Most of us experiencing warm conditions today, mild. But clouds are increasing, maybe a few sprinkles towards son oe y this is not only today but tomorrow when the king tides visit us, just under seven feet, pretty high tide here, localized flooding, down from sea ranch, bo into santa cruz. Today we have a lot of sun, except the north bay, where youll see high clouds move in. Temperatures mild. Tomorrow, the fog and high clouds backing off until late in the day. That keeps us slightly warmer in advance of our next rainmaker on tuesday. Upwards of 3 4 inch is what some of the forecast models are predicting for the coast of the north bay here. Otherwise, were looking at maybe a foot or two of snow. Thats above 6,500 feet. So thats some good news. Into wednesday, not much left, and cloudy skies start our thursday. But well look for partly cloudy skies and more of a zonal flow towards the end of the workweek. This is the projected rainfall so far with a quarter inch in hayward and perhaps in san jose as well. Highs today, 71 in san rafael with 70 in concord, 68 in oakland, 64 downtown. The accuweather sevenday forecast, slightly milder tomorrow. A nice day, level 1 system bringing in the wind and rain. Leftover showers wednesday, drying out for thursday and dry into next weekend, liz. All right, lisa, thank you. One of the most difficult stretches of the covid19 crisis is now providing Scientific Evidence that could help solve a completely Different Health problem. That threat is air pollution. And one of the proposed solutions is electric cars. Abc 7 news anchor dan ashley explains. Reporter its the environmental tradeoff we make every day. The bay areas popular commuter corridors are also air pollution allies. But now a new study is pointing out the power of a clean solution. Weve been thinking about this as a model for the electric car. Reporter professor ron cohen and his team have built our a network of co2 sensors that cann measure Carbon Dioxide and other pollutants on a micro level. They had an historic opportunity as the bay area began to shelter in place. We found an incredible change that occurred, the amount of co2 released in the atmosphere in the bay area was 25 lower in that period than just before the lockdown, six weeks before. Reporter he says the purple peaks represent the daily spikes in co2 levels while the green areas show the drop during the shelter in place. But cohen believes the rubber really meets the road in another set of images. They show what the drop looked like along major bay area freeways like interstate 880. With the lighter concentration of purple mirroring the positive effect that electric vehicles could have on those same corridors. So the thing about electric cars is its especially easy to think about, the emissions from electric cars are at a power plant far away, they have no combustionrelated emissions on the road. Its the same as no cars on the road. Reporter he says the system can zero in on freeways and add adjacent neighborhoods, many of them low income, providing one more argument for the environmental benefit electric cars could provide to the bay area. Dan ashley, abc 7 news. Very interesting. Well see what happens. And professor cohen and his team have begun a similar sensor system in glasgow, scotland. The goal is to have it operational in time for the United NationsClimate Change conference in that city in 2021.
