Ethan wise told abc 7 he was concerned about this scenario during a sixhour flight. Im scared of getting on the airplane on saturday. I have been taking care of Covid Patients for the last two weeks and im more scared about getting on the airplane on saturday than walking in the hospital. Reporter ten days before the flight, passengers received an email, saying socialdistancing would be part of the changes during the pandemic. Dr. Weiss shows this message from united, assuring that the middle seat would be blocked to provide more space on board, but the reality was different and the potential of what he feared the most became a reality. If i randomly happen to be seated in an aisle seat and the person in the window seat has covid, im probably more likely to get infected there than the icu. Reporter united did not comment on why social distancing was not implemented on the flight and instead replied in par, weve overhauled our cleaning and safety procedures and implemented a new boarding and deplaning process to promote social distancing. United added that this was a complimentary free flight for medical professionals and everyone on board was asked to wear face coverings, consistent with their new policy.
