Limited visibility there and advisories in effect for the Golden Gate Bridge and headlights are headed southbound across the span into the city. Bay bridge, advisories still in effect here as well. You are looking live at the toll plaza. Metering lights were turned on at about 5 40 this morning. So there is a slight backup here at the toll plaza. Once you are past this portion, you will have a few brake lights near the incline and then looks like slightly better as you work across the upper deck into the city. But again dealing with the limited visibility because of this fog this morning. Also on partof highway 1 along the coast. Some dense fog reported there as well. They are adding more frequency in the trains and golden gate transit making changes this weekend. Thats a look at the morning drive. Another spare the air alert continues. Heres mary. Atrit gianna, boy, it has been an unbelievable week with our dangerous heat to start off our week. And then we had the orange skies and now the extreme smoke and foggy conditions as well. So a lot to get to this morning. Our air quality compared to ye morning. We are now dealing with unhealthy to hazardous air quality for the bay area. That smoke is just trapped at the surface here in the bay area. So we are looking at the 25th day in a row with our spare the air alert for the bay area. That is a new record for us. So you can see those red and purple dots, maroon dots. Indicating those extremely incredibly smoky skies. Please be safe and stay indoors if you can. So that spare the air alert remains in effect. Likely get extended into tomorrow as well and the reason why, on our smoke model, im not seeing a lot of change for today into tomorrow with our smoke. So heres a live look with our at least our Golden Gate Bridge camera. And you can see that low visibility. So poor air quality, the smoky conditions and foggy conditions as well. So temperatures in the upper 40s to the mid to upper 50s at this hour. So we do have a dense fog advisory until 10 00 a. M. For the areas highlighted in yellow. Thats for the coast and for the San Francisco area. The visibility down to a quarter mile or less. And that is in effect until 10 00 a. M. So were really stuck in this weather pattern for now with that ridge of High Pressure in place. The winds are not that strong at all. And thats why that smoke is just really settling at the surface for today. And for tomorrow. That sea breeze returns as we look to the end of our weekend. So not quite as smoky i think well still have that smoke. But it wont be quite as bad as what were seeing right now. So still dealing with that haze though as we head through sunday and into next week. But as we look to next week, tracking a stronger system. This upper level low that will bring rain to the Pacific Northwest and possibly down through far Northern California. Ill be keeping a close eye on that second weather system for next week. And in the meantime, with those smoky skies, its really inhinting the heat and with it our temperatures cool and below average for this time of year. The trivalley up through concord. You can see the purple dots indicating that very unhealthy air. Even hazardous in spots for oakland as well as for San Francisco at this hour. Up through sausalito. Larkspur and for the north bay up through petaluma and for santa rosa. Because of that we have the spare the air alert, a record 25 days in a row with our spare the air alert for the bay area. So dealing with that heavy smoke and also foggy conditions. Dense fog advisory in effect until 10 00 a. M. Looking at the visibility a quarter mile or less for the areas highlight in the yellow. Thats for San Francisco and as well as for the coast. Well talk about our weekend forecast and if theres any improvement coming up in just a few minutes. But now lets check in with gianna with the smoky and foggy conditions. Hows the commute . You know the commute is getting actually very busy this morning. Weve got fog advisories in effect for the Golden Gate Bridge as well as the bay bridge. But i just got word from chp moments ago about a Traffic Alert. Im Katie Nielsen live in San Francisco where most of the bay area today under a very unhealthy air quality advisory from the air quality index. Now its creating a difficult situation for restaurants and gyms that are forced to operate outside. Its kind of ironic that you know, the city has been saying that its unsafe to work out inside. And therefore, telling us to work out outside. Nowwere outside and we have to contend with like you mentioned the unhealthy air and the heat. Reporter local gyms will be able to start operating indoors in limited capacity on monday in San Francisco. But the smoky air is making things difficult for local restaurants. Right now, they are only allowed to serve guests in outdoor seating areas and the city has not announced any plans to allow Indoor Dining anytime soon. Thats caused we have to try to balance the needs of all the stakeholders. So we do have reservations. And guests do want to still go out to eat. We have to take into account the safety and wellbeing of the employees. And so we really watch the situation on an hour by hour basis. Reporter weve heard mary lee talking about it this morning. Today marks the 25th straight spare the air alert day. A record for the bay area. And that could even be extended again tomorrow. Now everyone right now wearing those covid19 masks. So the big question is, is that enough to protect me from that unhealthy air and unfortunately, Health Experts say the answer is no. And it is certainly a busy morning out there this morning. We are getting word from chp of a serious accident here, they issued a Traffic Alert southbound 680 right at andrade road. Taking 680 through the sunol grade area traffic is really backing up through the area. Use 84 or even 580 over to 880 depending on where you are going. The crash was caused by a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed. Some injuries reported in the accident as well. Southbound 680 from 580 down to about 237. Thats a 56 minute drive time. So a very slow and go commute there. Chose two middle lanes are blocked south 880 at andrade. Now remember if you plan on taking 580 and you are coming out of the tracy area into the altamont pass, traffic is sluggish through there for the morning ride for the supercommuters heading into the Livermore Valley. 30 minute drive time 205 over to 680. Not a lot of brake lights on the eastshore freeway. Things are actually okay at the limit there but theres a crash near university. Golden gate bridge looking slightly better. Bay bridge, the metering lights are on. But its friday light for this portion of the commute heading into San Francisco. But again, there is that trouble spot westbound 80 right at university avenue. We have unhealthy to even hazardous air quality conditions as we start off our day with that heavy smoke for the bay area. You can see those red and purple even maroon dots indicating that unhealthy to hazardous air quality as we start off our day. Please be safe if you dont have to be outside, stay indoors for to thsm thatextreme apat the surfe spare the air alert going a record 25 days in a row with a spare the air alert for the bay area. That spare the air alert likely extended into tomorrow as well because im not seeing a lot of change. This is our smoke model and you can still see that smoke as we head through today into tomorrow. This is a big concern for us. As were going to so many different days with this smoke. Now with all of that smoke, we also have foggy conditions as well. Heres that live look with our Golden Gate Bridge camera. Oour temperatures upper 40s to near 50s to start off the day. So looking at near zero Half Moon Bay and petaluma and a quarter mile in santa rosa and about a mile and a half for oakland as well as for hayward and for livermore at this hour. So were really stuck in that weather pattern as we head through today and into tomorrow. Now by the end of the weekend, im tracking this low pressure system that will bring the return of our sea breeze. So not quite as smoky. Now i still they will hazy and smoky skies just not quite as bad as what we have for today and as we look to next week, im tracking our second weather system. And this upper level low will bring rain to the Pacific Northwest and possibly down through far Northern California bringing the rain. Im keeping a very close eye on this for you.
