In 2010, there were 318 total vehicle related deaths and 1677 injuries. In 2016, 455 people died and 2089 were injured. Of those who died in 2016, 301 were in cars, 127 were pedestrians, and 27 were on bicycles. Among the possible reasons for the rise, is a dramatic increase in the number of cars on the roads due to the strong economy. Police say Dorian Mulder carjacked a vehicle hit a teenage boy who was in the passenger seat then crashed into a garbage can. According to the metropolitan Transportation Commission, in 2016 traffic related injuries and fatalities across the bay area hit a six year high. In 2010, there were 318 total vehicle related deaths and 1677 injuries. In 2016, 455 people died and 2089 were injured. Of those who died in 2016, 301 were in cars, 127 were pedestrians, and 27 were on bicycles. Among the possible reasons for the rise, is a dramatic increase in the number of cars on the roads due to the strong economy.
