A lieutenant tells us the suspect had been robbing lottery tickets from liquor and Convenience Stores in that area. Santa clara arrested assistance from Fairfield Police to help apprehend the man, but he and the other four men in the vehicle sped off in their chevy tahoe. Before ending up here at travis. All five men are in custody here in fairfield. Law enforcement trying to sort out what charges, if any, the other four men might face. Reporter well, the search is on for five suspects, one woman, four men. A home robbery that took place here this morning around 4 00 a. M. The santa clara sheriffs deputies opened the main road just a short while ago, but you can see the driveway leading up to the house is still blocked as the investigation continues. This is the corner of bentener avenue. Multimillion dollar homes in this neighborhood. It all began around 4 00 a. M. Thats when the call came in of a robbery. Weve had calls out the to the schiffs department all morning. They have not responded. Theyve released very few details as to what led to this robbery. Sheriffs deputies went doortodoor and patrol cars drove up and down the street. Only people who lived in the area were allowed through the blockade. One man says he was not aware of any problems his neighbor was having. He didnt hear of anything unusual this morning. He only learned of the incident after the police sirens. We have a good security system. People are very careful and also the sheriff makes the rounds. So its very safe. I havent had any problem. Reporter now its still early in the investigation. Investigators say they dont know if this house was targeted and they dont know how many people were hope. There are reports that one person may have been injured. The second vote to correct a problem in the first bill means the tax cuts are now headed to the president s desk where scott mcgrew, hes going to sign it. Thats right. Not today. Its going to add 1. 5 trillion to the deficit over the next ten years according to the joint committee on taxation. Republicans hope it will spark the economy to get even stronger. And we think about the person responsible still being out there after a year. We would have thought and we would have hoped that their conscience would have gotten the better of them by now and they would have come forward and taken ownership of what they did and taken responsibility. So far that hasnt happened. The problem in this case is that there is only one witness. The reason were here today is for the anniversary, and hopefully this will provoke someone to come forward. New details now on a suspected peninsula porch pirate. Mountain view police say theyre trying to find this woman, trisha donnelley. Police say they think she is behind a string of package threats in near the 101 and wisdomman road. They say donnelley lives in san jose and has been spotted in a maroon sedan. Some identifying features they told pups she may have recently shaved her head. She has a tattoo across her chest, which you can kind of see over her shirt and she may be missing some front teeth. An overnight investigation into a string of carjackings and robberies in san jose. Late last night, Police Brought the entire robbery unit out and they took somebody into custody. You can see them take that suspect in. The crimes actually happened last week. The officers, though, served a search warrant to recover stolen property and weapons used in the crimes and police say they have seen a dramatic rise in carjackings and robberies. We have one person that is under arrest who has a warrant as a escapee from juvenile ranch. Its unknown if hes involved in the robberies or the carjackings that were investigating, but he will be arrested on the warrant. San jose police say they are still in the early stages of this investigation. In the north bay, authorities are investigating a Police Shooting that sent one man to the hospital. It happened around 8 00 last night on san clementi drive and corte madera east of highway 101. The Central Marin Police Authorities Say the officers were called for a missing atrisk man who was making suicidal threats. Shortly after the officers arrived, the man returned home. Police say he was armed and making gestures towards his waistband. The man shot did not suffer lifethreatening injuries. New this morning, a fire in the north bay homeless encampment. At one point, our crew says that fire extended into the trees. The fire broke out about 1 00 a. M. Near campbell. Authorities say that they did not find anyone at the homeless encampment. New allegations of Sexual Misconduct at a prestigious allgirls high school in san jose. It is a story that we broke last month and now two more women are coming forward with claims of School Staff Members acting inappropriately with some students at Presentation High School. One of them is a former student and she talked about frequent sexual advances she said she endured at the hands of a teacher. He would relocate me from my desk to sit with him in the back of the classroom. He would press his legs up against mine and rest his hand on top of my hand. The other woman claims that a staff member sexual assaulted her daughter at the School Several Years ago. Even of the women say they are not suing the school but they are speaking out in hopes of protecting other students. They say they want administrators to report suspected abuse. Presentation high school issued a statement, reading in part, all reports of Sexual Harassment that have come to Presentation High School have been handled properly by the school administration. Some of the other claims made we are hearing for the first time. A private investigator for attorneys representing other alleged victims say they are looking into allegations against eight teachers involving 17 girls. Again, we expect the chain controls to lift a little bit later today. Ski resorts reporting three to four inches at their base, as much as six inches up on the upper storm. Not the feet of snow wed like to see, but certainly a few inches will go a long way to freshen things up for the skiers and snowboarders. Winds coming in from the north behind the cold front and thats going to help to bring in some of that very chilly air. And it stays breezy as we go into tonight as well as tomorrow. So a look at the timeline. Early tomorrow morning, our winds still coming in at 15 to 20 Miles Per Hour. And there may be some higher gusts. Then it slowly starts to calm down tomorrow. After the winds calm down, our temperatures are going to be really cool. Over the next few days in san jose, our low temperatures are going to dip down to 35 degrees and there will be some spots that will get below freezing. We are going to then see it getting a little bit milder as we get closer to christmas and cool off once again. In santa rosa, its also going to be really cold, dipping below freezing as we go into thursday night as well as friday night. And San Francisco, we are going to officially welcome in winter tomorrow at 8 28 a. M. And then our temperatures reaching up to 55 degrees. Cool morning, even into next week. This happened in san jose and police are investigating that shooting. Gunfire erupted in a typically quiet neighborhood not too far from the 280880 interchange. Nbc bay areas loroz plater has more. Reporter multiple shots rang out in this quiet san jose neighborhood near Buena Vista Park just after 7 00 p. M. John flannery was out walking his dog when his neighbor stops him. He said did you hear the bang bang bang . He thought it was fire crackers, but it was i guess bullets. Reporter it was then they spotted the victim, a guy who had been riding his bike was down. Witnesses say he appeared to have been shot and then collapsed. There was a guy laying in the front yard. Reporter not long after, he says an ambulance arrived and put the cyclist on a stretcher and took him to the hospital. Officers went doortodoor interviewing neighbors and searching for clues sop far, police are not releasing any information of what might led up to the shooting. Investigators only have very vague suspect information. But the not knowing is what has neighbors here rattled. Too close to home. I was out walking. We could have got a stray. Ptc is positive train control is its an overlay system that allows the technology to communicate and enforce things such as speed restrictions. At least some of the crew had been doing practice runs for two weeks before the crash. Investigators say the engineer had done the route before. Under amtrak policy, he couldnt operate the train unless he was qualified and familiar with this territory. Whoa this happened in florida yesterday morning and police say the officer responded to a call for a possible overdose victim and somehow that led to this highspeed chase. After the officer confronted the driver, the driver sped off with officer cusack hanging on to the door and the side of the car. You see there as he eventually fell off after he was dragged for about a minute. The officer is expected to be okay and the suspect was eventually arrested a short time later. Thats scary. Well, looking live now at the bay bridge as drivers have packed the roads as early as this morning. Many people headed to work or dropping off their kids. We expect an update on raising money to ease congestion. Transportation leaders will meet to discuss when to put the regional measure 3 on the ballot. Could be as early as june. That plan would hike the toll to cross bay area bridges. Leaders could decide the amount that toll increase would be. The money would fund traffic projects. Maybe youre hitting road today but not headed to the office or school, lucky duck. Aaa says drivers will have to deal with peak holiday congestion today and tomorrow because travellers for the holiday will mix with travellers for the regular commute. Aaa says drivers should see travel times up to three times longer than normal. A record 107 Million People are projected to travel this Holiday Season. So how do you say thank you to a person who saved your life . A napa couple was so sure that they were going to be killed in the atlas fire, they even started calling their children to say goodbye. We still have some snow falling, a beautiful shot, though, and as we look at Olympic Valley and the sierra, most of our ski resorts measured about 4 to 6 inches of snow, including squaw valley. I love the ice that is giving us a frame here on this camera. As we also look at north star, the resorts are all open and we have fresh powder on the ground. Here is a look at the array dark showing the storm system now pushing to the south. We are going to have some Cool Temperatures as well, as we take a live look outside at half moon bay, such a gorgeous view right now. Mt. Hamilton, this is a little bit clearer, but we do see some of those clouds still over some of the hills. But sunol is all clear right now, 51 degrees. So sour temperatures in the low 50s and it feels much colder. Then as we look at our High Temperatures, its not going to rise much more from where we are now. Those winds coming in behind that front will make it feel even cooler, so if youre going out jogging this evening, make sure you wear an extra layer or two, even though weve had some very Cool Temperatures during the overnight hours to get it during the middle of the day makes it feel even cooler. Our winds will continue to rush in from the north behind that front at about 20 to possibly 25 Miles Per Hour. With some higher gusts. But many of the inland areas will see the wind speeds at about 20 Miles Per Hour or below and it does stay breezy even into tomorrow afternoon. Thats when well finally start to see these winds calming down. As we look at the rest of the forecast, we will have a few days some of dry weather as we get closer to christmas, well have another storm system approaching and this and on monday afternoon. We will have another chance of rain moving in that at this point looks pretty weak, but it is good to see the storm systems starting to roll through. Going through the next several days, we do begin winter officially tomorrow, even though weve had some cool weather, its going to stay in the mid50s for our highs. Once again, several more days with a chance to dry out. On christmas day, an afternoon chance of rain that may linger into early tuesday. Inland areas, we are going to have some cool mortgages. Possibility of freezing temperatures for the inland valleys while most of us will stay just above freezing but well have to bundle up over the next few days. According to the National Retail federation, americans are expected to spend nearly 28 billion on gift cards this year alone. But what if your cards was compromised and the money on it completely wiped before you ever went shopping . Cyber security expert jim stickily has come to us with an urgent alert, telling us hes cracked the code with nordstrom gift cards. He can hack in and drain all the money. I have ten nordstrom gift cards here. Youre saying you can hack these. Not only can i hack those, but also the cards for sale right now, i can hack those, when they become activated drain the funds from them as well. How . I can write Software Designed to go after a website and pull the card pins one at a time from cards. Its flying through pin numbers. One at a time and catches them all. He says hes discovered a few preps with nordstrom gift cards, including shorter pin numbers than most numbers and no protection against bots. Were not showing you how he does it, but within minutes the money on that card could be gone. Youre one of the good guys. You brought it to our attention. If youre a criminal, what could you do with this information . I could start making purchases at nordstrom or sites out there that will buy the cards from you. I could sell the cards to third parties and make money right off the bat. Did you try this on other retailers, too . I have. Nordstrom had a flaw in their design that allowed this to work where the others generally dont. He said thieves can take it even further, snapping simple photos on gift cards on racks and once activated, draining those cards, too. This is my nordstrom gift card here. We put 50 bucks on it. This is the packaging it came in. We havent touched it all all. Just like this, you can hack it . The last 16 digits, thats the card number and its a threedigit pin. All i have to do is crack the dailydigit pin. To prove he can do it, he gets to work on my card. Thats easy. There it is. Reporter telling us hes drained the funds but did it really work . I take the gift card to nordstrom, checking to see if hes actually drained. It i want to see how much is on that gift card. Zero on this. Nothing, nada. Thank you very much. Happy holidays. This is jeff rossen calling from nbc news, a security expert called and us and said what he found a flaw in the nordstrom system with gift cards, hes able to hack into the system and drain all the gift cards down. He wants to show you how he did this so you guys can fix the problem. Reporter nordstrom declined to meet with us in person so we connected the retailer with the security expert by phone. He walked them through the problem and how to fix the flaw. Nordstrom telling nbc news our customers are always our top priority. If we learned they were negatively impacted by an issue with our gift card systems, wed work quickly to take care of them, adding we have a number of gift card security controls in place and a team of experts that regularly test, review and enhance those controls. Securing gift cards to protect your money this Holiday Season. Thats one of my biggest fears. It happens. Jeff rossen reporting there. Since jeff and his team connected nordstrom with the expert in that piece, they now have fixed the problem. Experts say you shouldnt buy the gift cards from the public reaction you see at many of the drugstores and supermarkets. Buy them at the stores where they keep them behind the counter and secure. Who does that . Some places do. But, oh well. That way they cant copy down those numbers. Better yet, buy the gift cards online. I just bought one at the post office. I thought i was safe. Maybe not. Better check. If you have a scarred thats been drained, consumers can call the number on the back of the card rather than searching online.
