Good morning. Im jane pauley and this is sunday morning. Its oscar sunday. Hollywoods biggest night. As well be noting through the morning, from barbie to oppenheimer to kill a mockingbird, its been quite a year for moviegoers. But it almost didnt happen. Last years paralyzing strikes by writers, actors and other film workers all but shut down the industry, even putting tonights oscars in doubt. The strikes are now history and screens, large and small, shine brightly, a true hollywood ending thanks, in no small parts, to the efforts of one very leading lady, as tracy smith will tell us. The strike is one of the most powerful tools we have. Reporter in a strike lasting nearly four months, Fran Drescher was the face of defiance. Workers unite reporter now she is helping the town get back to business and doing to her way. What about your career on camera and producing . What . Im never going to work again. Shes a shooin for outstanding leading lady in an industrycrippling showdown. Tracy smith takes stock with sagaftra president Fran Drescher. Reporter it seems there is more to smile about now. The strike is over, and red carpets are full again. But in hollywood, its not quite business as usual. The big labor dispute is still fresh in everyones mind. Last year, writers and actors walked off the job after contract talks with film and tv producers broke down in a clash over things like compensation for streaming shows and the use of artificial intelligence. Striking is one of the most powerful tools we have as Union Members rich the studios facing strong economic headwinds and shrinking movie attendance made some concessions early on, but for writers and actors it was not nearly enough. Workers unite reporter for the actors, Union President Fran Drescher led the charge. We are being squeezed out of our livelihoods. The studios would say its unrealistic, its not. Its realistic. What the hell are we doing . Moving furniture around on the titanic. Were all going down unless we rescue ourselves right here and now from people that really are doing bad things to good people. Reporter she said the same things to the studio heads. Face to face. Some of the new deal was hammered out here at the Screen Actors Guild headquarters in los angeles. So this is the room where it happened . It is, indeed. Lets see. This is my chair. I sat right here day after day. The four ceos across from us, and their lawyers. This is really where we duked it out. Reporter in glasswalled conference room, the two sides were physically close, but often miles apart, and at first neither side was in much of a mood to compromise. Here are the most powerful people in hollywood saying to me best, last, final. Reporter and you said . I said, i understand what those three words mean, but i am telling you, if we dont get this and that, its a deal breaker. This is a contract reporter she says the tone in the room was mostly civil, but says the negotiations were overall a brutal experience. You know, sometimes i would get so nauseous. One of my reporter nauseous . Yes. When i walked out, i would be, like, my god, i need to sit down, need something cold to drink, i need to go to the ladies room, everything all at once because it just takes a lot out of you. Reporter do you think people underestimated you . Yes, absolutely. Not the people that know me very well. They know me and they didnt expect anything less. Reporter the studio bosses . They didnt see me coming. No. Not them. Reporter and after nearly four months, there was agreement on a new deal that gave Union Members a lot of what they were asking for as sagaftras Duncan Crabtree sunk spelled out. Achieved more than 1 billion in new wages and benefit plan funding over the term of the contract. Reporter . Essence, gives actors and writers a brandnew residual for streaming programs and a say in how their a. I. Generated images will be used. The new contract was, frankly, better than some expected. I mean, George Clooney said, i would have bet my house and lost that you couldnt have gotten this deal. Reporter to be sure, the contract negotiations were a trial by fire. But Fran Drescher is no stranger to being tested. For instance, the nanny, the 90s show that drescher helped create and made her a household name, almost didnt happen. The main sponsor felt that dreschers character, franchise fine, would be more relatable to Middle America if she was not jewish, but italian. Good in the bedroom . Reporter but drescher, a jewish new yorker from queens, held her ground. I actually said, fran fine has to be jewish because i knew that that was the world that i was most comfortable writing for. And the most easiest for me to play because it was so Second Nature to me. I am going to give him everything that he was deprived of as a child. Love, warmth, comfort, but first i am going to make up for him being bottle fed. Reporter the sponsor relented. Fran fine was jewish and the nanny was a hit. You went with what was authentic to you . Yes, exactly, because if i didnt and the show failed, the feeling of regret that i didnt follow my own instincts would have tormented me for probably still. Reporter and she had been through even worse. In 1985, she was raped during a Home Invasion and forced herself to memorize her attackers face so she could identify him to a Police Sketch artist. We captured him just by me describing to him what was still in my head. My frname is Fran Drescher im a cancer survivor. Reporter and after dying diagnosed with uterine cancer in 2000 she founded a Womens Health movement, cancer schmancer. The way she sees it, the bad times helped toughen her up to the challenge of leading a union through a very public and often very nasty strike. Do you think you were made for this moment . Without question. This was a defining moment and the amalgam of my life experience. Everything, good, bad, the worst of it, the best of it, my ego as a star, all of it, everything went into this one moment of truth. Thank god it paid off. Reporter but it might not be over. The hollywood strike of 23 is said to have emboldened other unions to take action. If i when i asked if her own union might strike again, she wasnt making any guarantees. Do you think there could be more strikes in hollywood . You know, here is the thing. Lets make a deal. And we wont have to strike. We dont want to strike. We never want to strike. But it took them longer than it should have to realize that we meant business. And that there was, you know, a new girl in town. Everybody tinkers around. But actions speak louder than words. Now they know. Maybe now theyll think differently. Lets not go through that again. Lets just sit down and come to a meeting of the minds, you know . There is ways to spend less money, folks. But dont look in my direction. Reporter what about your career on camera and producing what . Im never going to work again. There is a blacklist with one name on it. Reporter but these days she is basking in the glow of having helped the industry through a tough time and of doing to her way. I dont care if im reelected. Reporter you dont . No. I made my case. It may not be popular, and ill respect that democracy is messy. Im not a dictator. But i will stand on my ground. Reporter and tonight Fran Drescher will be standing here on the oscar red carpet, a small screen star who has found her place among the big screen giants. I am going. I am not going to feel like a shrinking violent because i am not in anything, because i am in everything. Reporter you feel like this year you earned your spot . I do. I do. I wont feel inadequate. I feel adequate. This thing . Its whats going on inside of me. Its my moderate to severe ulcerative colitis. It wasnt always this calm uc went everywhere i did. Mommy, why wont abuelo play with me . Reporter to bring gruff to life. When somebody asks you what do you do for a living, whats your response . Dont you have a more interesting question . No, kidding. I do, i have got more. Reporter julian curi is a master of a new kind of cinematic storytelling you have likely never seen before. Who did all of the work . I did. Reporter he calls it paper puppeteering. Each character in gruff is made using paper. First, drawn on, painted, and then cut out and glued together. Its a creative proces he developed three years ago when first sketching his characters. I ended up cutting them out and bending and manipulate them and seeing that they reacted beautifully to the light. So i stumbled into it being a puppet film because of that. Reporter this puppet film took shape in a movie studio very close to curis los angeles home. This is the tiny single car garage. Gruff was filmed out of. Reporter everything here is made out of paper . A lot of amazon boxes i used for this. Reporter with the help of light, a camera, magnets and rods, curis paper was brought to life, not animated but shot in liveaction, which was a lot of work. This is hazel. While she works great from the front, i cant put this character on to a motorcycle. Reporter not convincing. Its a whole new skeleton, face, and design. It just looks better. Reporter he uses almost no digital effects. Mostly just removing the puppets strings and editing. The one she needed it from the most was her papa. Reporter for curi, its art imitating part of his life. Reporter i am looking at you, talking to you, and i see a photo behind you. Is that your father . Yeah. Reporter he looked exactly like the character in gruff. Much like abuelo, hazels father, his own dad, who died from cancer in 2018, was a gruff man of few words. The strong silent type. Loves western movies. Just the kind of person who never says the thing that you kind of want them to say in any given moment. Reporter as the short film unfolds, father and child grow apart. Calls go unanswered. You caught up this them. Reporter until a medical emergency brings them together. Capturing the emotion of this chemotherapy scene with just paper was the hardest part of production, curi says. Especially coming from an inanimate object, that was really, really tricky. Reporter it worked. The emotion came through. I was watching the film, i was in bed and immediately wanted to call my father. It was too late, so i didnt. And i regretted. I need to call him the next morning. But all of that triggered by paper. I did my job. Reporter and the film has resonated. Garnering 3 million views and thousands of comments in the first week of its release on youtube this month. Unlike the film, though, curi did not reconcile his differences with his father, but with paper he created his hollywood ending. This film was my way of kind of writing a narrative that i didnt experience. Reporter which was . Spending more time with my dad as he was passing away. Reconciling differences that we had. Everyone has a story. Everyone has hurt. Everyone has joy. Sometimes you just have to be next to them to understand that. Some people dont say the things we want. We lost another member of our sunday morning family last week. E. S. Lamoreaux iii died at home on marthas vineyard. He was 89. Bud lamoreaux gone his long career at cbs in the early days of tv news as a writer for walter cronkite. Before joining correspondent Heywood Hale Broun to travel the country, telling offbeat stories about sports practice doesnt always make perfect. This is Heywood Hale Broun at the wrist wrestling championships in petaluma, california. In 1979, anchor Charles Kuralt invited bud to come tell his stories on a new program called sunday morning, which he would do and memorably. Sports was lamoreauxs first love. On a chill autumn afternoon baseball. Ted williams came to bat for the last time. Going and gone golf. He started playing golf about the time he learned to walk. By now, his father says tigers an oldtimer. Listen to the crowd and horse racing, were his passions. He looks like a million, doesnt he . He does. We dont get excited in this town. To dream the impossible dream to fight the unbeatable foe to bear with unbearable sorrow to run where the brave dare not go to ride the unridable to love from afar to try when your arms are too weary to reach the unreachable star this is my quest to follow that star no matter how hopeless which, increasingly there is another pressing question. Closedcaptions off or on . David pogue spells it out. There are a lot of tvs in the pennsylvania household of jason and marilyn mcmunn. We have about ten. A lot of tvs. Reporter out of the ten, how often are you watching with subtitles turned on . Pretty much the tv is on the subtitles are on. Reporter they are not unusual. Half of americans keep subtitles turned on some or all of the time. Especially younger people. Technically, the term subtitles means translations into your language. But these days, people use the word subtitles to refer to closedcaptions. Which were invented to help the hard of hearing. You, sir, should have surrendered when empire collapsed. Reporter the mcmunns hearing is just fine. They keep subtitles on for all kinds of other reasons. The parrot screaming, the kids doing stuff. Its a circus. I found i was missing things. With the subtitles, it made that all a lot easier. Reporter also, because we are seeing more actors with accents. Broomstick trick only works old films. I like to watch some of the british mystery things, and sometimes they are hard to understand. Reporter and because thin it was have thin speakers. Usually firing out the back. As a kid at bedtime, rihanna even had a secret reason for turning on subtitles. I id turn the sound down and turn on the subtitles so i could watch my little youtube videos without getting caught. Reporter according to the experts, the biggest reason of all for the rise of subtitles is this. Dialogue is getting harder to hear. Reporter oscar winner Tom Fleischman has mixed the sound for some famous movies. Its his job to balance the levels of the various audio tracks. You got rain, pop music, dialogue. Yeah. It was a real dance doing this mix. Reporter but advancing technology has made his job harder. Decades ago itthere was one microphone overhead. Actors were trained on stage and they had to let the audience hear them. With the advent of lapel mics, acting styles have changed. There is a lot of whispering. You know, they talk like this. Kids are the only thing that matter, maggie. Reporter wait, what did he say . Kids are the only thing that matter, maggie. They are the only reason for this man woman drama. Reporter the invention of digital sound recording didnt help either. Suddenly we were able to run 200 tracks at once. A lot of layering, a lot of sound effects, a lot of music. It makes it harder to get the dialogue to read through it. Reporter finally, in this era a of too much tv, often there is too little time and money. You have to cut corners. You cant spend enough time making sure every syllable is there in a word. Reporter does it ever happen that you send the final mix off, knowing in the back of your head, well, that one line, no ones going to get . Yeah. Reporter really . Oh, yeah, yeah. Happens a lot. Reporter well, on behalf of the world, thank you for doing whatever you can do to make it intelligible. Im trying. Reporter then the Christopher Nolan problem. Action reporter the dialogue in the movies he directs is famously unintelligible, whether its oppenheimer, dunkirk, or the dark knight. Nolan has said he sometimes likes to use dialogue as a sound effect. So we get this. Streaming Services Like netflix, hulu and amazon prime began adding captions to all of their shows in the 2010s under pressure from the National Association of the deaf. The subtitling profession got a huge boost. I like to watch an episode or movie through at least once as the play back is continuing, im typing the captions in, typing the subtitles in. Im adjusting timing. Reporter jeff tashige, through a subtitling contractor, writes the captions for netflix shows like stranger things. His descriptions of sound effects have earned a cult following. Oh tentacles undulating moistly boom reporter this became a viral yeah, definitely elicited some reactions. Reporter all right. So i want to try something. I would like you to close your eyes. I am going to make weird noises. Tell me what you would say. Okay. Reporter okay. All right. So here is the first noise. Okay. Erratic clattering. Reporter thats good. Here is is the second cue. Okay. Furtive wickering. Reporter woo man you are a poet. So now you know why the worlds gone subtitle crazy. Because youre in a noisy place. Because you cant understand the actors. Because your speakers are terrible. Because there wasnt time or budget for proper sound mixing. Because the subtitles can add to the storytelling. Because the director was Christopher Nolan. And sometimes because youre hard of hearing. Is there a downside to having the subtitles on . I dont like the interference with the picture. If the subtitles are on, i find myself reading instead of watching and listening. Reporter but otherwise, for the mcmunn family, there there is no going back. Lets say you win the audio visual lottery and they buy you fancy surround systems for every tv in the house and the Audio Quality is no longer an issue. Would you still turn the subtitles on . Yes, i would. I would. I dont think i could stop now. She wont be on the red carpet tonight, but pat seftel is a bona fide star all the same. Time to catch up with joshs mom. Am i supposed to be using my padraic . Yeah of. Im on my phone. Oh. I have my ipad here. I dont know how to hook in to you. Hello. How have you liked to go these conversations . I love it. First of all, i get to spend time with you. Second of all, its fun to see myself on tv. Josh seftel and his mom are back. And, of course, his mother. Hello do you feel like you are starting to get famous . I dont know if you call me famous. But one day i was in Publix Food Store in the Vegetable Department looking at lettuce and this man said to me, are you the mom . And i said, yes. And he said, oh, my god, he got so excited. Hello how many people recognize you in public . An awful lot. Really . Anytime i go to a restaurant or a concert, people, they will come running up from behind, from the side. Do you think this is changing your life . Yeah. It put some excitement into my life. My friend said to me other night, i think those people recognize you. They keep staring at you. I said, nah, i doubt it. As i was walking by, the woman grabbed my hand and said, you are the mom, arent you . We had a bet. I said, i am. How many times a week would you say you get recognized . Maybe eight, nine times. Really . Yeah what do people say to you. Youre the mom. Oh, my god. They want to take my picture. They get all excited. Then i get excited. I think they think im some kind of a celebrity and im not. Im just a mother. I mean, you know, if it was taylor swift, id understand. When you go out now, do you think twice about what you are going to wear and your hair and everything . I have to be careful how i look. Like sometimes if i go to publix, i normally wouldnt bother putting on lipstick. Now i do. I see a lot of people in publix. They seem to recognize me there a lot. What do your friends say . They are getting used to it. They stand there and say, yep, shes the mom. I said my son made me a little star. Have you gotten any fan mail . Yes. Like what . Letters. And one woman draws pictures of me. Did someone send you mahjong pieces . Yes. Chicken soup . Retired dentist told me he thought it would make me get better faster. Why do you think this is happening . Why do people care . Because i think i might remind them of their parent. Conversations maybe they had with their mom or maybe their moms gone now, and they can kind of identify with me. Do you ever expect this would happen at your age . Are you kidding . No, never. But its all your fault. You did it to me. What do you want to say to your fans . I want to say thank you for watching. I love talking to you when you recognize me. I really do. It makes my day. What advice do you have for your fans . To stay healthy, try to enjoy yourself as much as you can each day, be active, watch cbs sunday morning. Today. You look great. Everybody looks so great. When i look around this room, i cant help but wonder is ozempic right for me . Its an oscar sunday morning and here again is jane pauley. Turns out being the host of the Academy Awards is no laughing matter. Or is it . Senior contributor ted koppel is talking with the man who be center stage tonight, jimmy kimmel. Its great to meet you all. Reporter making them laugh is easy. All 21 of them are comedy writers. Jimmy kimmel live reporter the regular latenight show. Jokes for the Academy Awards, thats a little more daunting. Okay. Start with a prayer. Okay. We should start about a prayer. End with a prayer. Yeah. Reporter Molly Mcnearney is cohead writer and executive producer on jimmys nightly show. I am going to take everyone through the show, the grid. Reporter molly is also an executive producer of tonights Academy Awards. Our announcer David Alan Grier will announce jimmy. He likes to be called dag. Yes, dag. Jimmy does a tenminute monologue and then present best actress with five former winners in the category. Dont say their names because then i will say their names. No. We are giving them 30 to 45 seconds directly presenting to the person they have been assigned. These are personal relationships that these actors have with each other. Mostly . Yes, mostly, yes. The audience at home, let them figure it out . Reporter if youre beginning to sense a familiar chemistry, yes, molly and jimmy are married and have two children. I am told you dont drive together most of the time . No. I like to keep it separate. We go home at a different time. Since we started dating and working at the same place, i like to keep it separate. My work life and home life, even though they involve the same human, feel very, very different. I have a lot more respect for him here than at home. I am like, all right, clean up your [ bleep ]. Yeah, sometimes you get home, whats going on . Just walked in. No one is applauding . Reporter do you guys ever disagree about the nature of comedy . Yes. Yeah. We do. Molly tends to be a little more cautious than i am. Yeah. Definitely. Reporter because . I am very protective of him. And he is not that protective of himself. He is much more of a risk taker, and i dont like him ever getting attacked for anything. I just want to hear the laugh. Thats all. It doesnt really matter how it comes. I sometimes wake molly up in the middle of the night because i reporter because you have something funny . I cant wait. I cant wait. You can wait. Reporter there is nothing less funny, jimmy, than being awakened in the middle of the night to hear somebodys idea of humor. Yes, if you are the person being awakened in the middle of the night. If you are the awakener, its different. This is keep in mind, we have a week reporter there is a very old line beloved among comedians. Dying is easy. Comedy is hard. A packet of the jokes we have written so far. Reporter i mean, this is not just 20 copies of the same ten pages . This is two trips to staples worth of paper, okay . And some staples. Reporter how many jokes have we got, roughly estimated . This is what we did. Probably 5,000. Reporter come on. Yeah. Reporter really . For a tenminute stand upper . Well, you forget i have to introduce the best animated short. Thats part of this. Reporter do the math. 21 writers, each of whom does a few jokes every day for four months. Right now the monologue is 40 minutes long. [ laughter ] so, were going to have to whittle that down. Mr. Koppel, would you like to ask any questions . Reporter i cant think of anything funny to say. Makes 38 of us. Reporter this is like the 6,000 nightline meetings we had over the years. And just about as funny. [ laughter ] ouch we just got koppeled. Reporter here is the problem. Some of the best comedy writers in the business are gathered here and all of them are worrying about the same thing. I could read a few jokes if you want them. Its just that we will have disappointed writers because the jokes he read are probably not the ones that will be in tin th show. All writers are disappointed, right . This was the year we found out there is a little barbie inside all of us. Not just metaphorically. According to a recent study, over the course of a year, we ingest approximately one barbie worth of plastic. Reporter you didnt lose anything with that one. Oh ted, you are not invited to the show. What a great year in film. Barbie, oppenheimer, final finally matt damon in a movie about a bomb. Youve got to use that one. Come on. Poor things is about a woman brought back to life but has the brain of a baby. Its like frankenstein meets Marjorie Taylor greene. Reporter lets talk politics for a minute. Sure. Reporter when i say politics, i mean it is as though the oscars have become the oscars belong to the left of center. I dont think folks out there who are Trump Supporters have the same passion for the oscars that they used to have. Would that be a fair statement . I think its probably accurate. I think if they did watch the oscars, they probably wouldnt tell their friends. Not posting about it. I have a feeling there are some closet oscar watchers in that group. But i think, yeah, i think there is an expectation there are going to be a lot of speeches they dont agree with. Reporter i guess what i was driving at is, back in the day, when bob hope was doing it , you didnt know what bob hopes politics were. I want to tell you this is our big night because winning an oscar means never having to say youre sorry. Reporter these days, there is an expectation that the host of the oscars is going to be, in that respect at least, a little more left of center. Fair . Sure, yes, absolutely. But you cant really think about that. And if it makes any of those folks feel any better, i will guarantee you that 90 of the jokes that i deliver on oscar sunday will be targeting those very leftwing celebrities that they claim to despise and yet go see all the movies. Reporter you say target. Gentle . Some gentle. Some less gentle. But, you know, sometimes people are a little upset afterwards. Reporter really . Yeah. But you really cant consider the night to have been a success if nobody is mad at the end. To the oscars, man. Reporter there is an online promo for tonights show borrowing from the movie barbie. Here we are. The oscars. Reporter to underscore what a thankless task hosting the oscars can be. I dont know if i can do this. Its such a tricky thing. Reporter America Ferrera delivers the warning. Its literally impossible to host the oscars. You have to be extraordinary but somehow you are always doing it wrong. Like, you have to make fun of people, but you cant make too much fun of people. Criticize but not be too critical. You have to deliver but you cant go on too long. Reporter and you get paid what, for the average working joe, is a very nice hunk of change, but not really. Not for the amount of work that you have to put into it. Yeah, you only get about 15,000 to host the oscars. Reporter seems like a lot of money to most people. Yeah, even most people, wait, how many months of work is this for 15,000. Reporter exactly. What constitutes a home run . Great monologue. Great speeches. You hate to have a predetermined show. And a show that doesnt feel like it was prepared in a laboratory. Yeah. Its always fun when something unexpected happens. I hope something unexpected happens. To a point. I really do. No, i think you are the absolute best in navigating those situations. We dont want anybody to get hit. No, no, no hits. But thats where jimmy thrives, when something is off. Thats where he really thrives. He lives for it. I am most comfortable in an uncomfortable situation. Reporter youre a terrific adlibber. I dont think most people realize how great a skill that is. Did it ever occur to you to say, eh, where is that pile . C screw it . We dont need that. I will wing it. I will tell you, without question, if i were to go on stage for ten minutes on the Academy Awards and wing it, you would never see me again. No. Reporter not to mention those 21 unemployed comedy writers. And goodbye. Yeah. serene music medical discovery is like finding the right stone. stone skips on the lake and watching your discovery inspire further discoveries. string section building up danafarbers momentum of discovery has changed Cancer Treatment everywhere. While a lot of us are talking about a. I. These days, our friend Robert Krulwich has something completely different on his mind. Here is a little puzzle for you when we hear this sound, and want to write down what were hearing, we write tick tock, tick tock, you could say that tock tick, took tick is the sound of a clock ticking. For some reason, we never put the tookck in front of a tick. When we hear a horse down the street, clipitty clock, clipitty sclop. We never say cloppity ping or pong ping though a ping pong ball can pong ping just as well. In all of these word pairs and there are so, so many of them, you will notice that the first word in the pair always, always features the vowel i, as in ding dong or bing bong. The second word can an o or a or another i, but i gets the first position every single time, which is why you never hear about kong king standing on toe tip eating a kat kit. It has to be king kong tiptoe kitkat. Its a rule i have never really thought about, but owe paid it all my life. The question is, why . What gives the vowel i such priority . Well, some say there is just something about the i, but that vowel that makes you want to put it first in a musical sense. Like hip hop. The i in hip is short. Its tight, its quick. The o in hop is a little longer and a little lower. Hip hop. Hip hop. Musically the i feels like a which way to begin hip and o hop. So hip hop a little baby song. Hip is the start. Hop is the close. Open to close. Very satisfying. So maybe the explanation is simply musical. Or maybe its simply mechanical. The reason we put is first, mouth fatigue. It turns out some vowels are simply harder to say than other vowels and you can learn this for yourself. All you have to do, give you the bit, bat, but test. When you say the word bit, bit, bit, bit, your lips and tongue barely move. Its just so easy. Bat, on the other hand, makes you have to open your mouth a little wider. Bat, bat. But, but, but, but, the vowel in but tenses your jaw and sends your tongue down lower. You see whats happening here. Using the i first is like skiing in soft, fresh snow. Soft is are so easy to say, bing, bing, sing. Whereas, bang, dang, sung, harder on the tongue, jaw and lips. So one reason, and it may be the main reason we unconsciously like to start with the i vowel, we choose splish splash over splash splish is the same reason we dont go to the gym that often. Deep down, we just dont like the exercise. When a vowel is even a teeny bit harder to say, why make the effort when you can choose something thats lighter and easier and more comfortable. So maybe thats why we put i words first, because its the lazy option. And lazy is easy. vo explore the world the viking way from the quiet comfort of elegant small ships with no children and no casinos.
