Believed to be a suspected buyer. The van was apparently delivering rescue dogs from the fresno area to new owners when she stopped for the night. The suspect might have already sold some of the dogs before he was caught. For those in the community who happened to purchase a dog, especially from a gentleman in a white van, contact the Oakland Police department or fremont Police Department to make sure its not attached to this or if it is we can rescue the dog and return them to the rightful owner. Reporter now those dogs are still in the custody of the oakland animal control unit and apparently will be for some time because during the vehicle theft, some of the paperwork associated with the dogs turned up missing, so theyre having to contact owners, in some cases across the country to verify whether or not they own that dog. This just in, a hazmat situation in emoryville on hollis street. Crews responded to a building where chemicals mixed in a drum didnt turn out as planned. Sprinklers doused most of the fire, but officials are concerned the spill contaminated the run off water. No one was injured. Quite the thick fog to start our monday. We had a dense fog advisory across the bay this morning, and the way things are set up now, were not changing the atmosphere ingredients much between now and tomorrow morning, so if you woke up to fog or reduced visibility, plan on doing that tomorrow. And heres what we looked like today just to show you. Well probably do this again. This is the bay area socked in with low grade clouds or patchy fog. You can see the north bay. Thats issue number one, but as far as the small chance of rain, look at the futurecast. We start this tomorrow afternoon, and by late tomorrow night, like midnight and past, were starting to see very light showers work into the north bay. Not a lot here, but i want to talk to you about amounts and how likely we see it across the whole bay area. More on that coming up in a bit. All right, thank you. Pg e said today if the governor and a judge approve the settlement, theyll avoid court and a federal Court Hearing that was supposed to estimate its total bill. The governor is expected to give his take on the deal by friday. New at 6 00, 2 East Palo Alto schools are targeted for closure. They say theres just enough another kids, and its a growing trend around the bay area. Reporter theres a meeting just getting underway here in East Palo Alto. The district has been losing student, and now the time has come to take dramatic action. If it looks like brentwood elementary is sparse, thats because it is. Theyre operating at roughly half capacity. The superintendent remembers what it was like when she first started teaching in 1998. 5,000 students, and now we have 2,070 students, 60 percent decrease. Reporter last year the home prices here hit a million dollars, and the average rent of a one bedroom apartment is now 2,600. The slide deck of student enrollment shows students leaving in droves. The cost of living in the bay area is expensive, and a lot of our families are moving out of the area meaning theyre moving away from our schools. Reporter and so using a variety of factors like number of students impacted and the condition of the buildings, the latest plan is to take brentwood and willow oaks and merge them into 2 other schools. That will save more than 400,000 a year and the property can be leased out to generate revenue for the district. Its something that must be done, and i think the committee knows its a difficult decision. Reporter do you understand why theyre doing this . I understand, but i dont like it. Reporter ana has 3 kids that love brentwood and are sad about the possible closure. Shes tempted to move the family since several friends left. Police officers out in force at the embarcadero station today to catch bart fare evaders in the latest effort to solve the 25 million problem. The bart officers are hyper focused on morning trains. Bart estimates in more than 35 sweeps done since september, 75 to 100 people have been kicked off trains each time. I have seen the sweeps. I think the presence and the coverage is good. Reporter do you hope it will fix this problem . Im positive it will, and i also think it will work itself out. The sweeps are done at random, and up to 14 officers conduct them. Dog attacks will no longer be settled in criminal court if it happens on federal land in San Francisco. The San FranciscoPolice Departments vicious and dangerous dog unit was the citys go to canine court. It holds hearings to determine consequences for dangerous dogs, including in some cases euthanization. But now the agency no longer carries jurisdiction over dog skirmishes on federal land due to a legal dispute. And the National Park service does not hold such proceedings for dogs. Now through january 2nd. A San Francisco man witnessed the volcanic eruption in new zealand today. He was safe, but at least 5 people were killed. Heres more on why remote destinations are becoming more popular. Michael shade and his family are on vacation in new zealand. His mother started tending to those injured by the flying debris and hot ash and super heated gases moments after the eruption. Geologists described an eruption on white island that sent ash and debris thousands of feet into the air. White island clears its throat. So if you had fog this morning, plan on that again for tomorrow mornings drive. But lets look ahead to tomorrow night because thats when the next system gets here. A real pretty line in the clouds out there is our next band of very weak rain. If youre not in the north bay, you might not notice anything from this. Lets play it forward, bring it ahead. This gets us to tomorrow in the afternoon, but ill put a little higher resolution on that and bring it into the forecast for tuesday night, and did you see what happened there . That band of rain that looked so good out in the pacific falls apart as it comes on shore. Now most likely in the north bay we notice rain out of this. Thats predawn hours on wednesday. If were going to get rain, most likely its north bay. But then you see the stuff off the coast. In the forecast run it falls apart before it gets here, but its waffled back and forth over the last 12 hours. So the take away is we could see a shower or 2 in the bay area into wednesday morning. It wont last past noon and wont amount to much. Theres really a focus in the north bay. Look how the numbers get lower the further south you go until you cross the Golden Gate Bridge and then its 0. And not to leave out the south bay, lets pick the rest of the numbers out. Theres the. 05 inches for nevado. Thats going to bring the cold temperatures in the north bay. 49 for santa rosa, and meanwhile its 45 in san jose. More of a typical sheltered valleys in the north bay really feel the cold overnight. Daytime highs mostly identical. Mid50s in most places although san jose goes to 61. Most other locations come into the mid50s. So we talked about that small chance of rain on tuesday and wednesday. When you just look at it on the sevenday, you might come away from this thinking wow tuesday and wednesday both have a chance of rain on them. Thats really an overstatement. We just saw that if we get rain it will come in the overnight hours tuesday. Dont count on much. Thursday we get a break. Friday another rain icon on there. Thats late friday, again doesnt look like much of anything, maybe a light shower or two, and it should be out of here by the weekend. Back over to you.
