The senate spent today crafting a stimulus bill that could reach 2 trillion. A vote is on track for monday. Meanwhile, the president is considering using an old law that could compel private companies to make needed goods. We have the act to use in case we need it. But we have so many things being made right now by so many, theyve just stepped up. Also at the white house, Vice President mike pence and his wife got back test results tonight. But with this level of detail, you actually know your destination. Reporter dr. Gordon joyce is the chief of structural biology here. For decades, the Walter Reed Army institute of research has studied Infectious Diseases including hiv aids, ebola, and mers. Scientists now say part of the reason is coronavirus is so deadly is that those sharp objects sticking out of this microscopic protein essentially stab patients lungs. This is look a hook, and thats what it uses to bind to the lung cell. Reporter now the race is on to figure out how to stop them. These differentcolored objects are antibodies, and the goal is to try to get them to block this protein from attaching to the lungs. Thats correct. Reporter whats happening here is one of many efforts both public and private around the globe to find the vaccine. Its a matter of not just public health, but national security. The initial stages of Clinical Trials are already under way in china, europe, and the u. S. The first testing of humans with another experimental vaccine began days ago in washington state. In some ways, is this a new type of arms race . I think probably the best kind of arms race in that were not working in opposition with one another. Were working in collaboration with one another. Reporter but even a fast track vaccine likely wont be ready for 12 to 18 months. Dr. Sheila peele is among those trying to learn more about the virus now to better help physicians diagnose and treat it. This is the most challenging scenario i have faced in my entire career. In order to make it in the bay, Real Estate Agents are getting creative in how they give tours during this shelter at home emergency. In dublin, one agent has been showing houses through the lens of her phones camera and with the help of zoom, the Virtual Tours are giving people hunting for a home a sense of the Properties Available when they cant come in person. Potential buyers say it means so much to see a property through video in real time rather than in glossy photos. Lets take a moment now and check our weather. Rob mayeda is in his house working remotely through this crisis. Rob, we heard about the crowds that flooded the parks and beaches taking advantage of some nice weather today. Kind of a doubleedged sword. What should we expect tomorrow . Well, interestingly enough, actually the weather may discourage being outdoors, especially during the afternoon as were seeing a better chance of some showers and increasingly so a chance we could end the weekend with some thunderstorms. Lets take you outside right now to san jose where youve got a few light showers, some beautiful pictures shared to us even by our own sports director, anthony, showing us some rainbow pictures from around sunset tonight. Right now we have 52 degrees after a high of 61 in san jose. For the morning, scattered showers and look at the chance of isolated thunder. I dont think its going to be around for the morning. But as we head through the middle afternoon hours with the peak heating of the day and as moisture starts to come in out of the south, i think mid afternoon to the early evening well have our best bet for thunder. Generally bay area wide in the low to mid60s. I want to show you the area were expecting the highest risk for thunderstorms picking up towards the afternoon tomorrow. This is all of the east bay, the southern tip of marin county, down the peninsula through San Francisco. Actually higher risk areas, a marginal risk for severe storms right there near the monterey peninsula down the Central Coast. There is a slight chance tomorrow if youre near the Central Coast or monterey, you could see some of those stronger thunderstorms develop during the afternoon. Whats bringing this moisture in is this area of low pressure aiming in on central and southern california. Watch the intensity of the showers as we go through the day. Not a whole lot there. If you need to do anything, from 2 00 to 4 00, thats going to give a Little Energy boost to these showers. It will make for more intense storms locally. Once we pass sunset, we should begin to see the showers start to shut down. But the rain totals have actually been upgraded since our evening forecast, taking into account we could be seeing briefly some heavier showers. After the system clears on out, our next chance for finding some rain will be that colder system coming in from the north on tuesday. Then the rest of the week, once we pass midweek, actually trends drier. Well call it some interesting weather to wrap up the weekend. Scattered showers for the morning. Second half of the day, stay tuned especially for areas around the south bay, mid afternoon into the evening well see a chance of storms developing and then shutting down as we head towards this time tomorrow night. So it would be a day to be extra careful outside. If you encount ter any of those thunderstorms and also a beach hazard Statement Issued for the coast due to some sneaker waves and rip currents. For that reason too, youre advised to stay inside and away from the coast tomorrow. Garvin, back to you. Thank you very much. Its that rainy march that we so desperately needed. Lets go from robs house to anthonys house with a look at whats coming up in sports. Thats right. The raiders are adding a veteran receiver. Whos joining the silver and black and for how long .
