In the wake of the mass shooting, some Top Republicans may be open to stricter gun control. Senators john cornyn, lindsey graham, orrin hatch and marco rubio said they would be open to considering legislation on bump stocks. Senator Dianne Feinstein just introduced a bill to ban them altogether after introducing a similar bill years ago. Theres currently no federal law banning bump stocks. However, they are already illegal in california. And ahead in our next half hour a look at the help the state of california is offering the shooting vic sometimes. Well, we talk a lot about cell phones and how those can be distracting. And they certainly can. But those builtin Navigation Systems can also be distracting if you are in your car trying to get to work and youre stuck in traffic, maybe trying to figure out the best way to get to working your eyes are off the road on that system. Researchers from aaa had two dozen volunteers had 30 different vehicles test on residential roads measuring how much drivers were looking at the screen while making a call or sending a text or using the stereo or Navigation System. They were distracted for more than 40 seconds. They say removing your eyes from the road for just 2 seconds can double the risk of a crash. Some of of these systems take minutes to perform. Reporter researchers say voice command can also take the drivers attention off the road. Now, aaa is sharing all of this information with automakers. They are hoping these companies change their Navigation Systems so that the most distracting features are locked while the scar in motion. Nothing like yesterday. But we are getting reports of a structure fire in that area right near highway 24 and 680 so chp is providing Traffic Control along surface streets and 680 starting to see those delays right now as you make your way on down towards highway 24 there. Travel times right now a little over 5 minutes so it usually takes about 4 minutes so its not any significant backup. All lanes clear along westbound 580 near 238. An earlier accident still has traffic slow heading through Castro Valley. Hats a check of your traffic; over to you. All right. I want to show you what its like to actually drive over the Golden Gate Bridge right now. This is what it looks like from the road level. But then check it out. You have to make sure the cameras are switching, making sure that all the mics are working. Sometimes we have had issues where the theres no input coming up so we have to, like, restart the computer. Much more real world giving them a chance to see what its like to have to do something in the moment and do the best job that you can knowing that you can make mistakes but that its going to work out in the end. Reporter after a trip to las vegas to visit the site of the shooting, President Trump is back in washington this morning. Two hours ago, he tweeted, quote, so wonderful to be in las vegas yesterday and meet with people from police to doctors to the victims themselves who i will never forget. Las vegas police say their findings have produced a profile of someone they believe is was disturbed and dangerous. They say they found 50 pounds of explosives and 1600 rounds of ammunition in the car he parked at the Mandalay Bay Hotel where he mounted his assault on thousands of concertgoers. Authorities also say they suspect paddock may have had help. We know Stephen Paddock is a man who spent decades acquiring weapons and ammo living a secret life. Its trouble son that this individual was able to move this amount of gear into a hotel room unassisted. Its troublesome for the amount of stuff he had at both residents, um, unassisted. Reporter this morning Authorities SayStephen Paddock left behind a note before killing himself. The contents of that note have not been released yet. What youre seeing is video of his girlfriend, as well. Were also hearing from the parents of Stacee Etcheber this morning as they describe the gutwrenching way they found their daughter and the moment when they reluctantly went to the morgue. We went into the office with the lady sat down she said describe her. He said she has long brown hair, she has this tattoo of this creature on her back from a storybook and, um, the lady put her pen down and said ill be right back. She knew she knew. She went back and she came back with a picture of stacee. [ crying ] and it was just its heartwrenching. It was really, really heart wrenching. Reporter a vigil was held in novato tuesday night for stacee. Her friends promised her husband and their children that they would be a rock for the family. Victims of the shooting from california are being encouraged to seek help from the state. The california Victim Compensation board offers Financial Assistance to victims of Violent Crimes and their families. People who suffered trauma can be eligible for compensation for counseling services, medical and dental costs, expenses to cover funerals, burials, among other things. Its available to provide the kind of help that we know victims can use. And we wanted people to make application. My view on it is the local people deserve to be protected and therefore the band should come on stage earlier. The concert didnt end until around 11 00. The fine for violating the curfew is about 1,000. Barts fleet of the future wont be hitting the tracks until thanksgiving. The announcement by transit officials marks yet another delay of the new cars debutful technical issues have held stopped the fleet from carrying passengers. The problems range from glitches with airconditioning to mechanical trouble with the friction brakes. The new cars have been undergoing months of testing at Barts Hayward yard. They were originally set to debut by the end of september. You want to get that fixed because you dont want to be stuck in a bart car on a hot day with no airconditioning. Thats right.
