President ial Campaign Season is upon us, and immigration is a hot topic. This past week, republican candidate Rick Santorum stoked that fire, criticizing ted cruz for his stance on visas for foreign workers. Fact or fiction. Sam brock has details. Things are heating up in the republican primary. Their priorities are profits and power. And the gloves are coming off when it comes to immigration. Rick santorum took a jab within his own party, calling out ted cruz. This is in stark contrast with other republicans, particularly, again, ted cruz, who seeks to increase h1bs five fold. Speez visas are a hot topic, burning up immigration talk. Where does senator cruz line up on this issue . Santorum is right. Cruz does support increasing h1bs by 500 , but that fact needs some fleshing out. Federal law caps the number at 65,000 a year, with some exceptions. But the demand, foreign applications were at 124,000 in 20 phren. Then they almost doubled to 233,000 in 2016. Senator cruz was part of a group of senators trying to get ahead on this issue. He filed an amendment to the much talked about immigration bill two years ago, beefing up h1bs to 325,000 or five times the base federal level. But that deal was a bipartisan effort, meaning cruzs effort didnt cross party lined, but they did squash the deal. It turns out cruz isnt the only gop hopeful who supports an expansion. The socalled gang of eight also included candidates Lindsey Graham and marco rubio. Two names noticeably absent from santorums immigration comments. Im sam brock. Thats reality check. Back to you. Over half a million fires have burned so far. Officials did lift some evacuation noticed allowing some people to get back home. You can see how vast the blazes are. We had so many fires in lake county, i keep very concerned about something coming lots closer to homes in the bay area. Lets check out with rob and see what the weather is going to do. Were seeing the winds pushing most of the smoke from the fire complex in western california and lake county off to the north and east as we drop down closer to 5,000 feet. Notice the wind flow pushing most of the smoke to chico and redding and closer to ground level winds. Winds out of the southwest around the fire there burning just south of clear lake. For now, push aglot of the smoke away from the bay area. We still have these hazy skies, as the marine air and some dust and sea salt broadened by the onshore winds making for hazy skies into oakland. 70 degrees right now. Camera bouncing around a bit in dublin. 82 degrees. Cooler than last weekend when we had strong High Pressure around. 74 degrees in san jose. Tiburon, high clouds there at 75 around parts of the north bay, and into San Francisco right now, 69 degrees with some hazy skies. Winds all onshore right now and we will see low clouds surging back inland tonight. But we did have a few breaks in the clouds along the coast today. Santa cruz climbing up close to 85 degrees today and now high clouds advancing in. The high clouds, part of upper level moisture were going to see off and on throughout the week, but for tomorrow morning, low clouds, we suspect, filling in once again on the coast. Could see drizzle around the peninsula and mostly sunny skies for the afternoon tomorrow. Overall tomorrows weather a lot like we saw on this sunday, with 50s to low 60s to start with patchy low clouds, then as we head to noon, upper 70s to maybe some upper 80s by 3 00 in the afternoon around los gattose and morgan hill. Tomorrow, low 80s downtown san jose, oakland in the mid 70s and low 80s around napa and turning slightly warmer around pleasanton and napa as the temperatures begin to climb to the upper 80s as we start the week. Well see more mid and high level clouds possibly coming in late tuesday into wednesday. So for areas especially to the north of lake county and around the sierra, there could be a slight chance of thundershowers. Well be watching the hills and the Coastal Range south of san jose maybe to see clouds in the midafternoon, but temperatures will be climbing towards wednesday. May see low 90s in the warmest spots in the trivalley, and san jose seeing temperatures approaching the mid 80s. San francisco, low to mid 70s likely as we head to wednesday. Another warmup as we head to friday. Weekend forecast still pretty interesting, but those rain chances now look to be moving a little bit further to the north. A fairly strong system by at least august standards, bringing a lot of rain to the Pacific Northwest, bringing us some clouds. For now, unfortunately, too far to the north to bring us a good chance of rain. Cloudy skies across the north bay and much like we have seen this weekend, the sea breeze picks up and temperatures cooling slightly as we head towards next sunday. Well be watching tuesday afternoon into wednesday and maybe for the north bay next saturday, a chance of seeing a few showers. Stay tuned. Back to you. All right, look forward to that. Only the third time there have been twin births in the u. S. In the wild, its a different story. We know twins are very common. We have seen them in the caves and dens that the wild pandas build. For these pandas to be born when they were born, it happens to be bao baos second birthday. She still managed to take the cake. She seems to be nonplussed by all of this. For zoo officials, the exact opposite sentiment. Two births are rare in captivity, and now theyre starting to get busy. A whole set of protocols for helping out with the double duties of motherhood. What were trying to do is swap the cubs and give one at a time, each have time with mom. While the other one is kept warm in an ink ubarrett.
