Kari says its moving out. We can see the wide view of whats happening across the region as we are still seeing the showers, the snow is still coming down in the sierra and winter storm warning continues until 6 00 this evening and weve seen quite a bit of snow there but the season totals have been up to about 24 inches and were still adding up on that so well have these changes as we go into today looking at sierra tahoe. Two feet of snow so looking pretty good there. Well talk about whats going on re in the bay area coming up in a few minutes. Mike, the roads are slick as we are starting out with rain. Thats a great warning you gave yesterday and this morning. What ive circled here the Castro Valley y. A lot of early slowing we havent seen for months over there. Its making folks slow down, which is the wise thing to do. A typical pattern but notice the green highlighting around the south bay, as kari said, slick roadways, a crash around capitol expressway may be affecting the intersection and 17 south coming off 85, a spinout and slowing here on the Richmond Bridge. We are looking at a light volume. Look at that for 580 west heading into the north bay. Back to you. 6 10 for you that morning. Well take a look at how much we have at the bay bridge toll plaza. Lanes full and wet pavement there. That makes the span much more smooth. Wet lens, wet road, rain recently fell through here and the silicon valley. A smoother drive but, again, watch the transition ramps. Good morning. A very happy wednesday to you as well. Markets look to push higher after that news that laura brought you that pfizer said it had wrapped up its testing of vaccine for covid. A bay areabased Drone Company has scored new funding, 50 million worth, and says it will move much of its operations to bend, oregon. I spoke with the company ceo who says its less of a move than it is an expansion into oregon. One way or the other the high cost of making it in the bay was definitely a factor. Obviously the bay area is the most expensive market to live in. Bend is on average 25 cheaper for us to set up and establish. Were seeing this a lot with companies, marcus and laura, in which they are moving some employees or many employees away. They keep their headquarters here but thats happening in a lot of areas. Back to our coverage of the rain this morning. Our storm ranger busy tracking it. A live look this morning at the Golden Gate Bridge as well. Oh, yes, certainly wet out there. Although its been very pleasant to have the in. Ra its much needed. Ive been talking to people. What i do miss are those warm, rainy days living in the south. I like to sit out and watch the rain. It was a little bit cool for me, kari. How about the cool rainy days . Is that enough . Were getting those right now. Were seeing that rain moving through right now. We started with highs in the mid70s. Today low 60s and were still seeing lingering showers this morning. Storm ranger tracking it all. To coco county where we are seeing rain moving through brentwood and discovery bay, moving right over mt. Diablo as well in some of the hills in the east bay while the south bay is also getting another good soaking. We didnt get a lot of this measurable rain in downtown san jose so its good were getting the last round moving through right now. Lets take a look at our rainfall totals. Now mt. Tam has made it over 4 inches of rain and in santa rosa weve had an inch and a tenth. In napa weve had about 0. 6 of an inch there. Almost half an inch in San Francisco and in East San Jose in alum rock a quarter inch. The airport only 0. 04 of an inch. Measurable rain and looking like a good soaking for the Santa Cruz Mountains with an inch and threequarters and mt. Diablo, Berkeley Hills over an inch. Livermore has had almost a quarter inch of rain so its still coming down. Thats great news. The rain will be winding down for today. As we go into the afternoon were only looking at a couple spotty showers for the rest of the morning for parts of the north bay and then most of us will see drier weather moving in as the day goes along. Up to about 60 degrees in san jose. As we go through the forecast well see the fog rolling in tomorrow but after this round of rain its dry and it looks like that dry weather continues into early next week, possibly through thanksgiving. Its that close. As we get a look at San Franciscos forecast some upper 50s today. Off and on showers early, fog tomorrow and then sunshine and highs in the 60s throughout the rest of the forecast. Mike, this has had a really big impact on the roads this morning making it quite slick for the commute. Yeah, kari, but its a different problem because lighter traffic, of course, during the quarantine. Folks are having higher speed. Watch those speeds, folks. As we get out to the roadway a look at the green. The highlighting shows the expansion where the rain hits, as kari talked about the peninsula did get some rain recently and over in the trivalley some slowing, unusual slowing at the Castro Valley y. Some related to the rain that came through san leandro early in the commute. Now theres a disabled vehicle northbound as you transition to 880 both north and south. So great to see it moving through. Were tracking it with storm ranger, our mobile Doppler Radar, as the rain is moving through the south bay and parts of the east bay. We can see where we do have pockets of heavier rain moving through East San Jose, lighter rain down to the south county as well as morgan hill and gilroy. Thats a live look at san jose. Its a soggy start this morning. Chilly temperatures today and the lingering showers for the morning hours. The rest of the forecast is dry and cool. So well talk more about that coming up in a few minimum. Mike has been tracking how this has been impacting your commute. Kari, for folks who are traveling to the sierra we did have chain requirements and a closure for 80 between truckee and the summit for times overnight. 80 closer to the bay bridge toll plaza and the approach after the berkeley curve. We know we can expect metering lights on right now. The slowing at the toll plaza where the arrow is but Everything Else moves at speed and thats the big note as we head to the Castro Valley y. Some unexpected slowing for a disabled vehicle. The roadways are lighter volume of traffic. You can get higher speeds and watch slick conditions at the south bay and over the Santa Cruz Mountains as well. Back to you. We want to get right to Cierra Johnson this morning. Shes falling breaking news for us. Drug maker pfizer says its covid19 vaccine is more effective than first thought. A local company says its developed an athome covid19 vaccine. Reporter starting off that news from pfizer is pretty significant. They said they finished phase three testing and are moving to submit for fda approval, but theyre also saying theyve learned their vaccine is 95 effective as opposed to the 90 of efficacy rate just last week. The company is providing more detail on the vaccine coming out of that phase three trial. They say its very effective for older people and has no serious side effects. The Pharmaceutical Company says they expect to make 50 million dose this is year alone. Now this update comes two days after moderna said their vaccine was 95 effective. The biggest difference modernas product can be stored in a standard refrigerator system while pfizers requires specialized subfreezing storage. That will be really important moving forward. And local company lucira granted emergency approval by the fda for their rapid athome covid testing kit giving people another way to identify and treat the virus. You would swab your nose, throw that swab in a vial and place it in a portable device that would tell you whether or not youre covid positive. You are able to receive the results within 30 minutes. This is a rapid test. Right now were being told the test would cost 50 but there is a catch, youll need a prescription and the test should be available in the spring. Now all of this is happening at a very crucial time not only in the bay area but across the nation. Right now alameda county, their new restrictions in the purple tier are going into effect right now. Restaurants, gyms, wineries and places of worship are only allowed to take place outside. Retail and malls are able to continue operating inside but at a 25 capacity and barber shops and nails are able to remain inside as long as theyre following those proper protocols so a lot to remember. We have a lot of this on our website in case youre curious about that Pfizer Research or any of the updates, a lot happening in the world of covid. Live in emeryville, Cierra Johnson for today in the bay. Doctors say the next two weeks will be critical in the covid surge. State Health Leaders say about 12 of cases will be hospitalizations within the next three weeks and there are concerns that Health Care Systems could become overwhelmed. Santa clara county hospitals had 87 Covid Patients in midoctober. Now there are 151. In San Francisco a similar trend on october 18th, 17 Covid Patients were hospitalized. There are now 39. New this morning another small but critical step in getting San Francisco students back into the classroom. Board members signed off on the time line for a planned january 25th return date, but if things go well between now and then only the youngest Elementary School students would return right away. According to the press democrat the latest developments may have an impact with Santa Rosa School leaders vote on their return plans next month. The vta putting the brakes on plans to cut commuter lines. Instead it plans to roll out more service on some of the busiest lines that they have in just a matter of weeks. Well talk about that and how much rain you may have. Thats coming up. And a quick look at the bay bridge. We just saw a truck i think a tow truck pull a vehicle out of lanes where there was a crash reported. Still cant get a lot of relief because the metering lights are on. Look at the slick roads. The pavement is wet and tougher in some spots unexpectedly tough in the south bay. They did see some recent rain. A lot of spinouts recorded over the course of the morning. 680 with another report going on as you head to diablo. Again on georgia today where votes are still being counted two weeks after the election. So were bringing back our election bells and whistles and this is what were doing today. Thats right. Check out the top of the screen, the delegate count is back up and so is our election dream team. Tracie potts, this could be the day georgia officials end the vote counting. Reporter 300,000, thats what georgia says they have left to count and they think they can get it done by the end of the day today. These are ballots they already counted but a recount was forced because of the margins in georgia, so theyre going back through each one of the 5 million votes by hand. Today is the deadline in order for them to certify on friday. Also in georgia a brouhaha going on between senator Lindsey Graham of nearby South Carolina and the georgia secretary of state claiming to the Washington Post that graham asked him if he had the power to throw out ballots. Graham is denying this and now a staff member with the secretary of States Office says he was on the line and heard graham ask that. Lindsey graham did a fist bump with senator Kamala Harris when she returned to capitol hill even though he, like the president , is yet to acknowledge the president ial results. It got a lot of attention because of that and well continue to watch and seep what the results especially in georgia show when they finish the recount. Supposedly by midnight tonight. And, tracie, while we still have you and are talking about voting its interesting to see how women played a really big role in getting joe biden into the white house. Reporter yeah, absolutely, laura. We now know that women made up more than half the electorate but also went for biden 65 to 4 45 . Because there were so many women voting that seems to be what bringing up the numbers, scott, lets check out the popular count. Joe biden nearing 80 million this is a huge gap, scott, and thats largely getting missed in all the political talk. It really is. Its, after all, not how we elect the president , but there is a push to change that. The system over to a popular vote. Fearly 6 million californians vote didnt count, they werent heard in the sense they voted for President Trump but every one of californias electoral votes went to biden. Less than half of registered voters think President Trump should immediately concede, according to a new political poll. Just 46 . Another 32 say the president should get more time to find voting fraud, and if there is none then concede. Now it is important to remember the Trump Campaign claims there was fraud but allegations of fraud are not in the lawsuits that they are bringing in many courts. It is easy to claim fraud without evidence on twitter. Its much more difficult when the judge wont allow it in court. Also the people who would know best say our election was secure, christopher krebs, who protected elections joined other officials to say the 2020 election was the most score in history. The president fired krebs yesterday in a tweet. Krebs tweeted, too, saying, honored to serve. We did it right. Defend today, secure tomorrow. Protect 2020. Now as tracie mentioned well start to see counties and states certify their votes, and what an extraordinary scene in wayne county, michigan, home to detroit and its very wealthy suburbs. The two republicans on the wayne county board of canvassers refused to certify with one saying they certify from the suburbs but not from detroit itself. Heres the reaction from their democratic colleague. You talk about not certifying detroit though livonia has bigger variances than detroit which is 80 plaqblack. You added your name. I will not try to change your mind. I want to let you know that the stain of racism that you have just covered yourself in is going to follow you throughout history. Your grandchildren will think of you like george wallace. President trump repeatedly praised the two commissioners for refusing to certify the vote, but in the end they reversed themselves and detroit has been certified. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has thrown out a Trump Campaign lawsuit again challenging the Election Results there. A separate case in federal court in pennsylvania has yet to be decided. As i was saying earlier, neither case allege election fraud. Were tracking all of this on twitter. You can follow us there and find mean scottmcgrew. Thanks, scott mcgrew. And tracie potts. Holidays are right around the corner. A holiday all about tradition. The supermarkets to see what people are even planning. Kris sanchez joins us live this morning. Kris, what are folks saying out there . Reporter they are telling us they are listening to that advice of not gathering people outside their household, that they will stay home. They say they are going to keep that thanksgiving tradition of making that staple meal. I would say 25 of it. Chicken rather than turkey. We have on standby squash and broccoli. Were going to stay home just the two of us and make all of the massive amounts of food that i usually do but eat it just the two of us. Were doing it responsible and were going to try to distance from each other and if were not eating we will wear a mask. Yes, thats the rule. Reporter that is the rule. So when the governor moved several bay area counties into the most restrictive purple and red tiers he reiterated that and shut down a lot of Indoor Dining options folks were looking forward to. Safeway tells us they are seeing more people shop early for the holiday meal at home but say they are ready for that. Over the past few months weve been building up for supplies to meet the increased need during the holiday season. You can find your traditional staples as well as fresh ingredients. Reporter now some things to keep in mind if youre ordering a premade meal from a market or a restaurant because you feel like cooking for yourself, plan ahead. For target alone it is up over 100 . The bright spot in all of this not hosting big gatherings theyre saving cash and for a lot of families saving a little cash is a big deal these days. In san jose, kris sanchez, today in the bay. You can give us your vogue magazine cover, kari. All right. Lets get a look at some of the rain moving through this morning as weve been tracking it. Moving across the bay area bringing some snow to the sierra. Grit to see that, too as we still have lingering rain with us this morning. Were tracking it on storm ranger, our mobile Doppler Radar. This is the rain thats falling in san jose and moving over to the foothills. Spotty rain in the east bay. San jose is taking a break while the rain continues to move further to the south and east. Lets talk about how much rain weve measured. Mt. Tam with the highest amount anywhere across the bay area. Over 4 inches of rain, and then over an inch in santa rosa. Weve measured over half an inch in napa, San Francisco nearing a half inch of rain, and in East San Jose near the alum mark area, a quarter inch there. Weve seen the rainfall totals looking good for the Santa Cruz Mountains. For morgan hill close to half an inch while livermore has had a quarter inch of rain. So we are still seeing it coming down as we add up the rainfall totals but for the most part were going to see the rain tapering off for the rest of the day. Still potty showers late morning into parts of the north bay but notice were not seeing a lot of that as we look at the rest of the bay area going into this afternoon. There still will be a chance of a quick moving shower but overall just cloudy and cool and peeks of sunshine as our highs reach up to 60 degrees in the peninsula and the south bay. Santa rosa will reach up to 59 degrees and some upper 50s in San Francisco. Well see the fog rolling in tomorrow but our weather will be drying out for the rest of the forecast even into early next week possibly through thanksgiving were looking at dry weather. Temperatures will be seasonable reaching into the low 60s for highs. Those morning temperatures are going to be cool. We could see our valley temperatures starting out in the 30s this weekend. Mike, we are seeing still some wet roads. How is the commute looking . Well, kari, its looking good but thats the concern. You can maintain a higher speed. Overall we have the risk for spinouts. A lot of them reported throughout the bay. Our live camera shows you that san jose is getting a break from the recent rain but wet roadways. The water kicks up behind the cars as they travel at speed. The green on the travel sensors. The highlighted green means wet roadways there if youre san jose and the peninsula. Watch those hills through livermore and off 580 and into the dublin area. We had an issue here off the Castro Valley y a few minutes ago that spinout with north 238 and 880 that cleared from the connector that was there for a while causing a bit of a distraction and some slowing. It has recovered through the area. Now the bay bridge toll plaza has the only backup which you do expect, also slowing on the Richmond Bridge and its wet up there as well. Back to you. Thanks, mike.
