Thank you. Lets get to first alert weather now. Weve got one more round of showers moving in before a big shift in the weather. Paul is looking at the last splash before the warmup. Fill us in. Well see a big change in the big picture weather pattern later this week. In the short term one last round of showers, including some rain, trying to hit the ground in the north bay, but as impressive as first alert doppler looks, especially in the vicinity just north of vacaville, we havent seen a lot reach ground level, barely more than a trace reported as this made its way west to east. It helps add moisture to the atmosphere and make it easier for the next band of showers to reach the ground, add up to probably less than a quarter inch for most locations. The showers become more numerous through this evening and into tonight, the bulk of the heaviest rain, were talking about light to moderate rain showers and will fall when most of us are sleeping, still leftover showers for the morning commute. Even those showers will quiet down by late morning and the dry stretch of weather once it arrives will last for a while. Details on that coming up in a few minutes. A big endorsement in the San Francisco mayoral race today, a leader of the School Board Recall and prominent voice in the Aapi Community has joined one of london breeds challengers. As Wilson Walker explains, thats putting a focus on the citys significant asian vote. Looking back over the last seven mayoral campaigns, this city is traditional mayors we expect them to solve problems in two years that has taken decades to solve. Reporter former democratic mayor young has watched a lot of politics in the city, helped organize the recall of the district attorney, has been a long time supporter of mayor london breed and that has not changed. Reporter kit lam is behind the recall of the San Francisco cool board and he is now throwing his support behind daniel lurie. Kit, youll play a Critical Role in helping us deliver a victory in november. So thank you, kit. Theyre feeling safer, just seeing more economic vitality. We need new leadership. We need someone from the outside to fix this. Reporter so alliances are starting to take shape on the heels of the citys primary, but the vote still a long ways off. Theres a lot of time between now and november. We have at least eight months. Reporter things certainly can change with time. Think about it. Two weeks ago the mayor was answering questions about the sale of macys at union square. Last week she was celebrating some big wins on election night. So given eight months, who knows what can change . We dont even know what this race is really going to look like, right . The filing deadline a ways off. The race in total wont be fully set until june. More than a third of San Francisco residents are asian according to the latest census data. Still ahead, a north bay family survives a plane crash with their 2yearold, the equipment on board that saved their lives. Plus from saving stranded drivers to rescuing people in an avalanche, we take an inside look at the sierra search and rescue crews refining their skills to jump into action. The biggest thing is being prepared for everything because you dont know what you could see as a weather condition right here, could be completely different a santa rosa family of three survived a Small Plane Crash in mendocino thanks to this parachute. The plane lost engine power minutes after takeoff from the Shelter Cove Airport in humboldt county friday. The pilot deployed the onboard parachute which slowed the fall and carried the aircraft into the trees. The three family members, including a 2yearold, walked away with only minor scratches. More snow and more snow coming to the sierra, elevations above 6,000 feet are expected to get three to six inches by tomorrow morning. With so much snowfall in the past two weeks, local Law Enforcement has been very busy tracking down people stuck in the storms. Andrew haubner got a firsthand look at their training and what makes their team so successful. Reporter Nevada County sheriffs deputies hit the snow monday morning. Yeah. Of our search and rescue members are doing a crosstraining for all of our deputies trying to give them awareness and how theyre going through the training for the snow. Reporter these types of trainings occur a few times a year when deputies in search and rescue train together. That crossover responsibility we felt it was important to get the deputies out here and crosstrain with search and rescue who are our experts in the use of track vehicles. Reporter the crew started off in light snow and in just a few miles got to work on avalanche training and road clearing exercises. Avalanche conditions can change on a daily basis. So we need to know how to check the forecast for avalanches if were going to be running issues on that side of it and just making sure everyones prepared bringing the right gear out. Reporter deputies and star teams utilized avalanche beacons, used probes and refined their skills in the Winter Weather. What kind of incident require them to spring into action . Could be a medical injury. Could be somebody who came out to recreate and are stuck out here, either cold or cant get out and the vehicle is inoperable. Reporter there is plenty of rescues needed in Nevada County and the palisades. Training issocial media so the teams can make sure they ken the public safe no matter what happens in the winter. The biggest thing is being prepared for everything because you dont know what you could see as a weather condition right here, could be completely different a mile down the road. Still ahead, weve got some more rain headed our way tonight, in fact. Paul will fill us in on the final lets get to our first alert weather. We keep saying get ready, one more round of rain and then dry weather right around the corner. Ive been saying that a while, light at the end of the tunnel, right around the corner. Right now we still have plenty of clouds, one more round of clouds. We can handle that. Especially because we dont arrive with any potential for flooding, no wind damage, just light shower activity with one last storm system before things settle down. Already the moisture has been hitting the north coast of california up into the pacific northwest. The first showers just beginning to wet the ground in the north bay over the last hour or two. It looks more impressive than it has been at ground level. That first wave of showers, a lot of it evaporated. Added enough moisture to the atmosphere to pave the way for the next round of showers which will be able to reach ground level. Futurecast shows the activity making its way in, light to moderate rain, even at its most intense, which is when most of us are sleeping. Then still some lingering showers as we start the day tuesday, so allow extra time for the drive to work. By lunchtime i think the rain will have mostly come to an end, plenty of cloud, about the those start to break up heading into the afternoon. A few peeks of sunshine tuesday to push temperatures closer to average and then the dry pattern beginning wednesday and it continues through the rest of the extended forecast. Lets add up the rain that will fall from this system. For the northern half of the bay area, generally a quarter to half inch of total rainfall. Its not nearly enough rain to cause a significant flooding threat. For the southern half of the bay area, the mountains will be more modest, Santa Cruz Mountains less than a half inch around ben lomond and only a few hundredths of an inch expected in the santa clara valley. In the sierra a modest snowmaker, a Winter Weather advisory instead of a winter storm warning or blizzard warning, several inches of throw and wind gusts only 40 miles an hour, far cry from what they had eight or nine days ago. Plenty of clouds out there, plenty of daylight now that were into real time. Temperatures are in the mid to upper 50s now. They wont drop too much tonight thanks to the blanket of cloud cover ahead, upper 40s and low 50s by early tomorrow morning. Dog walking forecast is damp for the first half of the day. Ori can walk in the afternoon once skies start to clear and temperatures warm up, but still a couple degrees below average. He doesnt mind in his fur coat. Warmer temperatures are right around the corner. Wait a couple more days. Lets look at the temperature forecast for tomorrow and well be within a couple degrees of whats normal for this time of year, but slightly below average. Mid60s in san jose, also mid60s for antioch and redwood city. Those are the warm spots on the map. Theyre a degree or two below average, upper 50s along the coast in half moon bay, San Francisco right at 60 degrees, 2 degrees below normal and low 60s for the north bay as well. Well see warmer temperatures beginning to kick in already wednesday, but the real warmup is going to occur a little farther down the line. Look at the tenday temperature trend for san jose, mid to upper 70s friday and saturday through st. Patricks day weekend and into early next week, but the price well pay for that initially, some gusty offshore winds, especially heading through Late Wednesday night into thursday. Zoomed in on the east and north bay and some of the Higher Elevations will have wind gusts in the 40 to 50mileanhour range, something well watch for a potential wind advisory wednesday night into thursday. Back to our microclimate forecast, we cant lump everybody together now that were seeing more variation in temperatures. Inland parts of the bay area, mid to upper 70s as we head to the end of the workweek. Around the bay, it will be a warmup but not quite to that extent, temperatures around 70 degrees and even along the coast temperatures should reach up to several degrees above average. Youll stay out of the 70s, but well into the 60s for those high temperatures along the coast as we head through the weekend, looking pretty nice overall for st. Patricks day festivities. Be responsible. No complaints, sir. Yes, be responsible. Thank you.
