A mother and father behind bars accused of child abuse against their 13 children. Police say they found several children shackled to their beds and the biggest shocker, some of the children were adults. Abcs News Reporter danya backes has more. Reporter inside this home, police in perris, california, say they found 12 children sunday. After one of them, a 17yearold who police say was emaciated and appeared to be only 10, was able to grab a cell phone, run outside, and call 911. Telling police her parents, david and Louise Turpin, were holding her 12 siblings captive. Police say they found several children shackled to their beds. This is absolutely sickening. Reporter according to police, those 13 were held in dungeonlike conditions in their own fit, starving. Police also making another shocking discovery. Seven of the children found were actually adults, ranging in age from 18 to 29. Everybody was super skinny and not athletic skinny, like malnourished skinny. They were very, very paleskinned, almost like theyve never seen the sun. Reporter neighbors say the family was quiet. Facebook pictures show the couple renewing their vows. Their 13 children in identical outfits and haircuts. They had to have been doing this for some time. And they were probably very disciplined and very meticulous about keeping the children captive. An east bay man facing attempted murder charges tonight after police say they arrested him for beating up his mother in a hospital parking lot this morning. Pleasanton police say they had to use a taser on brian bear thole. They say when officers tried to take him into custody he was covered in blood and refused to cooperate. The victim had major head injuries including a large cut over her eye and swelling around the eyes and nose. Sunnyvale police and chp have called off the search for a man who led officers on a chase through a golf course. Police say the man stole a box truck in San Francisco, the owner of the truck layer saw it on 101 and called police. Officers say the driver got out on highway 237 going the wrong way. The truck crashed and the driver jumped out and ran towards the sunny veil golf course. Officers brought in k9s to help search and golfers were caught off guard. We saw this helicopter hovering over us, what in the why is that helicopter hovering over us . They told us the bad guys are over here, so dont go on the 17 and dont go over there. A little frightening. Sunnyvale Police Detained several people but they say the thief got away. A san jose woman in the prime of her life brought down by the flu. How quickly this deteriorated, its pretty shocking. It is a cautionary tale that everyone should hear, next. She knows her moms in heaven. Shes just thinking about her and wants to hug her and kiss her. And all her kids. Dozens of students and Staff Members have been sicked by a norovirus outbreak at a San Francisco elementary school. A san jose man is presumed dead after a skydiving accident in new zealand. Police say 27yearold tyler nie and an instructor plunged into a headache in queens town last week. No, no, no oh my gosh reporter 36 passengers and 14 crew on board, desperate to survive. Jumping from the top and bottom decks into the water on one of the coldest days of the year. People started jumping out one by one. And the fire got really quick, really fast. We had to jump probably eight or ten feet to the water. And then get from the boat to the shore. Reporter the shuttle boat was heading to a casino moored nine to 12 miles offshore. The captain turning the boat around when the fire broke out. Those who dont will no longer be booked on airbnb or home away. Kwon has been renting out a room to tourists in his north beach home for years and says he supports the new rules. That would be a great improvement to the reputation and to the concerns of the cities that they have against these platforms. You should be ashamed of yourself reporter this did not come without a fight. Airbnb and home away sued after the board of supervisors unanimously passed the new rules in 2016. Aaron passkin was coauthor and predicts a seismic change. Christmas eve the cub arrived at her new temporary home, the fun for Animals Wildlife Center in san diego county, which is sharing new photos and video with us. She has gained 20 pounds already. So shes doing great. Reporter right now the yearold cub is sedated so she can get a checkup and a special medicated pa ed bath. You wouldnt think a bath is lifesaflg b lif lifesaving. Without her skin being cleaned and healed she would not be with us. Reporter skin tests show shes responding well to treatment. After this, where theyve been able to scrape off a lot of that dead skin and crust, she should feel a lot better.
