Its back to school in san jose tomorrow. Kpix 5s deven feeley is live with the lastminute change that has teachers scrambling this evening, deven . The district and teaches were negotiating up to the last minute. It was midmorning today when i learned from a teacher that the district had made an about face on their policy requiring teachers to be physically present here at the school. This deal basically allows the 1400 plus teachers to work from home if they want to. The district had previously required them to report to campus and be physically present in their classrooms for online instruction. The teachers had complained th unnecean entirely avoidable risks. The School District says this new deal is a victory for students and parents, the teachers say the victory is for common sense and for a plan that puts safety first. The agreement was an assurance that the quality of instruction of our teachers teaching at home would be the same quality as them teaching in the classroom. Bringing people back on campus, even if theyre alone in their room, still requires people to share spaces, to share the restroom, to share our office. Teachers are relieved, theyre also rushing now to get their home set ups ready. Some of them say they may be forced because of the last minute nature of this deal to start the school year physically in their classrooms and then transition to their homes once theyre able to get those set ups ready to go. In san jose, deven feeley, kpix 5. All right, deven, thank you, for the latest on whats happening in your School District, head to kpix. Com back to school.
