Today were going to look at our coasts and begin with florida. This is an area that is already seeing impacts right now. As we start off and look at the east coast. The big issue in florida is the Sea Level Rise. And this has already been measured with some real things happening right now. During a regular high tide, some of the flooding that does occur rivals a category one hurricane. Thats every single day. We could see another half foot rise in the next 15 years, and of course this means a higher danger from Hurricane Storm surges if a hurricane were to hit florida. Now weve been highlighting a lot of these spots all around the globe, but whats happening right here in the bay area. I wanted to show you a list of some of the things that have been measurable base the on 30plus years of climate data. You can see the temperature has increased 1. 7 degrees since 1950. Coastal fog overall less frequent. A bay level sea rise of 8 inches in 100 years. 2012, lowest moisture levels in 100 years. Right there where that Sea Level Rise, i key in on that, because theres data showing what it could look like from a uc berkley study if we had 16 inches water rise in 100 years from now. We spoke with one wildlife biologist and says sometimes what happens with Mountain Lions is older ones push out the younger ones and they end up where you wouldnt expect them. There was a recent sighting in San Francisco. And they believe more needs to be done to protect them. It happens a lot more than youd think. Reporter brad nichols is a wildlife biologist with the bay area puma project. He is in san rafael where a Mountain Lion was caught by security cameras last month. Its so fragmented all along the coastal areas. Theyre kind of stuck. Reporter last week a Mountain Lion was hit and killed on 280 in san mateo county. He says it happens more often than people believe. . You. Youve got a combination of no wildlife crossings, plus fencing thats not keeping wildlife out. They can wander out onto the road anytime. Reporter the isolation can lead to inbreeding. One solution, wildlife crossings at highways. Some of the things we use to address these are directional fencing to keep animals away from freeways and over and underpasses. Reporter future plans could include the south bay and southern california. Cal trans says near highway 12 they expanded a culvert for crossing and its safer for drivers. Theyre usually trying to avoid people. Reporter now there were recent sightings in Golden Gate Park and lake merced and signs went up advising people what they should know and what they should do, but there havent been any sightings sense.
