M, he remains at critical in Critical Condition at this hour. Its unclear if the shooting happened on the off ramp or on a nearby street. Also tonight, startled by gunfire while out in the water, a frightening experience in the final stretch of a regatta. Gunshots ring out, bullets landing dangerously close to a group of teen rowers. Heard it right there. This happened on the Sacramento River about two and a half weeks ago. You could hear the gunshots and then you see the splashes from the bullets landing not too far from those rowers there on the boat, a group of 15 and 16 year olds with the oakland strokes. East bay parent Fred Ackerman shared this video from another parent with us. His son was rowing on that boat when the shooting happened. To be in that situation and see my child shot at and it its horrible. Its absolutely horrible. And what i experienced pales in comparison to what countless families have experienced, he says. The teens on the boat thought it was just a joke. Maybe someone had shot a bb gun, but when they looked back at the video and realized those were real gunshots, they became shocked. Immediately he called police, ackerman said. It was an incident that made him realize our country may have a problem with guns. This comes as the city of San Francisco files a lawsuit against oakland over that name change, claiming it infringes on the sfo brand. We dont think that there would actually be confusion. We think theres an opportunity instead of confusion for customers and the flying public to be able to have choices. Mary richardson is the chief legal officer for the port and says they are filing a counter suit against the city of San Francisco, saying the name change doesnt infringe on sfos trademark, claiming San Francisco doesnt own or trademark the San Francisco bay. There is nine counties that sit on the San Francisco bay and several cities, and theres several businesses that use San Francisco bay and a lot of their products. Regarding tonights vote by the port, San Francisco City Attorney david chu says it is disappointing that oakland chose to ignore our multiple offers to collaborate on alternative names and avoid litigation. We have no choice but to move forward with next steps in our trademark lawsuit. Parents at New Horizons School say at 10 00 last night, the owner sent out an email saying the prek, elementary and middle schools, all of them are shutting down as of tomorrow, shut down the letter explained the move is necessary because since the pandemic, its been struggling with financial problems, low enrollment and staff shortages. Despite Community Efforts to prevent the closure, the owner also announced its filed for bankruptcy. The school was supposed to go until may 31st, so this came as quite a shock to everybody who is now scrambling for daycare and other schools and, and school gets out in three weeks seeing it in this way so abruptly, so fast, really breaks my heart. They both face multiple charges, including child endangerment. Just one of those pills has the power to take a life, and the defendants in this case, willfully caused an endangered their child by dealing such large quantities of drugs out of their apartment, and our office intends to hold them accountable. Bail was set at 200,000 for delgado, 250,000 for moreno. The couple is expected to be back in court on july 13th. Well, your pg and e bill is about to go up again or down depending on how much energy you use. State regulators just approved a rate change. Pg and e is now adding a flat rate of 24 to your bill. In exchange, your usage rate will be lowered by about 5 to 0. 07 per kilowatt hour. So what does this mean for your overall bill . Generally speaking here, people who use less energy will be paying slightly more, including those who have solar and who live near the coast and use less ac. It will be about 5 more a month. If you live in warmer areas, youll actually be paying less for ev users who charge at home, and lower income households will pay less. Ice regulators say the goal is to make utility costs more equitable and make it cheaper to go electric utility watchdogs say its a step in the right direction, but more must be done. We need rate reduction, rate relief, and this is a tiny part of it, but so much more needs to be done to bring these rates down, to bring monthly bills down. But six years have passed and those lights have yet to be installed, leaving critics wondering how long does it take for bart to change a light bulb . Heres Investigative Reporter jaxon van derbeken. This is bart subway tunnel under San Francisco. You can see its quite a dark space. So dark that bart awarded a 12 Million Contract back in 2018 to make it much brighter. So we are going up considerably on the lighting. Then bart project manager javed khan pitched the plan to install more than 2100 new lights, twice as many as bart had in the tunnel, saying it would bring ten times more light into the subway and bring the lighting up to current code. So train operators could see better and passengers could evacuate more quickly during an emergency. For emergency egress, you want to be able to see the walkway and find the exit. But today, six years later, bart has yet to install those lights. So what happened . Correct bart Inspector General claudette beamer says the problem goes back to 2020, two years after the lighting contract was approved, when a whistleblower complained that bart was not getting its moneys worth. It didnt meet the standards. The specifications that they set out. The Inspector General confirms the new lights were not as bright as bart wanted and wouldnt last as long as the contract specified. Still, bart liked them because they would be easy to install and lower projected maintenance costs. After the Inspector Generals office got involved, bart fired the lighting contractor and settled with them for 2. 4 million and vowed to install all 2182 fixtures, itself. This video we took in the subway shows that another four years later, those old dim fluorescent fixtures still line the tunnel and those new lights. Bart promised to install most are in storage with time running out on their warranty. Thats wasteful. Yeah, you want to make sure that youre getting the best use out of your your your purchases. Bart board member deborah allen, a frequent critic of bart management, has another word for it. Sometimes i do look at some of these things and say, gosh, you know, thats pretty that could be pretty absurd. I can see how the public would say that we reached out to bart. They wouldnt answer any specific questions about whats going on with the lighting, saying only that theyre reviewing the Inspector Generals findings, and the agency acknowledges the procurement process did not meet our high standards. And we will work to do better in the future. During a recent Audit Committee meeting, bart deputy general manager Michael Jones suggested the audit process itself is to blame for all the delays, but quickly added theres multiple reasons why that project was not completed at, you know, at that time and at this point in time. Okay, well, id love to know all the other reasons. Bart officials now say theyve installed roughly 30 of the lights they bought for San Francisco. Most in the Berkeley Hills tunnel. Lack of time. But when allen asked whether any of the uninstalled lights are still under warranty. Is it gone . I mean, were past the warranty. I really dont know. Ive its not clear how long it will take for to finish installing the replacement lights in San Francisco. So back in 2018, bart predicted it would take a dedicated contractor two years because. Because crews can only work during a four hour window while the system is down overnight. Thats going to put us to 88 in cupertino, also double eights in san jose over to the east bay right near the water, 83 in oakland, 85 in vallejo and out to antioch, one of the warmest at 90. The peninsula back down to 66, in half moon bay, 75, daly city. And you get down to redwood city in palo alto. Were in the low to mid 80s, right up to San Francisco instead of 80s. Well, it is a solar storm that will be happening, and we could actually see some of the solar storm energy break off and make it to earths atmosphere. And when that happens, we get the beautiful colors that creates the Aurora Borealis. Like this back here. Now it doesnt look like in california. Well see images as bright or as magnificent as this, but there is the chance. Tomorrow night in northern california, we could see a little bit of that aurora action, more likely near the california oregon border. Exciting nonetheless.
