Tonight San Francisco supervisors are defending the ordinance. Christin ayers had some tough questions for one of the policys main backers. Reporter San Francisco supervisors in the hot seat tonight facing tough questions over the citys sanctuary laws. At the end of the day sanctuary is about public safety. Reporter sanctuary is what allowed suspected murderer Francisco Sanchez to walk free after drug charges were dropped against him despite being an illegal immigrant with a long felony rap sheet. He stood by the ordinance today and argued he would not change it. Weve had instances where Domestic Violence victims have not been able to feel comfortable enough to go forward to talk to Law Enforcement to protect themselves and their families. But this guy wasnt a Domestic Violence victim. This is a guy with a very different background. We talk about why we have the legislation. You can make any exception you want. This person hes responsible for steinlee and should be held responsible to the full extent of the law. Is there any possibilities to any tweaks of the law . I havent heard any discussion to what would be a tweak to the legislation. Either the legislation exists or doesnt exist. If it doesnt exist, we wont have the protection in place to enable people who are witnesses of crimes and victims of crime to talk to police. But today senator Dianne Feinstein weighed in saying San Francisco dropped the ball. Feinstein was mayor when the city first started its sanctuary city policy back in 1985. She said, quote i strongly believe an undocumented individual convicted of multiple felonies and with a detainer request from i. C. E. Should not have been released. Quote, we should focus on deporting convicted criminals not setting them loose on our streets. Feinstein is asking San Francisco to join homeland securitys priority enforcement program. That program directs i. C. E. To focus its attention on undocumented immigrants who are serious offenders. The plog the program is being designed. The former gang leader is headed for trial. A judge today ordered chow and seven other defendants to be tried together. They face charges ranging from racketeering to drug and weapons trafficking. A deadly crash in san jose this morning this chevy truck drove in to a light pole on saratoga avenue. When police arrived, the driver was still alive but very badly injured. Firefighters are battling three wildfires that are burning across the bay area right now. In bay point a brush fire has burned throichb acres of dry grass. 35 acres of dry grass. Authorities tweeted video from the scene the plane dropping retardant on the flames. Were told the fire has been contained. In danville a grass fire grew to two alarms above Sycamore Valley park. Much of the hillside you see blackened. Firefighters did get a hold of this one pretty quickly. It was contained at 30 acres. In the north bay the sky fire burning for a second day near vacaville. Its grown to 150 acres, seems to be holding there. Theyve got it 60 contained. At least two dozen structures are still in danger near mix canyon and sky ranch road. The best chance will be in our Higher Elevations of the north bay and also the east bay but we cannot rule out an isolated shower or thunderstorm anywhere in the bay area tomorrow. I think our better chance is going to be thursday. Heres why. Low pressure will now be to our east but that means any thunderstorms that develop will get pushed from the east back to the west. Better chance of something heading toward us in the afternoon, evening. Actually i think thursday will be the higher chance up to 20 or 25 . Then we may see a shower or thunderstorm here.
