A big political speak, we want to check in with a colleague who has seen dozens of conventions. Tom brokaw, tonight he reminds us how significant those moments can be. Reporter covid is affecting everything in america, including the tradition that every four years political enthusiasts with gather at a Big Convention to choose a candidate for president of the united states. Not this year. For decades, conventions were a forum for big historymaking surprises. 1968, chicago. Outside the convention hall, rage against the democratic machine. A war against the wall. This is what you see when you have temperatures up to 105, 106 degrees. At this hour numbers like our daytime summer micro climate. 50s and 60s at the coast. Low 80 inland around concord and livermor. Now that weve had more fires pop up, the air quality moderate. Now a smoke advisory up in the bay area. Around the inland east bay around the trivalley and south bay at times. So air quality a concern. Next round of thundershowers. For the moment things are quiet on the radar. But the reason why the storms had so much energy today is they had tropical moisture capped from the moisture that is peeling off to the south. If you look closely, you can see the lightening strikes offshore. By sunshine, a lot of that moisture will be approaching the coastline. Running pretty mild, 60s and 70s. Part of the reason why it felt more like miami outside this morning. Another morning like that tomorrow. And notice how the radar returns and the future cast starts to pick up around San Francisco and the north bay. Then by 2 00 in the afternoon, we might see one more wave of showers pass through. So this is interesting. We have the red flag warning for now ending at 11 00 in the morning. But if this happens to develop for the north bay, we may see that extended for the afternoon. Looks like at least for now, the lightening element starts to go away. With those clearing skies and drier air tomorrow, that also sets the stage for much hotter temperatures and a few hotter areas around the inner bay and south bay. Tomorrow downtown san jose getting close to 100 degrees. 107 and maybe getting close tore 110 degrees. We will have to watch that tomorrow. The first time we did it, the reaction from people on the street was really incredible. Reporter ashley and andrew soon understood they werent just playing for people who missed live music. They were playing for people who missed, well, people. It is a real privilege and it is a real honor to get to kind of step into peoples lives for 25 minutes and have an exchange with a stranger.
