance picture of her dropping off her 6yearold son at school. She never returned to pick him up. Her fiance shane carey who has been pleading for her return says her purse and wallet were left inside her unlocked car. Her babys diaper bag was inside the apartment but her keys and cell phone were gone. Drop her off anywhere. I dont care. Just make sure shes safe and okay and the baby is okay. It happened so quickly, pat tells me it came out of nowhere and the pain sent him into the fetal position. When he was wheeled into that emergency surgery, he did not know if he would make it out. Longtime cohost vanna white stepping in at the last minute to fill sajaks shoes. Tell me, how are you feeling now . Im feeling great. Ive actually felt ridiculously good for several weeks. Ive been back in the studio doing several shows and even spinning the wheel, and nothing has popped, so i think its okay. Tell me what happened. My daughter maggie and i took a walk in the morning as we traditionally do early, and i came home ready to get ready to go to work, and suddenly i had this horrific pain in my stomach and obviously didnt know what it is, but within 2 1 2 hours i was in surgery. I mean it was that quick and that intense. Yeah, so set the record straight. All we know is there was an intestinal blockage is whats reported. The intestines i dont know the official name but the intestines no one knows why but they can get tangled up and start working against each other and killing tissue, and if you dont deal with it quickly, itll kill enough tissue that itll kill you. You said they had to operate right away. Was it life or death at that moment . Well, my Blood Pressure had fallen dramatically. They had to wait till it lifted a bit so they could do the surgery. Yeah, i mean, no one knew. It was tough on leslie, my wife, and our daughter was with me, and they were they didnt know. You go in and dont know if im coming out. Give me a word to describe the pain. Excruciating. It was you couldnt do anything. I was in the fetal position lying on the bed, so they try to give you various drugs for the pain, and none was working and then they gave me something. I couldnt even tell you the name of it but suddenly i wasnt thinking about the pain. I just had these beautiful pastels and lovely faces coming out of it, and in the background i could hear my wife and daughter talking. It sounded like they were a mile off but right next to me and talking to each other, and i remember thinking not in a maudlin way, i think this must be death. This must be what death is like. Wow. And all i thought of was hearing their voices, i thought, boy, their lives are going to change now and i felt badly for them. I didnt feel badly about dying, i felt badly that they would have to deal with the aftermath. As it turned out i was just high. It was nothing else. But in that moment you thought this might be. Yeah, but it was its an odd thing when youre in that moment, it wasnt i wasnt heartbroken about it. I wasnt devastated by it. I just felt badly for those around me whose lives i thought would change. The doctors, did they tell you this is is this a fairly Successful Surgery . Completely successful. Theyre kind of at a loss to know exactly why it happened but theres no aftereffect. As i say, theres no underlying medical issue. I dont have to change anything about my life. Im as good or bad as new and thats great. You still have your wits about you. I still have my wits about me. They didnt remove that hopefully so ill be selling vowels for a long time. You were out of work for a month. What was it like to get back to the studio . In nearly 40 years i never missed a taping so it was very strange. It felt really bizarre to know that was going on without me and going on well without me, that really was troubling. So vanna has filled in for you. Everybodys in the game. What a trouper. Im not being condescending in any way because it would have been well within her rights to say no, this is not what youre paying for me and this is not what i do but id rather not. But shes a team player and she was very nervous and not comfortable because its a role shes not it happened very quickly. She didnt have a lot of time to prepare. The next day she was in the studio taping and did a great job. I did find she does like hosting and im a little nervous but not all that nervous. When i went back taping last week youd be a great letter turner, pat. Thank you. When i went back taping last week she brought in some homemade cupcakes and i did have someone else taste mine first before i ate it. I dont think she would do anything to me. Did you give her any advice . I said do not go on social media because there are going to be people who are jerks and theyre going to say nasty things because they can. Because they can communicate with you directly and be anonymous. I dont understand why people have to be so nasty. Shes doing her best. She didnt ask to be put in that position. How much longer do you want to do this . I dont know. Im not getting any younger. A couple years. Im sensitive about, i would rather leave a couple years too early than a couple years too late. It would be hard to imagine a World Without pat sajak at the helm of wheel of fortune. Doctors have no idea why this happened to him. But they told him he doesnt have to modify his diet or lifestyle. Nothing has to change. Hes no different except he has a very large scar and jokes that his swimsuit modeling days are now over. You can see he definitely has his wits about him. As funny as ever. He says typically the doctors say it happens to someone whos had multiple surgeries and have scar tissue thats built up but no preexisting conditions or previous surgeries. As millions travel this weekend for the holidays, something important that may be missing from your flight, certain lifesaving drugs. Kyra phillips is here with this important gma investigates. Good morning, kyra. Reporter good morning, george. While the faa requires all commercial passenger planes to have an emergency medical kit on board, those kits dont have to carry epipens, imperative when a passenger suffers a lifethreatening allergic reaction, and as we discovered in our investigation, its not the only emergency medication that may not be on your flight. This family had one of their best vacations in aruba last year until their flight home. They served us warm nuts. I ate a cashew and then i look at my mom because my chest and my throat was just all cramping and hurting. You couldnt even say what was wrong . I couldnt even speak. I was terrified. Reporter 10yearold luca was experiencing anaphylaxis. Its a lifethreatening reaction to food. Did you know that he had allergies . No. Reporter but luca was lucky. Two passengers had epipens and a nurse was on board, a life saving combination. At the time they were traveling on American Airlines, the company did not carry auto injectors or epipens. Only epinephrine in a large vial requiring measurement by a medical professional. What do you say to the airlines . We tell them to put epipens on the plane so this doesnt happen again because youll be taking a 10yearolds life if you dont. Reporter American Airlines told us we are grateful that luca is okay. The medical kits on board comply with federal regulations and contain epinephrine, the same medicine contained in an epipen. You never as a doctor want to hear, is there a medical professional on board . Reporter doctor and popular youtuber treated a patient experiencing anaphylaxis during an international flight. We have to act very quickly. I realize they dont have an epipen. Reporter the planes emergency medical kit did have epinephrine, but again, only in a large vial, not premeasured. So if it were an auto injector or an epipen any doctor could use that and know that could save a life immediately . Absolutely, and not even just a doctor, but most lay people with basic instruction could figure it out themselves. Having a vial and figuring out dosages could be fatal. Fatal asking for trouble. Reporter the doctor says he was able to save the young passengers life. Some airlines have exemptions from carrying medications, medications like epinephrine. What if the exemptions would have been in place on this flight . This person would have either lost their life or had a really bad outcome. Reporter while the faa requires commercial planes to stock certain emergency devices and medications, Many Airlines have been granted exemptions from carrying the required drugs when there are supply shortages. Drugs among those exemptions, atropine for cardiac patients, dextrose for diabetic patients and epinephrine. Not to have these medications, we put anybody with a medical emergency in jeopardy and maybe take away their chance of having a physician or other medical professional save their life. Reporter now, the faa did tell gma it is currently considering requiring epipens in Airline Emergency kits and right now, individual airlines can make that decision. We called Six Major Airlines and three, alaska, jetblue and just recently, american, told us they now routinely carry epinephrine auto injectors on board. George, its a good idea, if you know youre going to have an allergic reaction, bring your own medication and ask the Flight Attendant is there a medical kit on board and whats in it . Welcome to our Great Holiday audience here this friday morning and, michael, youre bringing everybody something super special. This family you met through your work with st. Judes. 10yearold jazzy battling a life lie illness and now this christmas jazzy will be home in good health and well talk to them in just a moment but first going to take a look at jazzys journey. Christmas is a meaningful holiday for many families but for this one it hosts special significance. Last year at this time jazzy was having radiation. This year is super special. Jazzy decorated her Christmas Tree all but herself and i could see that it meant a lot to her. My name is jazzy. Im in fifth grade. Jazzy is a funloving, energetic, little girl, just loves to constantly be moving. She loves swimming. Reporter but in 2019 her parents mykel and frank noticed something was wrong. Lost balance. She lost weight. She couldnt eat. Her eyes started crossing and she was just acting just not herself. Reporter doctors couldnt figure out what was wrong. But a trip to the emergency room revealed a parents worst nightmare. Jazzy had a rare brain cancer. It was heartbreaking. And we ran to each other and went outside and got a quick breath of air and just fell into each other. Cant be. Reporter jazzy underwent brain surgery removing 98 of her tumor. The remaining 2 means she will have to have treatment plan. Radiation and then many rounds of chemotherapy. Reporter in desperate need of help they reached out to st. Judes Children Research hospital. He said drop everything. We need you to get here. I can take care of your daughter. Reporter in one moment she was both relieved and nervous. The two important things that resonated with me were when shes done with treatment she will not be jazzy a cancer patient. She will be jazzy the dancer, the singer, the swimmer. This will not define her. And the second thing he did was come over and firmly put his arm around me and hug me and tell me, no more worries, mom. We got your baby. And were going to make her better. Reporter after four rounds of chemo and 30 rounds of radiation, jazzy was starting to feel like herself. Here is my unicorn family. Reporter this past july jazzy was finally well enough to come home. Im just happy to be home with all my cousins and just everybody. Reporter her latest scans show no evidence of brain cancer. We call this the victory dance. She is back to the jazzy that she was before cancer. Love you. Dont mak me start getting emotional already. Reporter the first thing she did was get right back in that pool. I just like to play in the water. I like to do pool tricks in the pool. Welcome to the st. Jude she could see herself for the superhero she really is, st. Jude collaborated with facebook and turned her into a Virtual Reality superhero. Every day at st. Jude oh. Thats me. My statue. Oh, my gosh. What is your message to other families out there . I think my biggest message is have faith, reach out to st. Jude. They are making strides in pediatric cancer and you get ahold of them and they will take you in and take care of you just like they did us and this is the end result. Happy, healthy babies. Yeah. [ applause ] and, frank, this is for both of you but i know youre worried about your daughter but youre also worried about the finances this. Could potentially be extremely expensive so how does it help with st. Jude. Once we got there and realized that everything is taken care of from you dont have copay, no prescription payments, your housing, your food, lodging, everything is taken care of by st. Jude. You dont receive any bill for any treatments or anything that youre doing while youre there and even when we got home any prescriptions she was on they sent the prescriptions so we didnt have copays. [ applause ] they took care of everything. Thats the one thing i love about st. Jude and what they do. Jazzy, with everything you went through how does it feel to be a superhero . Good. [ applause ] so your reallife superhero, your Virtual Reality superhero but we have something for you we want to bring out to make sure you can remember how much of a superhero you are. And last year, you know, we through technology we were able to still share the holiday with our family but not the same as being there and the last thing i want to say although we are so happy to be home for christmas, our families out there that cant be at home and at st. Judes and have to be away, we love you and thinking you and we support you. Merry christmas. Absolutely. Thats right.
