This is a pipe that broke 24 inches across, two feet across. This is a lot of water. All of the parking lot was underwater, water inside the st. Matthews catholic church, and there on the left hand side of the screen is the school gym, where the water flowed into the gym parking lot, there as well, and its also flowing out the other side of the gym into homes on the boulevard on the other side. The family says they live on the other side, little alivia goes to this school, though, not today, and probably not tomorrow. Apparently the gym is swamped was also brand spanking new. The floor was really nice, and it was it was really clean, and it smelled good in there. Reporter what do you think it smells like today . Yucky. Looks significant. We dont know the cause at this point. Were just beginning to excavate down to make the repair. Reporter now, again, as you said, we dont know what the cause of the break was, but we know that this is not the kind of pipe that delivers water to individual homes and businesses and fire hydrants, so theres no impact of service because they can get the water there using other pipelines. We also know that there is not an order to boil water at this point. Now, until cal water digs down to the line, they cant say how long repairs are going to take. Now, the st. Matthews Catholic School spilled off campus into the roadway. Two lanes are closed right now to traffic at notre dame where we are this morning. Its going to be this way for a while. Youll want to reroute if you can. We dont know that we can get out. Its a parking lot of emergency vehicles out here. We are talking with the folks who live on the boulevard which is flooded. The city councilman arrived five minutes ago telling me they were just looking at this intersection as a problem area, and they were going to set up flashing lights here, but now they are looking into funding for that. That was earlier this week even before this accident. Down the street, you see the bus, the red cars still there on ashby avenue, and investigators have been here all morning long trying to determine the cause of this deadly crash. I was in the house. I heard boom. I heard bang. I heard crash. I heard the third hit that hit the house next door. Reporter Dale Reynolds lived in this house for fourth years. The crash took out his truck and front porch. He got out okay. Hes seen accidents on this corner before. In the apartment next door, and they theres been a lot of accidents here. Reporter saying theres many things causing those accidents. Somebody trying to speed across the street, people dont stop, you know, like a freeway. Reporter police and ac transit are looking into neighbors complaints about speeding in the area. Traffic unite keeps a list of priority intersections tracked based on collision numbers. I dont have any information suggesting theres been any kind of repeated speeding along this part of ashby, but, of course, well look into everything. Reporter officers set up screens to block the deadly accident from public view. The female driver of the accident died at the scene. This is awful. Reporter the bus had a camera on it so investigators are looking into the video to help determine the cause. Reporting live, nbc bay area news. Thank you very much. Weve told you about this lawyer before. We are back on the case and why the state is now taking action. Reporter attorney bradshaw is in a legal battle of his own that could leave him from practicing law in california. The state bar which investigates attorney misconduct is accusing bradshaw of engaging in a scheme to defraud one of his elderly clients out of more than 157,000. Worried about potentially facing criminal charges . No. Not at all. I have not done anything wrong. Reporter if the state bar are making this up . I cant speak to the understanding of the law. They made an allegation. Its false. My clients money was used by and large for 24hour home care. Reporter this quiet San Francisco neighborhood is where his client lived for more than four decades. She hired bradshaw to create a trust account, and in an unusual move, she listed the attorney as one of the possible people to manage her money and home should anything happen to her. When she fell and injured herself four years ago, the court put her attorney in charge of her estate, but hes now accused of funneling money from the trust into a company he helped create, Bay Construction. Bradshaw hired bay to do work on the elderly womans home while she was suffering from dementia. Youre an experienced attorney. That doesnt seem like a conflict of interest to you . No, i dont. All the work was done to maintain the safety of the home. Reporter bradshaw says hes never had any financial interest in Bay Construction. You dont have a Construction Company thats in your name . No. Certainly not. Im a lawyer. Reporter bradshaw signed documents filed with the state to form Bay Construction. He says he was simply acting as an attorney for the person who actually owns Bay Construction. A handyman named Juan Gonzalez who did repair work in bradshaws home. He needed a leg up, i loaned him 1,000 to help him get the contractors license. Reporter bradshaw let the former handyman register that Construction Company to the same highrise address as bradshaws law firm. I offered office space and allowed my receptionist to answer the phone for Bay Construction, and the contractor would have meetings here in the Conference Room if it was not being used, and his mail showed up here, and that was it. Bay construction is and has always been 100 owned by Juan Gonzalez. Reporter in court, he testified he owned 49 of the company, while bradshaw owned the other 51 . Bradshaws own son, colin, also worked for the business, and Court Documents show brad shaw, his wife, son, and receptionist had Company Credit cards in their names for Bay Construction. Bradshaw says the arrangement helped the Construction Company get a 5 discount at Lowes Hardware saying it was a favor to help the former handyman succeed in his business. Does that make sense to you . No, it doesnt. Reporter jeremiah is an attorney representing one of the relatives, and at 90 years old, he passed away last june. Her relatives stands to inherit money from the trust, money bradshaw is accused of using to pay for his own personal expenses. Its unusual to have a credit card in the name of a Construction Company that you have no interest in. It just doesnt appear correct. Theres something missing. Reporter his client is now suing to have bradshaw stripped of all responsibility involving the trust. The judge in that case has yet to weigh in on whether there was any wrong doing, but last month, he did remove bradshaw as a trustee, at least for now, while the state bar pursues their own separate investigation into bradshaw and possible fraud. Normally the state bar is this entity that is out there, but doesnt get involved. The fact they filed charges against an attorney, i think, is telling. Reporter the state bar also went after bradshaw about ten years ago, accusing him of fraud in alleging he charged grossly exaggerated fees, but how that case ended is unclear because it was settled behind closed doors. Bradshaw was allowed to keep practicing with no Public Record of discipline, but now the state bar issued a consumer alert for bradshaw, warning that hes accused of a major misappropriation of client funds. Bradshaw says hes never collected money from that trust. Most people dont see it, but i have a heart of gold, and did my best to care for her. She was special to us. We were the only ones at her funeral, my wife and children. Reporter the children said they were never notified of a funeral, and if he planned one, he did not tell them about it. We asked about details on the funeral and where she is buried. Bradshaw would not say. We obtained her death certificate. Shes in a cemetery in lafayette. The staff says no one purchased a tombstone for her, so bradshaws former client now rests here, in an unmarked grave. The state bar case against bradshaw is expected to wrap up next week, and since this is not a criminal trial, the worst discipline is losing his license to practice law, but weve learned bradshaw, his former handyman, and Bay Construction may now all be the subject of a criminal investigation by the contractor state license board. That agency would neither confirm nor deny its involvement. Our Investigative Unit wants your help. If you have a story, call them at 888996tips or nbcbayarea. Com weinvestigate. I wanted to talk to you about the Drought Monitor because it was updated this morning, and now has included parts of the bay area for abnormally dry conditions, and that was not the case just last week. Weve also seen an increase in the severe drought area for Southern California around l. A. , so for the bay area, ab normally dry in the Santa Cruz Mountains and parts of the north bay, and we know its been that way. We have not had any rain for quite a while. We have not got normal amounts, and hopefully as we go through the end of the month, well get good storms in here, but were now feeling some very warm temperatures. Were headed up to 75 degrees in morgan hill, 74 in los gatos and 78 in danville and concord, 70 in daly city and half moon bay, and 71 degrees in the mission district. For the north bay, 74 degrees today in sonoma. We still have this stubborn area of High Pressure, not budging or going anywhere allowing no storms to move in. As we head into next week, well start to see showers making it into parts of the southwest, and well have to see if that makes it into the bay area, but in the meantime, we are enjoying time outdoors, warm temperatures, and santa cruz will be 72 degrees this weekend and upper 60s by the end of the weekend. So, yes, cooler temperatures will move in, not in the way of any really cool morning hours, Cool Temperatures in the morning hours, but the afternoons, youll feel it, and for the inland areas, expect highs to reach into the upper 60s and low 70s, and that continues into the start of next week.
