They Sonoma County could be on the States Coronavirus watch list as cases continue to rise kron fours will tran is in petaluma with the latest on does this mean that were going to see more restrictions. Well. Absolutely because over the past few weeks those restrictions were loosened and unfortunately the case is went right back up not just slightly its been an explosion in cases so restaurants right behind me, theyre still open, but you can dine inside theyre going to roll back a lot of things like what we we saw yesterday in napa county same thing for Sonoma County. Its always been a numbers game so take a look at your screen. Here are the numbers that for Sonoma County and the state to say, lets roll back lets get these numbers back below the acceptable levels so let me just tell you. Early june there is sitting at 20 cases for every 100,000 residents. Thats not just good that super because the states guidelines says if youre sitting at say 99 or 100 youre really good and there were only at 20. Today, theyre sitting at 111 cases for every 100,000 residents just simply too hot. As far as the cases, 42 just yesterday since the pandemic started theyve had 14 people died from coronavirus in Sonoma County, 9 of those 14 actually took place since june 28th and that is why its back on a watch list. Over the next several days or even talking about possible. Enforcement of telling people to wear their face masks. If theyre not in a situation where they can social distance a lot of places will have to shut down after reopening were talking about barrs tasting rooms restaurants where you can eat inside that will have to be shut down for the next 3 weeks. Lets get back to the issue of masks daria i know this is your pet peeve listen closely to what this woman told me just a few minute minutes ago when she was inside the gym. We just had an incident where there. There are worse all the people that are working out have their masks on nobody likes it and makes everything much harder. People are diligent about lighting everything down wearing a mask and theres there was one individual in the gym who just was refusing to do so and it was very upsetting to everyone because. We are we need to be in it for the greater good and and for him its a team effort its not an individual effort. Apparently it got out of hand where even the Police Department had to be called in i watch the situation i didnt see any officers show up so it looked like that situation deescalated by itself perhaps. The man left before the officers arrived as far as possible enforcement they are talking about a lot of things including maybe issuing fines for people not wearing their masks because they want to get the numbers down to help the hospitals which by the way theyre not overrun with cases, but if this continues they might be overrun and wont have the capacity to handle all those coronavirus patients back to you that says nothing will everybody want everybody else to wear a mask, but nobody wants to be the mask police not even the police want to be the mass police. Exactly but i have a feeling you would do it i would do it if my life is at stake you miles up in a bad on my chest, im walking over and saying whats the deal all right, thanks a lot. Well. California texas florida arizona. And now experiencing surges of infections. That have gone up to 30,040 50 and most recently a total of 60,000 new cases per day we need to get our arms around that stephen we need to do something about it quickly because if we dont is a possibility. We may be seeing surgeons and other area. A warning from the nations top Infectious Disease expert calling out california among others for a surge in cases in now our cities and counties could be forced to reinstate stay at home orders. Kron fours gayle ong has reaction from local doctor. All of us are going in the wrong direction and so clearly weve got to scale back what weve been doing and be less open than we were but were not at the place where we need everybody to stay at home just yet Los Angeles MayorEric Garcetti says the city could reinstate a stay at home and 8 of the city says more cases we asked doctor Robert Wachter of ucsf how the bay area measures up with the state. It would have to be really bad for that much worse than we are in california is bad the bay area is not quite as bad as the rest of california. California is not quite as bad as texas or arizona or florida. Alameda county is the hot spot in the bay area but Health Mandates remain in place which means Outdoor Dining is still allowed its business as usual in downtown pleasanton where Outdoor Dining was allowed last month we were there when gabby a jelly owner of bochy be stone bars first weekend serving customers outside a boost in sales since operating take out only right now theres a good normal so. If we go backwards and theres going to be a lot of all you know a lot of people that our whole staff come back into work so i could go back where you just make things a lot more complicated thursday napa county scaled back on orders shutting down Indoor Services after seeing a rise in covid19 cases, a jellylike many Business Owners here hope theres no changes we hope not it was really really hectic during that time so hopefully everything calms down because we all are struggling with a very hard time. Another thing doctor wachter pointed out. Was that as the bay area sees capacity hospitals, many of the patients are actually transferred from southern california. Here in pleasanton gayle ong kron 4 news. And heres a quick look at some of the latest numbers in regarding the coronavirus for california we have now more than 302,000 infections with more than 6800 people dying now from covid19 in the bay area 30,000. Plus confirmed cases with 625 people dying so far. Lets go to the north bay now were Restaurant Owner says hes upset with how the state is enforcing the coronavirus Safety Measures jason dvds is the owner of loft wine bar and restaurant in the nation and the restaurant was cited recently by the department of alcohol Beverage Control this week for not following the state guidelines that required employees to wear masks. Now the owner says that officers came in and ask why the employees were Wearing Masks and then wrote up a citation which you can see says no masks. The owner thinks the approach of police was just too heavy handed. They did provide direction. They just simply rocha citation after interviewing my employees they told my staff they were unable. They were not allowed to record them. So the interactions so my staff was very uncomfortable with it and it was it was very intimidating i think that abc is out of line for the way that theyre conducting the strike force. So there you hear the point of view on this officials we should say were called that restaurant due to complaints from customers saying that the employees were Wearing Masks. The Restaurant Owner admits that in fact 4 of his staffers were not Wearing Masks when the inspectors arrived. In the east bay, a major street downtown alameda is being restructured to help businesses and restaurants get more space for social distancing. The city is re striping 4 blocks of park street between tilden way and so at news and it should be done by today is to allow the businesses there to have Outdoor Dining and Curbside Pickup and more room for people to mill around. Be able to come and sit and enjoy the just we think is a great amenity. Lots of places are doing this in alameda city leaders are going to do a something similar next month to webster street between taylor and lincoln avenues. All right. Thank you very much john quick check of the bay bridge this morning as we look at traffic around the bay and you can see traffic pretty stacked up here. As commuters make their way into San Francisco from oakland, no surprise we normally see that here i am picking up one incident, this is on 8. 80 northbound just north of high street looks like a couple cars got tangled up. So thats blocking the 2 left lanes but other than that Everything Else is moving fairly well the san mateo bridge is also moving along to affect here on the span you can see traffic is speeding along at the limit. No issues either west or east bound on 92 and one final stop for you actually will come back to traffic in a bit. Thanks a lot john is 7 28 and in the east bay u c berkeley says 47 students have covid they tested positive just this week. And many cases were traced to fraternities yeah this trend could force the University Change its plans for this coming fall semester kron fours Maureen Kelly takes a closer look. U c berkeley officials are not revealing which fraternities were linked to this spike in cases but they do want to get the message out there that young people need to take this virus seriously in just a Week UniversityHealth Officials saw a spike of 47 positive coronavirus cases tripling their previous total, the majority of these new cases were traced to parties linked. The cal greek system. So we know that they were connected to fraternities so not necessarily parties at a Fraternity House but maybe activities with the putter need is going to another event at another location but that association was definitely there she says these were indoor gatherings where people were not Wearing Masks or social distancing and some of these infections lead to secondary spread within households. Health officials with the campus and the city of berkeley have been using Contact Tracing to reach people exposed to those students who tested positive advising them of corn Team Requirements and arranging for testing but the fact that their case count tripled in just a week has campus officials concerned they may need to re evaluate. Their plans for the fall semester if this trend continues its important for young younger people to understand that theyre not immune from this disease is not only that they can harm others that they care about and maybe not even know, theyre harming them they could be asymptomatic. But they also could have some Serious Health consequences from south so we know that it does happen, you know that theyre younger people in the hospital the habits they want these students to memorize. And california is still losing a lot of jobs from this pandemic in fact the latest report shows that more than 260,000 new unemployment claims were filed this past week and crawfords taylor sackey has reaction now from the former director of the Employment Development department. Well its sights like this that are very troubling to see right now you know many of these businesses have been boarded up since the beginning of the pandemic and now months later, theyre still closed meanwhile places like restaurants are running out of loan money to pay their employees with forcing them to lay off employees that they already brought back to work. The pandemic continues to swallow more businesses and jobs in its latest report, the california Employment DevelopmentDepartment Says the press has 267,123 new unemployment claims last week now we never had anything comparable to this an employment attorney and former director of the california Employment Development department Michael Bernick says the unemployment numbers over the last 4 months or concerning especially as we see many reopening timelines in the bay area come to a screeching halt question thats the main storyline of the past week or past 2 weeks. The fact that we had a plan were moving forward. In my view to slow but were moving. Ford on the plan and in the past couple we moved back. Indoor dining other forms of activities have been cut back were beginning to see this even now the past weeks numbers but i think were going to start seeing more bernick like many others predicts more unemployment claims are to follow. Unfortunately, businesses permanently closing due to financial struggles is nothing new but now restrictions are being reimposed across the bay area in many Small Businesses are running out of money from the payment protection program. Or ppp loans be Paycheck Protection Program which subsidized. Up to a 100 subsidize jobs. From Many Companies that will be well have been spent. I june 30th, even though now its recently congress extended use the time, yes, somebody but a lot of companies have spent by june 30 is i take that fear, were going to a significant number of jobs that were subsidized by the Paycheck Protection Program. Now turning into layoffs contributing to an economy thats becoming more dependent on Unemployment Insurance this morning. Edd release its most recent figures, its paid out over 40 billion mail 40 billion in Unemployment Insurance over 7. 7 million. Unemployment claims. So i mean we are in a country that basically subsisting in good part on unemployment checks fence. Thats not sustainable but many jobs may not come back for a while bernick suggest using approaches from the past things like transitional jobs. National headlines a cdc will not revise its guidelines for reopening schools now the cdc guidelines say its up to local schools to decide how and when to open their schools and run them safely, but as Caitlin Collins explains those guidelines go against what the president was demanding. Everybody is in full ppe we have guards we have mass we have gloves. And the way its set up people never actually get out of their cars. So weve really worked on making sure that this is a safe process super convenient too. Thank you very much john so the Never Trump Movement failed 4 years ago, but there is a small band of republicans are still bucking their party in are back again with a new game plan and this time they have President Trumps own words and record to use against him. Jeff zeleny explains. When President Trump said this about spike in cases of coronavirus so i said to my people slow that s p down please. A new Television Ad quickly spring to life love the testing down the testing down. This slowdown our chance to save 10s of thousands of lives. Its not the work of democrats but rather the Never Trump Movement a small slice of republicans trying to make trump a one term president after failing for years ago the movement is back and multiplying with the Lincoln Project and Republican Voters against trump along with new groups like bush alumni for biden whose slogan is we work for w we support joe within a couple of days is going to be down to close to 0 this time theyre using the president s words against him, hoping to get into his head at least thats the goal of the Lincoln Project whose videos made by former aides to George W Bush john mccain and mitt romney are designed to relentlessly mocked and needle the president. George conway whose wife Kellyanne Conway is a top trump adviser is a cofounder hes thoroughly unfit for office the president has long marks never trumpers taking delight in taking over the republican party, some of these people dont get it never trump by the way never trump is disappearing rapidly while polls show as many as 9 out of 10 republicans say they support the president the second act of the movement may be different than 2016. 2 reasons why the trump record and joe biden is not Hillary Clinton joe biden just simply. This is scary to them i think women are going to lose this election for donald trump i think that is going to be the decisive and defining group of people Sarah Longwell calls herself a proud nevertrumpers she founded Republican Voters against trump where shes been studying trump voters since 2016, shes watched them stand by the president , but now she senses a different moment, the Health Crisis the economic crisis. The racial crisis people are tired, they feel like trump isnt fix for the moment, they feel like the stakes are higher, but its an open question how many voters the never trumpers can actually persuade in an electorate more polarized than ever.
