Luna i think big changes away for the Political Parties in lebanon. If you want to be realistic, we understand it is very hardheo get rid ofoncept of lyrical parties anywhere in the world. Having different entities is healthy and democratic, the state of politics. However, when you have Political Parties that impose themselves on the country for years and that tried to bribe their way into the parliamt, io the cabinet, through their hisupporters, w using the collapsing economic situ bion that hasn happening here afteyear in lebon, this is not a very democratic thing. I think the main challenges to things. How will these Political Parties prove that even if they are to be an impartial part of the power, how will they ove that they will do something dferent , even 1 difference . And how could they cooperate and en the door in front of the Civil Society entities that are really technocratic, and that are ready to make this change, to turn this country into a more civic country, and not some country based on sectarian politics . Ja luna joining us from beirut. Here in the u. S. , talks remained stalled over the next round of economic ending f those hit hardest by the pandemic. Reporter a rare sight in this virtual election season. This is amazing. Reporter a politician on the campaign trail. Thats me. Reporter he is a republican challenger for a Democratic Senate seat in newe ampshire, thate president t wmp lost by asker in 2016, and where his endorsement still carries i am proud and honored to havede received pre trumps endorsement, and it is a good thing. I dont view it as a liability at all. I view it as a very, very good thing. And i would tell you that the polls are srting to turn some now. 90 days in politics is an eternity. Reporter joe biden enjoys an overall lead in New Hampshire, but prident trumps support among republicans remains above 80 even as some question his response to the pandemic. And been inconsistent sometimes. It has been overdone in some ways. Month manages in two goin into the general election cycle in earnest after labor day and beyond, is going to really make a big difference for voters. Reporter do you know how you are going to vote . Yes, im going to vote for the prident. Reporter New Hampshire and s haso far escaped the worst of the pandemic. That is why many support the focus on the econo. Despite record unemployment, staffro shortages are aem here. At first, the Health Concerns were the problem. The second problem was that a lot of my employees could make more money staying at home than what i pay tm. No one is replying to thent help ads. We cannot get seasonal staff. This is where we keep lobsr reporter New Hampshire restaurants depend on Seasonal Workers even when there is not a pandemic. Normally, he would be eaten by now,e but have had him for days. Reporter covid is not playing down a lobster trap. Foreign students who normally plug the g cannot travel. Prolonging it all, and then giving out the money to everybody even the ppp loans. That has been great for our business, for a lot of businesses. It eventually someone is going to have to pay that back, and it istunate it is going to be people in the future, kids that ote righten able to no reporter billy supports the relief under the executive order. He says the payments are lower and the payroll taxuts may alloorkers to pocket more money when they come back to work. Jane for more on the president s executive actions, im joined by rob christy, former advisor to president george w. Bush, and a bbc analyst. Ron, i have not spok to you for ages. The president s executive action a distraction, or will he get congress back to the talking table . Ron foremost, welcome home. It is great to see you as well as we look at what the president s executive actions have really transpired in the last couple of days, i think republicans and democrats alike are saying, of all, is it legal . Is it constitutional . Does the president of the United States have the ability to money to provide for people who are really suffering under these terrible conditions brought about by the pandemic . Im hopeful not confident, but im hopeful that the senate and house leadership will sit down and work the president , iron at something that is tolly legal, totally constitutional, and allow the leadership and washington, d. C. Are adversely affected by this pandemic are taking care of. Jane as you say, meanwhile, mill ans of america going through confusion and uncertainty. Who do you think is going to blink fit . Ron well, being republican and having been in politics for 29 years, im going to put my money that the republicans are going to thats what we always do. We talk about principle. What we arealking about is really a matter of trillions of dollars. The democratrs leap wants to spend 3 trillion to get out of this pandemic earlyrowned. The republicans want to spend a trillion. The speaker of the house why dont you come down a trillion and we will go up a trillion . Im going to say nancy pelosi and chuck schumer, the Senate Minority leader, will probably get more of what they want and what the republicans are looking for. Jane these are huge sums, and people like billy, who we just heardor heard from, i worried about who will pay for this at the end of the day. Is that a worry congress has in mind right now . Ron i dont think that having in their minds right now, but they sure better. We have add trillions upon trillions of dollars to our national debt. What does that mean for ordinary americs . What does that mean for taxpay thatoi means it is to be a little more expensive to take out a car loan, a home loan. The ability for the government not to pay down the significant sums of money that they are writing an iou that you cer generationldren and grandchildren not yet worn are going to have to pay, is something that is going to be a real issue, i believe, for voters not only in this election, but in 2024. Hwhe you settled us with, and why did you do it . Jane while we have got you, i want to turn quickly to the democrats. Why do you think there is a delay in joe biden choosing his Vice President running mate . Ron i dont think they really know what they are going to do. I mean, the Vice President really painted himself in a very difficult spot, put himself in a bad corner spot, by saying i am going to choose a woman of color,oo and i am going to a woman, as opposed to im going to choose the best person who can succeed me as being the next president of the unitedtates if i am unable to discharge the duties of my office. I dont honestly think, looking at the field, that they have someone they believe is a strong frontr for this position. There are a lot of people they are talking about, but it iser going to be iting to see, can they wiggle out of this logjam of their own creation . Ther than picking the best candidate, they want a person of color, a woman. It is unfortunate from my perspective. Jane we will wait and see who that pic is. Thank you for joining me.
