Reopening schools can be done safely in parts of the country. Governor newsom has until the end of the month to sign a bill that would make it easier for a former inmates to become bill earlier this week and it means thousands of inmates would volunteer to help the state battle wildfires every year. Many inmates have trouble finding work after their release because of their criminal record, so the bill would let those who trained at state fire camps get their exsp exsponged more quickly. The mans family has identified him as 29yearold. Officials say he was stopped for a vehicle violation while riding a bicycle. He dropped the bike and ran off. Deputies say he fought with them and punched one deputy in the face. They also say deputies spotted a handgun in a pile of clothes he was holding. Its unclear if he was reaching for it, but thats when a deputy opened fire. He was shot multiple times. He didnt deserve to be shot no 20 times. They say his hands were up. That didnt make no sense. Its not uncommon deputies to conduct vehicle stops of bicycles. They have to adhere to the same rule as a vehicle does. Police say they recovered a handgun at the scene. No deputies were hurt. State lawmakers and Governor Newsom beat the night deadline to extend an eviction moratorium. Julian glover live this morning with what all of this means. Julian . Good morning, kumasi. You mentioned all of this happened just before midnight and, yes, it truly came down to the wire last night. The states moratorium on eviction was set to expire on wednesday but now we know those new protections are in place to last through february 2021. Lets walk you through what is inside assembly bill. Protected of evictions until february 1, 2021 for hardships from the start of the pandemic. Moving forward and starting today tenants must pay 25 of rent to avoid eviction and its september 1st. Rent is due again today. The bill also states a tenant cannot be evicted for unpaid rent during this time. Relief for now, but for many renters and even property owners, this just further kicks the can down the road. Im scared that theyre going to evict me and i have a 16yearold daughter and my husband and my husbands mom, we all live here. Most important is that we identify funding for residents to pay their back rent and that leads to rental Housing Providers paying their own obligations so they dont lose their units to foreclosure or to the bank and that would not be good for anyone. All right. So, where do we go from here . Landlords can begin recovering that pastdo rent as the protections expire. In a statement mayor london breed praised this bill along with several others. But some landlords will likely be unsatisfied with this as this does not address foreclosures or mortgage forbearance. Right now jurors are picked from a list of voters and people who have an i. D. Card from the dmv. Supporters of this bill say this excludes many lowincome residents and people of color who are less likely to vote or drive a car. So, as a result, jurors are more likely to come from wealthy white neighborhoods. So, this bill would give everyone who files an income tax return the opportunity to be picked and to serve on a jury. Now on President Trump is moving forward with his visit to kenosha, wisconsin. The city deals with protests following the Police Shooting o Kyle Rittenhouse the teenager accused of shooting and killing two protesters in kenosha. He was trying to get away from them, i guess. Theyll start at the tippy top. Look how high up that is. Theyll work on this all week. They expect it will take them until friday to get this huge tree down. Here is a picture of it during the daytime. The eucalyptus tree is at lions wayside park in pleasanton. The city says its infected with a sulfur fungus and nothing they can do to treat it. Some residents said they want to protest the taking down of this tree. They love having it here. But the city says it is a safety hazard. Were all so sad to see this tree having to be removed, but, unfortunately, because it is decaying with the fungus, we cant save the tree and we dont want falling branches falling on the public. She says they are planning to put a section of the tree in the Community Park so people can still see it. Theyre also trying to figure out whether they can plant a new tree here. This one has been here for about 150 years. Some residents say they felt off guard by the citys announcement about the decision to take down this tree. They wanted to have more input. We had heard that they would possibly be out here protesting this morning. We havent seen any protesters yet.
