Days later, she says, that date ended with an unwanted forceful kiss. Especially heavy mountain snows in the Pacific Northwest and on to northern california. Rainy, windy weather will be exiting the northeast in new thats whats going on around the country. Heres whats happening in your neck of the woods. Well be in with this rain for several hours as it continues to roll on shore and we will see at times a pocket of some heavy rain. Our temperatures today only reaching the upper 50s in San Francisco. And rain ending later on tonight. Tomorrows all dry and it looks really nice. Also on saturday, but then on sunday, well start to see clouds moving in and that will be ahead of the next storm system that will bring us some rain to start out next week. And then that one clears out in time for the busy travel day. Love makes the world go round the reason we are down here in key west, florida. Our final stop on our lend a hand today tour. We are in key west at margaritaville resort here in key west. Of course, as you might imagine, tourism is the number one industry down here in the florida keys. Of course, Hurricane Irma greatly affecting that and peoples lives here. But it was First Responders and neighbors helping neighbors that actually helped make the keys come back. This is a monster storm. It is not weakening very much. We estimate there are about 31,000 people who already evacuated from the keys as of 6 00 p. M. Last night. The diameter of the storm is much bigger, almost twice as wide as the state of florida itself. 25 of the houses initially have been destroyed. 65 have major damage. Basically, every house in the keys was impacted in some way or another. The whole house started shaking. Felt like an earthquake. This is the worst storm that weve ever been through. It was just chaotic. We were out helping people and trying to get debris moved out of the roadway so more First Responders and assets could come . I was thinking about working, helping people, but also at the same time thinking about our house. It looks really bad outside. We had about three boats, two vehicles and a floating dock surrounding our house. As far as the sheriffs office, they put a Team Together that came and moved everything out of our yard. It was a huge job. I was crying when they texted me the picture, that they came and did that. I didnt know that. I went to cudjoe with my parents, in which they were helping people who just suffered there. Cudjoe was hit really hard. This really showed me that im really proud to be their daughter. And to have helped all these people. There were so many First Responders that lost so much and just kept going and helping people. It made us stronger. It made us closer to one another. Neighbors got out of their house and met neighbors that they had never met before prior to the storm. Now you have stronger communities. We want to say a big thank you and lend a hand to all the First Responders who were involved. Amongst those folks, starting off with the Monroe County sheriffs department. The fire and rescue. We have key west fire department. The Key West Police department. Keys energy. Florida keys aqueduct authority. Last but not least, the florida fish and Wildlife Conservation commission. So wed like to talk to a couple of folks. First of all, we have sergeants eric and linda mixon. You met them in our piece. Theyre with the Monroe County sheriffs department. Now, while all of this is going on, you guys are a married couple and out there. How difficult was it . I mean, youre sworn to protect and serve, but you have family and friends who you know are being affected, as with el. Yes, we do. We were nervous. We have a daughter and she had to evacuate herself but everything worked out. We got to Work Together so that helped. We were together through the process of the storm. Has to make a big difference. We have the mayor here. How have the keys been doing so far . The keys are doing much better. Key west is doing better than keys just above us. But we cant thank our First Responders enough. Thank you for being here to recognize them. They did an incredible job. They brought the keys back. Made us capable to open for visitors. We wanted to say thank you and lend a hand to all you guys. I was looking through it and it got me. It is touching. It is touching. It is very tender, touching and compassionate. Its just perfect, you know, for a Childrens Book. Especially, you know, younger children. This starts out from birth and goes into a little older, a little older. Its every race and culture that can relate to it, every country. Its a first book for children to even learn to read. Yeah. The illustrations are so beautifully done. I think it really says the story in such a way that even children at a young age can relate to. So, yeah, were really proud of it. It is so sweet. Also the kind of book that moms like to read because it is a love letter to their babies. It is a love letter to their babies. Also, you know, this also is a community of families. It shows you how, you know, of course, parents have their children or child and then they get older, a little older. It shows how everyone is enjoying their children and teaching their children. Listen, this could be a first book for a child to learn how to read. Its just such a sentimental, you know, very touching and heartwarming book. Do you have memories of elvis reading . Actually, elvis, i was asked that, about elvis singing songs to her. Elvis didnt go around the house singing his songs. He was a bit shy, really. Really . He wouldnt just do it. What he would sing was gospel songs. That was very, very different. This is even to teach not teach but read this to children and then my hope is that theyll play the record for them or theyll identify, you know, with elvis. I have a feeling youre going with tennessee. I know steelers are picked to win but i dont care. Dont worry. Stick with your team. We have two recipes. The first is a beef stew. Dont panic but there are a lot of ingredients. Simple ingredients, things you probably have at home, minus the chuck steak. Buy it whole, cut it up at home. Youll be better off. Get more value out of the money. Talk about the spices when we get there. Youre going to sheer this beef a little bit . You want the pot to be as hot as the hinges of hell, honey. Really, really hot. Im serious. Well add water to it and boil it. We want to remove it, the fat. Itll cook off and you get the scum on the top. We dont want the scum to end up in the pot. How long will it take . About 45 minutes. Once thats done, were going to drain it. We add our meat. No now, we have our broth. Put the tomatoes . Be careful. I dont want to spill on you. One of my favorites from the book, this recipe, i took this for 45 minutes. Well let that, with the seasonings give me some of the seasonings. Parsley, o regulroregano, sa. We can now add the vegetables. If i added it at one time, itll cook down and be a mess. Carrots, celery, green beans, potatoes. Youre the boss. You can do whatever you want as far as the vegetables. This is a tip i love. A lot of people love it watery. Some like it thick. If you like it thick, take a little cream corn. Add that in. It is a good oh, i forgot yall were over there. So good. What do you think . So good. Wonderful. My dad adds a little horseradish to his vegetable beef soup, and thats phenomenal, too. Serve it with a crusty bread. Great game day football food. Happy everybody. What about a big fat dip. Itll make you big and fat. It is fabulous. Caramelized onions. I have butter and oil in here. You do the oil because you dont want the onions oil. Do you need a translator . O irk oil. Sweat this down. Dont do it fast. Low and slow. Take your time with it. These are perfectly caramelized onions for this dip. Could not be nicer. We add that. Then our Room Temperature cream cheese. Low fat . Really important. Come on, mat. You always do this to me. You know it is not low fat. Its football. I like it like this. Add our mayonnaise, sour cream. Then we have our fworcestershir sauce. Exactly. Well mix this up. Makes about two cups, which is all you need. Has to be served with a potato chip. Dont get fancy with fine crackers because it wont work. Hoda has the bag over there. She said, forget it. Give me the bag. So that is mixed all up. Put it in the refrigerator and let the flavors medical f s me little bit. You have a fine dip on your hands. This is a good dip. This is the blue cheese dip. This is the killer.
