I guess the answer that is like, it was it was atypical for us cause we decided, well, its early in our week and we have Something Else planned but, occasionally, there are weeks when if we have something very timeless, maybe dry that weve been working on like Something Like weve done like mobile Home Financing in the past. I was home recently at my parents house digging through the garage and i found the first video game system i ever owned i dont know if you guys remember the jorbus. The jorbus was made by now out of Business Department store montgomery ward. Just a fantastic system and ever since i dug it up, im playing it nonstop a lot of jorbus games were ahead of their time. Lets take a look at some of them now in a segment we called old video games. [ cheers and applause seth oh, boy oh, the hours i spent with this one right here the old Tonya Harding skating. [ cheers ] it was such a fun in this game, you were a world class figure skater whos competing against Tonya Harding and the goal of the game was to complete a figure skating routine while avoiding Tonya Hardings goons who would come after you [ laughter ] and you sort of hit a to jump over em [ applause ] and then you hit b you know, to get low and then do a little duck then the final boss was of course Tonya Harding herself and she would sort of chase you. [ laughter ] and youd have to just tap the buttons to go as fast as you could and then eventually, she would trip on her shoelaces right there. [ video game sound effects ] ooh seth there you go. And that that was it. Thats how you won it was fun it was fun [ applause ] the next game was inspired by the chernobyl disaster of 1986 [ laughter ] it was chernobyl the game. And what it did was it took place after the catastrophe. You played as a soviet official and you goal was to eat up all the paper work that would showed evidence of governmental wrongdoing [ audience oohs [ light laughter ] so lets just take a look at the gameplay so, there you are. Youre this government head and youre eating up the paper work and those are those are reporters and they are trying to get a hold of you. [ applause ] and then you would just eat this radioactive pill [ video game sound effects ] and then there you go [ laughter ] you eat them all up and then you would win and this would happened victory [ laughter and applause seth so much fun jorbus by far, my favorite game growing up was fitted sheet the game. [ laughter ] in fitted sheet the game, you played as a single man struggling to put a fitted sheet on a bed [ laughter ] so much fun. [ laughter ] and when karen sees you, you have to sneak out without getting caught henry seth so she sees you and then shes come over and you go to run around and maybe you get lucky and theres like a dessert tray that you hide behind. [ laughter ] oh, now she is coming the other way. Henry seth you hide behind a tree or a little bush, whatever that it is. And then, oh, theres some cocaine and that would be helpful because you would get the cocaine and then youd get out of there [ cheers and applause and it was awesome because it was really cool. The game came with this bag of fake cocaine and it was fun for kids cause it was made with pixie sticks and a little bit of cocaine. [ laughter and applause the last one, a jorbus classic. Bobby knight basketball. In this game, you play as legendary indiana hoosiers basketball coach bobby knight who had famously had a bad temper there was no actual basketball in this game [ audience aws ] instead, you would just throw chairs at an opposing team in an effort to get them off the court and then after you vanquish the team, of course, the cops would show up. Oh, no, sorry. [ laughter ] the referees would show up obviously, ive tipped of what is happening next. Eat chair [ laughter ] seth which is the Police Officers there you go rules of threes. Now we get rid of those guys take that chair seth and then the really fun thing is in a tiein with the stories of the day Saddam Hussein was the last boss [ laughter ] and that would be a case where you would root for bobby knight. I did seth i have to ask about the film, but lets just get to the fact that in the clip, its very obvious to all of us, thats mick jagger. [ laughter ] it is seth what was your mick jagger experience like . I mean, it was pretty wild. Seth yeah. I mean, i feel like mick theres only a few select humans who really have that legend sort of status. Seth yes like, i mean, and he is really one of them hes like the Upper Echelon of, like, icons. So you just dont ever think youre really going to meet that person in the flesh. Seth sure. Sure. But i knew i was going to have to and i knew it was going to be really awkward like, whatever happened i knew it was just going to be seth it was unavoidable. Unavoidable seth you were going to bl blow it. You know i was gonna and im a blusher. Seth yeah. Like, i knew i was going to be beet red. And it was going to be i was just going to be, like, a puddle so i met him like, halfway through the shoot. And and we all knew he was coming i mean, the whole the whole cast and crew of this movie i mean, not the whole cast the who crew were italian. We were shooting it in italy and so its, like, italian sort of whispers all day. Like, mick jagger, mick jagger. [ light laughter ] i was like, okay, mick jagger is coming today. Hes coming today. And then it was lunch. I remember i was getting some touchups done and i was looking at my hair dresser didnt speak english very well. I love you, samantha [ laughter ] seth there you go. There you go. The only thing i can say in italian. And we hear this voice next door and i, like, at the same time, we look at each other in the reflection of the glass. And were like, mick jagger [ laughter ] and i was like, okay, its mick jagger. So then im like, i got to do it i got to break the ice. So i kind of scootch around the corner and he is standing there and i was like, if i im going to do it first so it doesnt sneak up on me and i, like, really embarrass myself. So i walk into this room and mick, like, swivels around ill never forget it because he was sort of, like he was like, hopping on one foot to the other. And he was eating a chocolate chip cookie. [ light laughter ] and there was just this, like, the strangeness of the imagery, you know [ laughter ] and then and he was like, hi, im mick. And i was like, i know. [ laughter ] i know youre mick jagger. And that is how i met him, yeah. Seth thats fantastic. And hes just he was amazing to work with seth thats really great and now is it safe to assume you have mick jaggers phone number . Is that you know, i do. Seth thats great. Yeah, yeah. [ cheers and applause seth really good yeah. Seth thats, like, with great power comes great responsibility sort of situation. You have to be right, yeah i feel that. And i actually you know, probably i cant now i cant remember how the exchange like, i dont remember who ask who seth right, sure i like to think, you know, which way that went. Seth yeah. But i probably asked him. Seth i should say ive met him. And i dont have his number. Sure. Seth yeah. Well, some of us are maybe better at it than others, right . Seth sure. [ laughter ] yeah. And so and so i had his number in my phone, which i had if were out and about and i went along my, like, plebeian life. And then i was i remember i remember it really clearly when i remembered that i had mick jaggerss number in my phone. Because my sister was with me in my apartment in london and i was like sweeping the floor, like, mopping and, like taking out the trash or something. Seth these are things that none of mick jaggers friends do i dont i wonder when mick jagger last swept a floor ill ask him but but my sister moved she, like, walks past. And it was like, i dont know, dinnertime or something. Im probably, like, sweating over a stove, or you know, real life and then my sister goes, your phones ringing. And then she goes, does that say mick jagger . [ laughter ] and i was like and i go, hi. Seth as you would. As you would. Seth as you would. Yeah. Seth thats fantastic. [ cheers and applause thank you, guys seth you mentioned everyones italian you shot in lake como. Yeah. Seth a beautiful place do you get to enjoy it at all . Did you have a fun time there . Or you know, i mean, not to give too much away about the film but it has some darkness in it seth mmhm and i tend to i was thinking today i tend to have this habit of taking these films or projects like the night manager that shoot in these incredibly beautiful places. But for all i know when im making the thing i might have as well be on the moon. [ laughter ] like i dont seth you dont take advantage. You know, so i occasionally i would, like, look up from this world that im, like, swamped in and like, mick jagger is, like, eating al fresco and claes, my costar in it, is like, hanging out a balcony looking, like, suave and im like, oh, yeah, were in lake como. Yeah and if somebody said to me, like no, this is terrible, really cause i, like, i visit these places that are, like, these amazing destinations and then if someone is like, hey, do you want to go to lake como for a holiday . Id be like, no. [ laughter ] like, absolutely do not want to go there seth this is you were in guardians. I was seth this was as looks go, this is as fantastic a look as you could possibly have thank you [ cheers and applause seth and i know i know theyre so i know theyre top secret about plot twists and what characters you play in the marvel universe. But is it true that they even it was top secret what color your character was going to be that is correct seth so gold was a secret . Gold was a secret a big secret seth was it a tough secret to keep from people . That you were going to play somebody who is gold [ light laughter ] you would think i would be able to keep that secret seth sure. I had a friend of mine who shall not be named who nick hes very into marvel. And i feel i cant remember the circumstances. I feel like i kept sort of we shot it in atlanta and i feel like i kept sort of flying from l. A. To atlanta and doing camera i mean, this is like you dont wake up like that seth no. I cant imagine this is as long a hair and makeup as youve ever had. Its definitely the longest seth yeah. But in i mean, i learned very quickly you cannot complain because zoe and Dave Bautista are in hair and makeup for double whatever you do seth yes, sure so you just do it and enjoy it and also its worth it because it looks incredible. But, anyway, i tried very hard to keep it secret. And nick kept saying to me i get back and hes like, what color are you . Im like, im not going to tell you. And we would let it go and, like, months passed and i was being so obedient. And i wasnt telling anybody anything and people sort of gave up and then one day i was having lunch with him i remember and we were sat at the table. And i was mid sentence talking about nothing, probably. And he goes, oh, youre gold [ laughter ] and i was like, what . What are you talking about . He goes, youre gold and i was like, how do you know . And he goes, i can see it in your ear [ laughter ] [ applause ] seth dead give away it was dead give away seth the dead give away. Her new best selling book weather is on sale now please welcome to the show jenny offill [ cheers and applause seth how are you good. Seth im always one of my favorite things to talk to writers about is their process, how long it takes them to write a book you take a longer youre on the longer side. Not judging. [ laughter ] i take a while. Sometimes people see the length of the book and they sort of wonder what was i doing all of those years. Seth yeah. But seth cause this is about a this is a this is a 200pager. Its a wonderful book. Its an incredibly fast read and then but fast reads, of course, are not fast writes . This one took me about six or seven years which is kind of fast for me. Seth really . Sometimes people say, oh, did you write a really long book and then cut it down . And the truth is im like a depression era writer. Like save every little bit. And only at the end mix up, like, a whole piece of string. Seth you are you refer to yourself as a good selfeditor, yes . You are you dont need an editor to tell you to cut it down that is your own style no, i think i think i think i refer to myself sort a. Probably to the seth merciless you have no mercy for yourself no mercy for myself but sometimes i mean, often at the beginning of a novel you have all sorts of grandiose ideas about it and i sometimes think, oh, this one is going to be really long [ laughter ] and but it is its, like, at least ten pages longer than department speculation. [ laughter ] so, you know if youre feeling like you want more seth so youre making progress if you want a little more bang for your buck, here it is [ laughter ] seth this is a the narrator lizzie she is someone who is sort of having fears about the end times, yes shes working for an old mentor who runs a has a podcast about Climate Change and she starts fearing about the future because of the environment are these fears that you are having is that what inspired sitting down writing this book well, i certainly fell down a few rabbit holes while i was writing it there is a lot of doomer information on the web and, i mean, for example, i had no idea that chewing gum was so important. Like, theres entire websites about how you have to ha comes. Seth oh, really . Right well, because, i guess the main thing is that your brain thinks if youre chewing gum, things arent that bad. Seth wow thats why they do in in the army and apparently lots of preppers are always like and also apparently it helps you create a gum to your fellow collapsitarian [ laughter ] seth thats really good to know yeah, and you can fish with it, i guess, if you have a paper clip seth oh, wow, look at this i now i feel like im going to be fine yeah yeah. So thats the kind of info i try to bring in. Seth you mention you go down rabbit holes on the internet i think were all used to that but you have a very a game of sorts you play when you go to a library. Yeah, i mean, i call it Library Roulette and its basically just that i go to a library, ideally one that has sort of has not discarded many books over the years. Seth okay, gotcha. So that you can go anywhere and then i just have one rule which is that i cant go to the fiction or poetry section which are my normal wheel houses and then i just walk along and i look at books. And i pull them out. And i flip through them. And it doesnt seem like theres going to be something amazing in like a short history of airconditioning in america. [ light laughter ] but, like, often there is, like, one radiant fact that i want to pull out seth that is wonderful and i may i think ultimately all writers are looking for that one thing that will maybe send them down a bit of work. And thats a very unique way of going about it yeah. Seth you have found that one of the ways to get people to or have the message of sort of Climate Change resonate with people is to remind them of the foaming generation either, you know, your children or just the next generation of humans have you found that has been helpful when you try to warn people about whats coming well, i feel like i was sort for a while. Seth yeah. And a bad person on the playground because especially when i still lived in new york, there would be those conversations that new york parents have that are all about how, like, making your child ready for the future and how incredibly efficient theyre going to be. And theyd say, oh, i think they should learn mandarin. And id be like, oh, archery, archery. [ laughter ] Something Like that. [ laughter ] [ cheers and applause and usually id just get a little id just get a little look, you know seth yeah, yeah, yeah. So seth well, you know what i think with the week and all the news thats happening, archery is maybe a pretty good thing for all of us. I know.
