But on two other fronts, the news is not as good. New numbers out from the California Department of Public Health give us a clearer picture of the states nursing homes. More than 250 have been hit by the covid19 crisis. 31 of those facilities are in the bay area, including gateway care and rehab in hayward, which now reports more than 100 cases involving patients and staff. And another new number is prompting a warning from the governor. Overnight the state registered one of its highest daily death tolls yet. 87 lives lost to the virus. For those that think were out of the woods, those that think weve turned the page, those that think they can goef back to the way things used to be, i caution you on the basis of that 87 number. Reporter but in campbell, Governor Newsom pointed to a project that is on track, even exceeding its goal of housing the homeless during the pandemic. Because of a deal struck with motel 6, he says the project Roomkey Initiative now has more than 15,000 hotel and motel rooms statewide to shelter the homeless. Those who have tested positive for covid19, those exposed to the virus, the elderly and those with Chronic Health conditions. Santa clara county leaders are hoping with money from fema, that some of those rooms could become a more permanent solution for housing the homeless. We both have to address this emergency, and then as we grow out of it, be the kind of state that recognizes theres a role for everybody person in our community, that theres a home for every person in our community. We dont want these rooms simply open for a few weeks or a few months. Lets give counties and cities the dollars they need to purchase motels so we can really aggressively address the homelessness crisis that will be here well beyond the time that this pandemic passes. We are all adjusting to this new norm our own Damian Trujillo showing us his at home studio. Hes working on a new episode which returns to nbc bay area and our Spanish Language partners telemundo 48. That is on may 3rd. Hes back in business. Then rob mayeda gave us a look at his athome Weather Center complete with a water table. He had a different setup on the news at 5. He had weather from his backyard. His twin boys didnt come out but he did have some help from riley, his dog. Rob mayeda now all by himself inside again, and hes got a story. Hes got rain, warm weather, whatever you like. Hes got it for you. Were watching those changes, and theyll be pretty rapid over the next seven days. Right now a pretty view looking around San Francisco. You see the beacon there atop the transamerica. With the clear skies, we were watching planet venus as well. Well show you the temperatures. Bit of a sea breeze picked up this evening. 54 degrees currently on the board after a high of about 65 degrees. San jose, almost 70 today. A high of 69 degrees. Currently about 56. As we head towards the morning, were expecting low clouds to fill in once again, which means if youre close to the coastline here, you might see a few showers in the form of some light rain on the upslope facing areas of the santa cruz mountains. I think our better chance of showers is going to come in early on monday. So highs tomorrow generally a little bit cooler. Overall same to what we had today but maybe a degree or two cooler. I think monday will be the coolest day of the week. Temperatures in the mid to upper 60s near san jose and low 60s from San Francisco over to oakland. Cloud cover for the morning, the few areas of drizzle well likely see. Skills. Rnoon maybe a brief look how quickly the clouds fill in as we head towards the evening. That will lead up to the chance of a few scattered showers around mainly south of San Francisco. Then as we head into monday evening, the skies start to clear out. In terms of how much were going to get out of this, it doesnt look like a lot, just enough briefly to wet the ground and very likely most of us wont get any measurable rainfall. The higher odds will be for areas around the south bay and santa cruz mountains. Once that clears, get ready for a big warmup. High pressure sending the storms way off to the north. This is a strong ridge that will likely build all the way through next weekend. So what this means is our sevenday forecasts are going to go on a roller coaster ride dipping down a little bit as we check out first palo alto here. You see those temperatures climbing closer to 80 degrees by the end of the week. And look the at numbers here around the north bay. Up near yountville, sonoma, napa, as we head towards next weekend, its possible we could be talking about mid80s. So a cooling trend just briefly to start the week and then those temperatures start to climb on up. That would include San Francisco. Sevenday forecast, look at those numbers, approaching the low 70s as we head toward next weekend where the warmup keeps going. It doesnt stop at the end of the sevenday forecast. If that was a tenday forecast, the temperatures would continue climbing. Inland locations, 80s in reach as early as next friday. Inland valleys of the north bay and trivalley very likely could be looking at some mid80s by next weekend. So if all the off and on shower chances have been making you think spring has been holding off, sevenday forecast almost summerlike in a few spots by next weekend. You may need that water table for next weekday. I hope to see it next weekend. Thanks very much. Anthony flores joining us now for sports.
