Jimmy thats right [ laughter ] americans were like finally, a a glimmer of home in the barren wasteland thats been 2020 [ laughter ] when he heard about it, trump dropped out of the race, and said, im done. Clearly, ive made America Great again. the mcrib. [ laughter ] somehow you know 2020 will wrap up with mcrib being the cure for covid. You know that, right [ laughter ] in other less exciting news, the election is just four days away [ laughter ] and trump is busy campaigning, but i saw a new poll that found that nearly 60 of americans disapprove of Trump Holding large rallies during the pandemic so, not only are the rallies dangerous, theyre also unpopular. Theyre basically the kid in high school who played with the bunsen burners [ laughter ] seriously, if you want to do something dangerous and unpopular, go to your local blimpie and order the tuna [ laughter ] thats right, trump is Still Holding rallies, including one yesterday in tampa, but it did not go quite as planned. Watch this just two days after President Trumps rally in omaha, nebraska sent several supporters to the hospital for being too cold his rally in tampa, florida yesterday sent even more to the hospital for being too hot [ laughter ] jimmy dont worry trump had everyone cool off by blowing in each others faces [ laughter ] actually, trump said we are only seeing more cases of heatstroke because we have most testing. [ laughter ] years from now, Trump Supporters will be reminiscing about these rallies like theyre old concerts like, were you at the hypothermia rally . [ laughter ] nah, i caught him on the heatstroke leg of the tour. Yeah, it was so hot in tampa, a fire truck, this is real, actually, sprayed water over the crowd. But trump didnt seem to know what was happening, check out what he said look at that. Oh, are they doing that on purpose . Are they friend or foe it felt good i felt water on my face, and i said, where the hell is that coming from from [ cheers and applause they may be doing it on purpose. Lets find out if theyre friend or foe. You do that at disney, you are dragged through toontown while they throw turkey legs at you. For example, mike pence plans to hand trick or treaters his favorite candy, ice cubes. Is it safe is it good what does it feel like it feels like the end of a really good movie where normal humans would cry, and i even well up a bit jimmy no it feels so good, because i have spent all this time feeling like i wasnt of any use to anybody jimmy yeah so im a farm animal. If you put me to work in the field and then i feel good, and then i can have my carrot and my apple at the end of the day, by which i mean my scotch. [ light laughter ] jimmy but this is so youre there with amy, and all the contestants, and the crew and everything somebody way smarter than me, one of our producers, i guess, they consulted the science or like what the doctors were saying. And so, they have put everybody in masks and face shields, and theyve, what do they they call them protocols we adhere to these protocols social distancing. All these new fangled like trends jimmy and they work. And so you look around, were shooting this show and everybodys is in a mask, and theyre complying with these like science ideas and were able to produce our show successfully. No one is catching the coronavirus. So, i wish that i mean, i dont know how they figured this out i wish there was a way to communicate this to, like, the country or, like, our government or something. Because i feel like if they found out about it, they would tell everyone and theyd be like, hey, everybody, if you follow these like science ideas, you can go to work and be safe and not die. All that [ bleep ] jimmy yeah heres the thing, when i look around and see all of us being safe, the idea that hasnt been fully disseminated is, when you wear the protective equipment, its not to protect yourself, its to protect the others around you in case you have it. Which you might. And so, when i see everybody doing this, i take it as a sign of affection its me and my neighbors and my coworkers and no one asks what our political beliefs are. We just see each other working together and say, i love you, and thank you for loving me. We can do our job. We can earn our money. We can feed our families. Jimmy thats right in my case, my wife and i can use our japanese sex swing we can afford meals. It is yeah and i toured a bunch of america with it last year. And also australia and new zealand and my cool publisher, called dutton, under the auspices of Penguin Random house. They came and saw me at the beacon on the Upper West Side and they said, hey, what if we turn this into like an audio book original. So, its like a humor show its like me reading my essays and performing my dumb songs one of them is very poignant right now, about brett kavanaugh, called i like beer. Jimmy oh and, you know, the Supreme Court justices and their legitimacy or lack thereof has been in the news recently. Jimmy sure so, you know, i thought it was its a great opportunity to celebrate that guy and how much he loves beer jimmy heres my one question for Nick Offerman, if we listen to this, what are we missing of seeing you live like, what would you are we missing out on anything . Thats a great question, jimmy. I mean, obviously, you are going to get the soothing sounds of brian eno, music for airport, if they were here suit baritone coming into your ears, and that will put you to sleep, which is great we all need to get some rest thats wonderful but, what you are missing is the rest of your senses. Think about it jimmy thats true. You are not going to see me dance and like, just subtly move my hips in that way that drives everybody crazy you know what im talking about. But also, there are some there are some stop gap measures you can pursue. Like, if you are going to listen to this get yourself a nice tray of charcuterie, maybe sliced up some smoked apple wood cheddar, and then have a single malt scotch from the island of islay, and just waft those things under your nose and if you if you live in an area, most of the upper midwest, where the soil is particularly low, get a bowl of that soil, throw it in the microwave for about 90 seconds, and then just these aromas will help recreate the fecund musk that i tend to fill a theater with when im dancing about the stage. Here is Stacey Abrams. Hello, stacey. Thank you so much for coming back to the tonight show. I appreciate this. Its my pleasure. Thanks for having me again jimmy i have lots of questions. Were getting down to the wire the election is just four days away people are calling it the most important election of our lifetime you live in georgia, which is a battleground state how is hows voting going so far in georgia we have seen extraordinary turnout like much of the country. Weve already exceeded our 2016 early voting numbers. And we are on track to have the single largest turnout for voters in the history of the state. So pretty good jimmy wow. Were excited jimmy whats whats key about georgia in this election georgia is one of the battleground states that has so much to offer. We can send 16 Electoral College votes. We can send two u. S. Senators and were also on track to flip the state house. And for democrats, this is incredibly important because it will mean that we have the opportunity to be partners in redistricting. That means less gerrymandering for politicians and more opportunities for voters so, were very excited about being able to send our votes to help joe biden, to help elect two u. S. Senators and to flip the state house. Jimmy what do you have to say to voters who have not voted yet . Please. We just need people to vote. We know that this is an election thats about the voices that have been left behind or left out and when those voices show up, when they are heard at the polls, we start to see the changes we talk about. We get a chance to have access to health care we get a chance to talk about the environment. We have an opportunity to have real criminal Justice Reform we have an economy to save and the way those choices get made, its based on who turns out to vote. And the reality is, if you dont vote, somebody else is making your choice for you jimmy on tuesday night, we hope that we have an answer to who won the election, but we might not. What what do you have to say about that i would say dont panic and we should actually prepare not to know. This is an unprecedented year. Not just in terms of the turnout, but because of covid19, millions more americans are using voting by mail or absentee balloting and thats a good thing. It means that we are safer when we cast our ballots and we arent getting in line unnecessarily. But that then means its gonna take longer to count the votes and so we just need to be patient. I would rather have slow and accurate, than fast and wrong. And the best way for us to get an accurate assessment of what americans decided is to wait its not going to take forever and its going to take long enough to know that the systems actually working and that we get the results we deserve. Jimmy you produced a a fantastic documentary called all in the fight for democracy, which should be required viewing, i believe, for anyone howd you get involved with that actually, created the idea when i was approached about doing a documentary on my 2018 election. I was there, i had no interest in reliving it but i did want to talk to americans about the history of Voter Suppression and how it connects to the challenges faced by communities of color, by poor people, by young people in our country today if we dont understand the enemy of Voter Suppression, we cant defend our democracy appropriately. And as you know, i wrote a book called our time is now. But i know people get information in different ways. We cant we cant understand just how vital our democracy is until we understand the challenges that so many people face trying to participate in it. For young people in particular, there was a recent article that said its not cynicism or apathy that keeps them out of voting, often its the obstacles they face to getting into the process. And if you dont know that those obstacles exist, we cant Work Together as a society to remove them. So i hope people get angry about those who are being who are trying to stop us from voting, but more importantly get energized about using this power so we can get start to expand access to the franchise and defend the right to vote jimmy can we talk about the Voting Initiative that youve also been doing with lebron . So we have been so proud to work with lebron james, with his group, weve been working with when we all vote. And we created our own initiative calls civics for the culture. Steph curry, issa rae, yara shahidi, gabrielle union, selena gomez, keke palmer, chloe bennet, Naomi Campbell theyve all come on board to help us educate voters, especially young voters of color, about their rights to vote and about Voter Suppression. Prepare them to cast their ballots and then activate them to get out and get it done and so, were excited that through our Organization Fair fight, weve been able to put this program together and its been an extraordinary success.
