A professional climber is recovering after a terrifying fall and rescue at yosemite park. Nicky baptist shows us her incredible fight for survival. The worst went through my head a little bit. I was really afraid. Reporter Emily Harrington knows the risks but the five time u. S. Sports climbing champion slipped and fell about 40 feet while attempting to climb the dangerous Yosemite El Capitan with only a rope for safety. Her team found her collapsed opt ledge in freezing temperatures. They worked on mobilizing her spine while trying to keep her conscious. A search and rescue crew got to them within 90 minutes to rush harrington to the hospital. Got scary for a while. Its hard to imagine what the rest of our lives might look like. Reporter the veteran climber credits her partner climb ebber. To help her. Reporter he became the first to climb el capitan without a roam. She was trying to reach the peak this time under 24 hours. Three experienced climbers plunged to their death while climbing el capitan. The less than top 3 of climber can attempt the routes. Preparing takes years. The mind set that goes into this climb, the planning that goes into this climb, all the details probably saved her life. Reporter harrington says that fall is not going to stop her from trying to conquer the 3200foot climb once again.
