President trumps former adviser, steve bannon, was indicted by federal prosecutors today for allegedly defrauding donors to an Online Fundraising campaign called we build the wall. And bannon was ready for the arrest because hes been taking mug shots for years. Starting to regret my summer steve bannon haircut thats right. Seth speaking of psychos final summer segue seth yet another of the president s close confidantes, his former Campaign Manager and chief strategist, was arrested today for a wild scam that a closer look. Seth i dont need to tell you guys that everythings bad and good news is very rare, but when it does come along, why not gorge ourselves on it . Even when it comes later in the day, causing you to rip up a finished closer look and start from scratch hey, you guys remember steve bannon, the White Nationalist giant pimple who ran trumps campaign, then worked in his white house and helped engineer such odious policies as the muslim ban and who publicly defended the horrific family separation policy . You know, the dude who had a crazy person white board in his office with policies scrawled on it like suspend immigration from terrorprone regions, implement new extreme vetting techniques, and suspend the Syrian Refugee Program . Im shocked it also didnt include brunch with slender man and kill the batman. You know, steve bannon, the gentleman who currently looks like a guy selling exotic reptiles on the venice beach boardwalk. Steve bannon wasnt born he just burst out of someones chest, kuato style he looks like a where are they now about the face melt skeleton from raiders of the lost ark. Look at this, its like the crypt keeper spent a month in a tanning booth. Well, now that weve piled on, we can move on ooh, wait, i forgot. One more thought you guys, he got arrested news just coming out from the Southern District of new york, saying that steve bannon and three other men have been arrested and indicted and charged in relation to their role in a Nonprofit Organization called we build the wall its a crowdfunding organization that the sdny says has raised about 25 million for wallrelated funding what the indictment here is alleging is that bannon and these others were skimming some of the proceeds from that fundraising for themselves, even though they had suggested publicly that this was a volunteer organization and they were not taking salaries steve bannon, through a Nonprofit Organization under his control nonprofit one, as its referred to here in the document received over 1 million from we build the wall, at least some of which they say bannon used to cover hundreds of thousands of dollars in his own personal expenses. Seth you know what, baby, its been a brutal six months, so im going to mainline some schadenfreude. Line that up on a mirror and give me a dollar bill to snort it with. [ sniffing ] whoo seriously, did prosecutors know this was our last summer show in the Captains Quarters because this is a fantastic parting gift thats right steve bannon was arrested for allegedly skimming a Million Dollars from a scam charity that claimed to be raising money to build the southern border wall this is the perfect encapsulation of the trump era from beginning to end, the wall was a nonstop scam trump scammed his supporters by telling them mexico would pay for it then we ended up paying for it, then this baked potato fabio over here said hed raise money for it, then he scammed everyone again by allegedly skimming money from it. Its a russian nesting doll of fraud. I cant wait until bannon raises money for his Legal Defense fund and we find out he lost it all at the racetrack sir, please, we, uh wed love you to leave. Youre scaring the horses. And as nbcs Pete Williams reported today, its pretty obvious this thing was a scam from the jump. According to the Court Documents, this we build the wall thing came and flamed out very quickly according to the Court Documents, the founder of it, this man, brian kolfage, said that he would not take any of the money, that it was entirely volunteer effort but it said he did take a lot of money, and as for steve bannon, it says he formed a Nonprofit Organization that he controlled. It received about a Million Dollars from this crowdfunding effort, some of which the Justice Department says he used to cover and im quoting here now hundreds of thousands of dollars in bannons personal expenses. The Court Documents basically say that this thing was pretty suspect from almost from the beginning. Seth i mean, of course it was a crowdsourced fundraiser to build a [ bleep ] wall in the middle of the desert the only way it could have been a more obvious scam is if they offered free boner pills with every donation the thing was one rung belowim name a star after you. Oh, yeah, that one up there is, uh thats, uh, dan. That will be 5,000 bucks, cash only. The details of this arrest are just absolutely incredible every little tidbit is better than the last. For example, according to cnn, bannon was arrested on a boat thursday off the eastern coast of connecticut by federal agents along with officials from the United States postal inspection service. He got arrested on a boat by the Postal Service the Postal Service has a navy . Please, tell me its just a mail truck with a giant cannon. Nothing is more fun than imagining a bunch of Postal Service inspectors in their short shorts, boarding a yacht and arresting steve bannon in a dramatic high seas sting operation, swinging down on a rope, carrying letter openers like swords. How has there never been a csi post Office Something tells me david caruso would definitely come back for that looks like this package has been returned to sender. Thats how he held his hands, right . After he put on the glasses . Very delicately, like this like he was Still Holding them seriously, think about how perfect this is. The same Public Agency trump is currently trying to destroy, one of the most cherished Public Institutions in america, arrested his former Campaign Manager for allegedly skimming money from a fundraiser for their scam border wall, two days after we found out trumps previous Campaign Manager colluded with russian intelligence its like the end of the summer tv season, and theyre wrapping up all of the story arcs at once this is really such a perfect encapsulation of trumpism. Its all a giant grift bannon was getting rich and so was trump. The dudes constantly at his own properties lobbyists and foreign officials stay at his hotels to curry favor. His sons are going around the world drumming up new business theyre all just fattening their wallets and doling out cash to their rich buddies while they take Health Insurance and Unemployment Benefits away from millions of americans who are suffering and out of work. Trump was asked this afternoon about bannons arrest, and all he could muster was this i think its a very sad thing for mr. Bannon i think its, uh surprising seth oh, really . Youre surprised trumps probably just surprised bannon had the idea before him jewelry and a boat . How come i dont have a boat my hair would look great flapping in the sea breeze. Trump then seemed to offer some kind words for bannon. I do think its a sad event and again, steve has had a great career at Goldman Sachs. Seth oh, Goldman Sachs well, thats a surprise. Those guys have never done anything untoward. Thats like saying, he was in the mob . Im shocked he had such a great career in sanitation why would he just throw that away . Seriously, at this point, trump has enough criminals around him for a [ bleep ] oceans eleven remake of course, that movie would tend ten minutes after trump gets the Team Together and one of them live streams it on facebook. Okay, thats the topsecret plan lev, i cant help but notice youre making a frontfacing video right now, and it seems like, based on the beeps that are coming out of your phone, youre getting Live Feedback on it. These guys just cycle through one scam after another remember, even before he became president , thanks to not one, but two criminal conspiracies on his behalf, then got impeached for trying to orchestrate another one, he settled a Fraud Lawsuit over trump university, his charity was dissolved for misusing funds he was even sued over a scam Vitamin Company and now hes doing it all over again. President trump says the white house is looking into a new, unproven coronavirus treatment called oleandrin its made from the oleander plant. Its extremely toxic its been used in coronavirus trials involving monkeys, but its been never tested on people oleandrin have you heard about it as a possible therapy for coronavirus . Ive heard of it, yes it is something people are talking about very strongly. Well look at it well look at it were looking at a lot of Different Things seth okay, first of all, any time you ask trump a question about anything, hes going to respond by saying were looking at it. Hell never admit he doesnt know what youre talking about thats why he will never fall for a prank question if you asked trump, sir, does it smell like updog in here, he would say, people are saying it, and were looking at it very strongly were looking at updog were looking at downdog were looking at all of the dog directions you know, we have the best updog in the world a lot of people a lot of people are saying it, youre hearing it more and more under trump. Very little no one was talking about updog obama. [ clearing throat i made myself choke doing a trump impression so, now trump is touting a plant extract to cure coronavirus. Honestly, its only a matter of time before he shows up on the white house lawn with some crystals and a dream catcher the guy will fall for literally any old person scam. Im convinced the only way well get him out of the white house is by selling him a reverse mortgage and waiting for him to default. Damn it i knew youd betray me, magnum not only is oleandrin not a covid cure, its a deadly plant poison so now hes suggested ingesting bleach, hydroxychloroquine, and a deadly plant poison. Even better, combine those three in a bowl with sudafed and a battery acid dunk your bare ass in it and you should be totally cured. Now, it will not surprise you to learn trump did not get this idea from a doctor or one of his actual medical experts who works for him. He got it from yet another one of his many Snake Oil Salesmen he surrounds himself with. Mike lindell is the ceo and founder of my pillow he is also the chair of President Trumps Reelection Campaign in minnesota. He reportedly helped arrange an Oval Office Meeting with the president in july about oleandrin. Lindell tells cnn the president was enthusiastic just for our viewers, you have no medical background. Youre not a scientist a guy called you in april, said he had this product. You are now on the board and going to make money from the sale of this product no. No, no, no the reason he reached out to you is because you have the ear of the president no. So he gets a meeting with the president and you stand to make money from this no, thats your narrative how do you sleep at night anderson, thats your narrative. Why would i do this . Ask yourself, why money why would i ruin my reputation if i didnt believe in this product. You dont have a great reputation you dont have a great reputation oh, really . Seth yeah. The my pillow guy thinks he has a great reputation though when people know you as the my pillow guy, instead of your actual name, you dont have a great reputation youre just one rung above keyboard cat no one knew the cats name, unless it was keyboard cat i dont think it was i mean, this whole thing is like the question mark guy demanding a table at the palm and screaming dont you know who i am so the my pillow guy has the ear of the president and is pushing him to advertise a deadly plant toxin as a cure for coronavirus. This guy i mean, hes just dead set on putting people to sleep, one way or the other. We are living inside a [ bleep ] 3 00 a. M. Infomercial. We cant give you ventilators or Unemployment Benefits, but every american will be getting a shake weight and a slanket. What all this proves is that the country is currently being ruled by a deranged Political Coalition thats incapable of governing and is interested only in enriching himself at the expense of voters. And now theyve left the country in ruins while theyre lining their own pockets. 1,000 americans are dying a day. Tens of millions are out of work and many more suffering, and the president s cronies are cashing in with boats and jewelries and hawking scam plant toxins. Donald trump badly botched the response to a deadly plague that has left 170,000 americans dead and caused the worst economic crash since the Great Depression we have outbreaks in schools, parents dont know what to do about child care veterans arent getting their prescriptions in the mail. Everything from the School System to the post office is broken the post office. We had to come together to save the post office. And the only way out of this mess is a thorough National Rejection of their toxic ideology it wont save anything, but it is a start and if that doesnt work, i guess we can just rely on the Postal Service to take him down. Yeah, i mean, even after, you know, when you after quarantine, hopefully will be over and stuff like that, are you going to ever, like, get back to growing it out are you feeling like a different dude seth i dont know, because were never more than, like, two weeks off, when were actually in the regular studio so, this might be the last hoorah, but its been a good its been a good, fun hoorah enjoyed i wanted it to be your next book cover, almost seth you know, i havent written a book, but i should take some jacket covers now. Well, your first book cover that should be some jacket photo, for sure. Its looking good. Seth how are your kids i know theyre 6 and 2 how have they been hanging in . Theyve been good theyre, you know, theyre my big girls like, old enough to kind of know whats going on, but not old enough to be missing anything, necessarily. Like, she still runs into a couple kids here and there, you know, friends and family and stuff like that, so. Seth your 6yearold, the people she did get to see were highlights for her, because you were a guest judge on americas got talent yeah. Seth and georgias a fan, correct . She is a ginormous fan. I mean, she watches it every day. She knows all the contestants first and last names and their stories, you know what i mean . Its like her first, real dive into something thats hers, you know what i mean and she watches britains got talent. Shes going deep with it seth thats great. How have you enjoyed it . Youre filling in for simon cowell yeah, everyone was really warm and welcoming and the acts were great it was a little hard to watch people get sent home or whatever seth sure, of course gshe got to wave to everybodd say whats up to terry crews, you know and terry crews, oh, hes got some real sharp radar on the color scheme with those suits. Seth yeah, oh, my god, absolutely that was a nice pumpkin spice, silky, mm for fall, getting everybody ready for fall that was a good one. Seth so, i have to ask, the last time you were on the show, you were getting ready for the eddie murphyhosted christmas snl. And i should apologize to my viewers, because every Single Person whos been on the show since then, ive asked about it. But i am so jealous that i didnt get to be there just watching it at home was such a joy what was it like yeah, where were you . Seth what . Where were you . Seth i was just i dont know where i was i guess i should have come, but it was so much fun to watch. You guys were on holiday already. Seth we were probably were on holiday already, yeah on holiday, as i seth keep it as i say, on holiday. Yes, on holiday seth how was the week . So surreal, honestly. Like, youre looking at a guy, especially for me, whos just been bigger than life for my entire existence, you know what i mean and now hes sitting in front of me, hes looking me in my eye, calling me by my name. Were conversating, we go to like, the host dinner and all that its very intimate all of a sudden, with, like, one of your greatest, greatest heroes, you know and it was incredible. Six days of that, you know and he just got more and more comfortable with everybody and more open and cracking jokes and by the time we were doing, like, thursday promos with lizzo, he was just, like, all into it, you know what i mean . Having a great time and laughing and, like, lizzo made him laugh in the promo, and thats the one that they used and it just looked like everybodys energy was towards him in a positive way, wanting him to have a great show it was amazing seth the thing that i realized, as well, from watching that episode is you realize he is joy hes just joy incarnate as a sketch performer and even, you know, in the sketch where he made a bad cake, he still presented it as joyful. Like, he was smiling through everything and i realize, like, you guys you and he have the same dna as performers like, youre very positive, joyous its contagious, the way you perform. And i cant believe im saying this, kenan, but you are now coming into your 18th season on snl. Isnt that crazy . Seth its crazy. Isnt that crazy . Seth well, one reason its crazy is you look the same, so thats one part that makes it crazy. Thank you ive got my beard going. Theres a beard here you can see it well, you know, if anything, i definitely took that from him, you know what im saying just because he was the first person to show me what it was like to just present joy in every performance, basically like, all he ever was going after was a joyous reaction from people hes really entertaining, like, for real, for real and yeah, i always, you know, just migrated towards that kind of thing because it makes me feel good in the process yeah. Does it get i mean, at what point in that 18 years did you start feeling, as the fall was rolling around and again, this is a unique fall were rolling into but you know, i remember having anxiety and anxiety and anxiety, until about season six or seven, when i thought, okay, i think i at least know enough of the ropes here to feel somewhat comfortable. When did that start for you . I mean, i feel like it got comfortable, like, right around when i started to land a sketch that was my own idea like, kind of after scared straight, and i really started being able to build connections with writers for real, as opposed to just, like, a writer giving me something and being able to, like, really build something from scratch and then i was like, oh, now i have a different kind of relationship with the show, you know what i mean, as opposed to, like, castwriter separation or anything like that i felt more intertwined with the entire process finally, you know and then i also just never felt like i was alone in building the show theres so many people like, just watching the stress that you would go through, you know and like, you were one of the most perfect it looked like it would come easy to you type of writers i had ever seen, between like you and tina. It looked like you could just flush out sketches, you, tina and joe. Almost like you almost crap them out, like its nothing but, to also watch how onedge and on your toes you were all week, you know what i mean, just, like, taught me, oh, this is a continuous type of process. So, yeah, i still feel it coming around like, i feel, you know, september creeping up and october creeping up, and its like, yeah, you should be prepared i need to go in there with like a couple pitches, because every time i come in after the summer lately and i pitch to tucker, ive been thinking, like a whole summers worth of ideas. And i pitch him like six and he likes, like, half of one seth what about i know youve go a podcast now as well. It must be nice, because again, we know you so much as, you know, somebody whos a great character performer or impressions. Is it fun to just get to be kenan . Oh, its great its so much i can just relax and be myself and not have any kind of expectation on whats supposed to happen like, comedy, were supposed to be going for some kind of laugh, if were going to be wasting peoples time with noise and words, right, you know what i mean like, were supposed to be, like, setting up and punchlining. But, with the podcast, its like, were just having a conversation and this is the first time i think people can, you know, get a real sense of me outside of an eightminute talk show segment or something. Seth well, thats great, buddy. I really hope you guys figure out some version of the show we all will be looking forward to snl season premiere in any form oh, its going to happen. Seth it comes in. Seth and i imagine its harder for the kids than the adults, but you did something really lovely for your dter, birdie in l. A. , parents have been organizing these, like, driveby birthdays, parades, and things and like, i did not have it together to do that. So, i sent out an email asking for some of her friends and our family to send videos. Like, i thought that was cute. But to be honest with you, the people that she spent the most time with over quarantine are the actors from community and brooklyn ninenine, because seth gotcha. Watched both of those shows pretty much nonstop. So, i happen to, like, know some of those actors. So i texted gillian jacobs, whos like a good friend of mine and like, comes to our house and birdie knows her so, when gillian came up on the video, i think birdie was like, oh, its just my moms friends. And then danny pudi sent a video, and, like, birdie lost her mind then it was like, from brooklyn ninenine. She just the tears and the screaming, it was everything that i truly wanted it to be i mean, it was incredible. Seth we have a video were just going to show a few seconds of it. But as a parent, i mean, this is really you hitting the jackpot i really just want to tip my cap. Okay, can i just tell you that shes a kid whos been so unimpressed with me and my career like, her entire life has just been like, yeah, whatever youre on television. Fine, okay hi, courntey cox. You know, like, so unimpressed and this was one of my i think this is, like, my top parenting moment of the last five years i felt like i finally did it and i also put the call out so wide, thinking that, like, if i only got gillian to send a video, it would be totally nice and fine, but everyone sent videos, including her two favorite youtubers from england who i just, like, dmd on twitter. I mean, it was wild. So, yeah, watch her reaction when it changes. Its crazy [ screaming in excitement birdie happy birthday to you how are you . Whoa what oh seth truly amazing also, incredibly genuine from her. This is not you know, i dont think anybody could pretend to be that excited. Now, you have asked birdie to do a little acting. You asked her to be in a music video you directed yes well seth how was was she hard to convince . Yeah. I mean, shes not particularly shes very, like shes just into what shes into, man, and like, if its not something shes interested in, you can forget it i think thats probably, like, most kids. But some kids are a little bit maybe more polite, or, like, theyll, like you know what i mean or theyll like, even just to show that little clip, i went and asked her, and i said, you know who seth meyers is . And shes like, yeah, i guess. And then i was like i was like, you know hes joshs brother and hes got a latenight show. Can i show that clip . And shes like, yeah, i guess for him. Yeah, thats fine. Like, you know so, anyway, weve been in quarantine we have this singersongwriter lives in our guest house and so, she is by herself i mean, so, shes quarantined with us and her ep came out yesterday or not her ep, but her new song off her upcoming ep came out yesterday, and she was like, my label really wants me to make a video, but what am i going to do . And i was like, well, lucky for you, we have iphones and work in the film industry. So, we came up with this concept for the video, and i really just loved the and her little friend that were staying with us as this protagonists in the video and having Sarah Beth Tomberlin as her name as a singer, sort of following them and it turned out so well. Seth it really did its so much fun to watch and listen to. Thanks yeah, i was really proud of it mark edited it on his final cut pro on his computer. I think the label, like, at first, her record labels like, yeah, i guess the people you live with can make this video. And then they were really excited when it turned out the way that it did, and so were we. So, yeah, check that out, i guess. Seth you also have a podcast. And busy, you had often noted and addressed the fact that you love to talk this seemed like a natural conclusion of your talents as someone who is naturally well, seth, i thought it was going to be a latenight talk show was going to be the natural seth no. But you know what a podcast, great no, i yeah. I had after busy tonight ended, caissie st. Onge, she was my who was my show runner on that show, and i basically, were going in a whole new direction and we had this whole project we were putting together. And we sold the podcast as kind of like a part of that, and we were going to take people on the journey, kind of like startup. I dont know if you ever listened to that podcast seth yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. So, we had recorded hours and hours of stuff, starting in like, december and the podcast was supposed to come out i think the beginning of may and then, obviously, the world changed, and our project was, like, put on hold indefinitely seth sure. And i just was like, well, what do we do now . And i took a minute. I had to, like, figure out how to homeschool my kids and do all that stuff and then we decided to, like, lean into the pivot, and we asked shantira jackson, who was one of my writers and performers on busy tonight to come join us and were talking to people about pivots that theyve taken in their own lives and how they worked out or led them to the place where they needed to be. And honestly, i feel like at this moment right now, we all could benefit from hearing the stories of people who in their darkest hours thought, well, i dont even know how im going to move forward, somehow figured it out, took the pivot, and, like, ended up in a better place. Because were all being asked to do that, you know. And seth yeah, and its really a perfect example, the podcast is your version of that, right . That you had this different podcast, but you ended up with this one so its also its nice, both that you talk to guests about it and that you serve as a perfect example of it.
