For the nearing storm which is going to impact not just the sunday, but the work week, and so we will have a cultural look at what to expect and the daytime highs throughout is coming up. And i like those temperatures. Nice and sunny. And we begin here with the major earthquake that rocked Southern California last night, and the second in as many days, and this is even bigger a. Magnitude 7. 0. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. It was a 7. 1 and now moments of panic and fear for community is still shaking from thursdays quake and we have seen some of the damage and the cracked walls that you can see there and the broken glass on the ground and the earthquake is felt across the state and the epicenter is 11 miles from ridgecrest and very close from the epicenter thursday which is a 6. 4. And now you may have felt the shaking right here as well. Nbc bay area Sergio Quintana was there on ridgecrest when the shaking started. One of the biggest concerns in this continuation of the earthquakes is the sustained damage to buildings. And now we were here earlier in the day, and we did not see this at the dollar tree store, and this crack formed in the big earthquake that we just experienced along with the crack in the wall, let me show you, a broken window that happened as the quaking was happening. That ladder there by the way is from the contractors that are right now assessing the damage inside. I wanted to show you that they are actually going through the store, and you can see how there is so much debris inside. We did see some of that, but this smashed down wall, that is new. That plaster there on the side. That is the new damage from just tonight. This was a sustained quake that we were actually right in the middle of, and we were trying to shoot some video for some of our reports, and let me show you some of the damage. This continues through all of the way around the corner, and now, going back again to some of the damage that we experience and some of the quaking that we experienc experienced, and we talked to several people out where we were shooting video. This is how they described what happened. It was a routine . Yes, right up there in the hills when the first small one hit, and we thought, well, we need to get closer to the car, so we turned around to come back. And the big one hit and knocked my little one to the ground. This is video that we shot of the quaking. You can see that some of the vehicles out there with the shaking pretty violently, and a few people from ridgecrest out on the state road where some of the big cracks formed. They were looking at some of the cracks on their own, and they were caught in the quake as well. You can also see a lot of dust that got scared up in the desert out there, and it was surreal to be in the middle of this desert with so Much Movement going on. I talked with one man who evacuated his family from the town of trona. I was trying to move, and i couldnt move, because i was trying to back up the truck. But i could not succeed, because the ground was moving and shaking, and 7. 1. And the state road going from ridgecrest to trona was shutdown by the california highway patrol, because there is lots of damage along the way, and also a few different fires here in ridgecrest. They have come out now and show you again, that there is a whole lot of Damage Assessment right now going on in ridgecrest, and in the surrounding area there is going to be emergency crews and other First Responders that are going to be doing a full assessment for the next several days. In ridgecrest, im Sergio Quintana, today in the bay. Incredible video to this, emerging from ridgecrest, and check out what the quest did to this pool in the backyard. It is like somebody got a bowl and started to shake the water. Get under the table. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. Oh, my god. That was a [ bleep ]. And the panic in this home there, and people were ducking underneath a table to taking shelter there. And you can hear one person in there and she is talking about the door swinging over from all of the shaking in that home. Taking a look at this tweet from lester holt who was evacuated from a theater in santa monica after the earthquake. This is what people felt farther inland in pasadena. And i was getting busy and it started out slowly and went faster and faster, and i started getting dizzy. I stau stop sign moving and the tvs were moving and that is when i got behind the door. It is the kind that it sort of underlates. It is not jerky, but kind of like a wave. It is a rolling kind of the nonstop, and took a while for it to stop. It was really strange. That quake surprised thousands of fans at last nights dodgers game in l. A. , but the people at home saw shaking images from the game, until the announcers cleared it up. For kike hernandez, we have another earthquake. Yes, we have a earthquake going on. It is a pretty good one, too. And even as they felt the shaking, and viewers saw the cameras shaking, the teams just kept on playing there, and many of the fan s saw the alerts on the phone and realized what happened. And they held up the game a few minutes but once they saw no damage, the game continued. This is what the padres tweeted 7. 1 magnitude earthquake. Just roll with it. Firefighters have wrapped up the preliminary watch over l. A. The firefighters surveyed the ground by ground and air after the earthquake hit. And Gavin Newsoms latest tweet last night says that cal oes, the state Operation Center has been activated to the highest level, and the state is now coordinating mutual aid to the First Responders and we checked and no word yet if the First Responders are here in the bay area going out to help. The quake is just 11 miles northeast of ridgecrest. And even closer to the town thursdays 6. 4 quake. The seismologist dr. Lucy jones says it is now considered the main earthquake. Because the 7. 1 is the largest we give it the name main shock. So an hour ago we were calling the 6. 4 the main shock, but it is now an aftershock bigger than itself, and so we change the name. The 6. 4 is a foreshock and the large aftershock is now the main shock. And some people felt the earthquake at sfo, and reported to the control tower, and the duty manager saying when that happened there is a process in place to check the runways for damage. The runways were checked last night after the earthquake and no damage was found, and the duty manager says that the operations were not interrupted and the San FranciscoPolice Officer says he was writing a report at his desk inside of the International Terminal when he felt the building shake. I felt a rolling motion like on a cruise ship, if you will. And then i started to see the blinds on the windows rattling back and forth, and the supply cabinets behind me started to rattle with the supplies inside there, and i thought to myself, are we having an earthquake. That is officer Albie Esparza who thought that it was a local earthquake, and then realized it is related to the larger earthquake 30 miles away. And now, we have important reports on twitter for the latest, and our handle is nbcbayarea. Much more coming up today on the bay, and a family sent to see fireworks, but they were sent running by gunshots at Great America. And the major bottleneck at the sfo ride share pickup has been an issue for weeks. The latest move to try to solve the problem. Taking a live look out in san jose right now and the addition that you can see there in the cathedral basilica of st. Joseph. Beautiful place, and get there if you can. Right now, the Santa Clara Police are looking for the person who started shooting at Great America. We have obtained the video thursday night, and only one shot was fired, but it sent parents and children running. Today, we have more of the terrifying moments. Moments before this Great AmericaFireworks Show rang, a loud bang rang out near the metal detectors as there was a fight between two groups. And bystanders seen running away with their crying children, but one woman said that the bullet slowed down or ricocheted, because it only left her a bruise. There were people inside of the park and inside of the gates, we did not have any calls for service, and this was a great evening except for this incident. Parents today at the park were surprised to see the video. This does not happen around this area, it is relatively safe. And now, he says that he is going to continue to come back to Great America. We came for the fireworks, but we didnt see it. The police are looking for more cell video like this. And tonight the fireworks were the only pop around the area, and they are hoping that the bullets stay out from now on. I think it is unsafe, because there is a lot of the 2yearolds going for the first time and what if they were just walking by and the bullet hit them. Ian cole, nbc bay area news. 7 13 for you right now, and much more ahead on today in the bay. His rage caught on camera and now he is sitting in jail. He was mad the whole time and i dont know if he felt that maybe i cut him off, but my son was freaking out, and he said that his head hurt and maybe hit the front seat. And the Police Arrested a 32yearold man from san jose who is now facing several charges. Taking a live look outside at sfo this morning. And well, tomorrow, expect it to be one of the busiest days to fly this year, but it is going to drive air traffic in and around sfo to have a lot of folks feeling anxious, and yesterday the airport opened up a new lot where the uber and the lyft drivers can wait for passengers without the congestion in millbrae and burlingame. This is on san bruno exit off of 101. And this is how it works. The ride share drivers wait there or in the other two staging lots to the south instead of circling the terminal. And then when a passenger calls for a ride, the driver can meet them, and at the new pickup area on the rooftop of the hourly parking garage which opened a month ago replacing the curbside pickup, and the management seems it is a good fix. They start in one of the staging lots and wait for the customer to request them, and when they get the request, that is when they enter into the new pickup areat ta center of the garage on the fifth floor, and they think it is wonderful, and the share riding is easier to work the drivers so we dont have to break the law or get a stupid ticket. The ride share policy does not affect curb side drop offs and only pickups and not international travelers. Well, if you dont bring a reusable bag when shopping in San Francisco, it could cost you more money. The citys Business Commission wants to raise the cost of all checkout bags from 10 to 25 cents each. Those embers could have come across and done a lot of damage. Reporter this is one ofh many fires in the area. They say that fireworks sparked all but one of the 37 fires. As we were doing this interview, another fire started. This time in martinez, also possibly caused by fireworks. We dont know the exact source, but we know that it was something hot. To us that means the possibility, and the likely possibility of fireworks. Crews called in air tankers and helicopters to help knock it down. The fire burned 24 acres and dangerously close to highway 4 and her home. And back at ms. Griers home, she is worried about fireworks going throughout the 5th and the 6th. We will be on pins and needles throughout the weekend, because we dont know. And this fire went up like matchsticks and destroyed aer ka and dangerously close near one home. At one point the fire was burning so badly and fast that the neighbors jumped on the roof to hose down the fire, and try to protect themselves and the homes and neighbors believe it all started with the illegal fireworks. They say that the homemade fires are erratic and urging the people to leave the fireworks to the professionals. Keeping things safe from the air, and the helicopters are inspecting more than 25,000 miles of power lines in contra costa and alameda counties.
