Fall as this is the last friday of summer youre more than the rest of your forecast is still ahead james all right john thank you 6 oclock. Lets take a quick live look here at the bay bridge. So far so good youre still making good time from oakland in a San Francisco, the morning backup really hasnt taken hold yet. And maybe well enjoy a friday light commute well have to wait and see but for now anyway, its looking all right. The san mateo bridge also moving well. Volume a little heavier here, but you can still see the traffic moving pretty much at the limit even though it is getting a little more congestion out there on your right from san mateo out towards foster city and then one final stop for you we have the Richmond Sandra fell bridge and in this one we do have a few lanes beginning to backup as the morning commute begins to but no major incidents, no problems reported on the span itself so once you get past the toll plaza. Youre making good time into marion county. The big story this morning Elementary School students in San Francisco or step closer to heading back into the classroom now the San FranciscoDepartment Public health is inspecting schools to ensure that they meet both state and county standards with kron 4 Sarah Stinson following the story for us live from the city good morning sara. Good good news on the school front for those who are eager to get back in the classroom. The Health Department says that in San Francisco, the first round of school or worst first round of schools will be back in the classroom within just the next 2 weeks. Thats really big and what theyre doing now is take a look at your screen theyve been inspecting the schools making sure that the plans that they have proved are actually being done in implemented, you can see the literally measuring the distance between each death something that really needs to be done making sure that the students can keep their distance from one another each desk has its own supplies. Theres the kids dont have to share. They have a lot of work that has to be done they have to put signs up for minding children to wash their hands keep their distance. I mean theres a lot of work that you have to do to implement these things because children need constant reminders of this classrooms have to meet standards set by the state and the county schools that will reopen first for in person classes created an indepth safety plan they submitted it theyre were implication to the countys Health Department and the Health Department reviewed and approved it or they gave them comments and feedback and then they had to resubmit know a lot of the schools did get a past and thats why they had to go make sure that everything they said they were going to do is actually being done now San Francisco did enter the red tier 2 in the states color tiered system for this whole reopening process for schools and the now can open k through 12 if we remain in this tier for 2 weeks, however, the county Health Department here still saying okay still need to submit a lot of to us we still need to make sure that everything is good to go before those kids get into the classroom thats going to be a big time for this area for San Francisco. But its first you know the soft to fly and also theyre going to Distance Learning until they get into that classroom, something well continue to follow. Here in San Francisco for now ill send it back to you in the newsroom. Ok thank you very much sara. And in the north bay Health Officials are dealing with a covid outbreak at several daycares. And preschools in Sonoma County kron fours terisa stasio has more on that. Here in Sonoma County doctors and ari mays is Sonoma Countys Health Officer and she recently informed local officials that her office has dealt with a widespread outbreak of covid19 cases, a day care facilities Nursery Schools as well as Elementary Schools. Which is what is recommended by the statement have this in cases in one facility. Doctor mays revealed several other Home Day Care facilities recently were forced to shut down as well and that their quarantine period has ended. None of the facilities were named for privacy reasons. So of the 62 cases, 25 have occurred in students 10 have occurred in staff and 27 in parents or siblings. You can see here theres been a breakdown in terms of geography. Doctor mays says that all of this comes as the Public Schools in Sonoma County remain closed. And that the county is in purple with the case low to high per capita to shift into red which would allow schools to open in a limited capacity. Doctor may says that what has happened at these facilities has something to watch closely and learn from here in Sonoma County tree says stasio kron 4 news one of the Biggest School districts in Sonoma County is sticking to Distance Learning theyre calling it for the rest of. And the district is also concerned about the cost. Associated with resuming in person learning. Although california is making strides in containing covid Health Experts are still cautioning that were not in the clear especially with flu season around the corner and the holidays right after that. You have a very clear example of how we can mess this up Christmas Parties halloween. Big thanksgiving dinners. You know doctor rutherford says that getting the flu shot will help withstand any coronavirus surge until. A vaccine is ready. Governor newsome is taking more steps to protect essential workers from covid in the workplace. The governor signed 2 bills expanding workplace protections and critical support for workers. One insurers employees are quickly informed of any workplace exposure to coronavirus for the state to close that work site and then the other bill expands access to workers comp and makes it easier for those who get coronavirus at work to get the support they need. Protecting californias workers which include so many immigrant workers workers of color women and those from vulnerable communities in our state would be critical to Public Health to our Economic Health and ultimately to a safe reopening these bills give workers a choice and a voice. And these measures are now in effect and they will remain in place until january first of 20 23. Well have details on that coming up in a live report and good air quality returns today and a beautiful one to step outside and enjoy it. Daytime highs in the and we are back 6. 13 is the time and check this out. Scenes like this you think theres a fire raging on the hill. Well. This imagery from Yosemite National park which they had to close over the weekend not because fires were raging in the valley, but because the smoke made the air off the dangerous to breathe and created this orange sky which we know well here around the bay area after experiencing that last week park Officials Say the air quality there is projected to be in the unhealthy to hazardous range for at least another few days. This isnt the first time theyve had to close the park this year you may remember back in march, they had to shut down because of the coronavirus pandemic and then they reopen in phases in june and here we are once again having the park shut down this time because of the pat air. What a different story and a different picture in the north bay. Look at that blue skies clean air when thats a scary. You know weve ahead play this story is just look at the sky yeah about that is over a vineyard to basketball. And so that was the good news is after. 30 days of bad spare the air days. We finally got a slice heaven now that theyre july and before it goes away that still mind boggling that blue skies are a big deal i know its been yeah been a month where weve seen just nothing but great smoky skies and we breathe easy again today, nice and then john what about the weekend. So tomorrow should still be holding up all right to it sunday that i really got my eyes on could result in some less than ideal conditions as far as air quality goes we have low clouds sitting above the east bay right now, but no haze out there, its just the cloud cover a lot like we saw yesterday. Even though bridges like the bay bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge and the benicia bridge which all visibility alerts, fog yesterday. Are free of those this morning as that cloud cover sitting right above us instead look at this a couple of sprinkles across the Central Valley up into the Sierra Nevada, were dry here in the bay areas this cold front plunges on into the region helping to keep air nice clean and crisp for that matter this morning. We are seeing showers in Northern California, the sierra and then just those few sprinkles in the Central Valley here in the bay area though really dodging them what were getting is a cooler day today as well as some brisk winds out of the northwest that you can see showing up especially into the afternoon here on our winds about breezy us for the north bay and our east bay hills come the latter part of the day todays daytime highs, the coolest of your forecast. While napa a Beautiful Day up there we just showed you that napa video only 76 degrees today. Now tomorrow will be a little bit warmer i do expect some haze in the skies for your saturday. Then come sunday which will result in an offshore wind bringing in along with it some smoke from still burning wildfires across the region. Tuesday is your first day of fall well, some are really flew by this year were going to be sick daytime highs on that first day of fall in the 70s and 80s james all right, thank you very much john quick check of a few bridges here for you well start with the bay bridge toll plaza where so far looking pretty good as you make your way towards the toll gates, no issues on the span so all in all youre making good time from oakland in a San Francisco for now anyway, but well keep a track. Of the commute for you were looking here at the san mateo bridge. Were so far so good i mean traffic still moving although we are looking at increased volume but again no big surprise thats typically what happens here in the 6 oclock hour. But it being friday hopefully it will stay like that all morning long and the track of keep moving. Same cant be said for this the Richmond Sandra fell bridge. Youve got this section of west bound 5. 80 a bit jammed up here as you make your way to the toll gates again no issue on the span the chp logs been relatively clear of any problems for this ride in a marine county, so once you get past the toll plaza. Youre doing all right as you work your way in towards sandra fell. And then a final check for the Golden Gate Bridge or one southbound ride from marin county into San Francisco. Moving at the limit no issues at all the chp reporting Clear Conditions from santa rosa down into San Francisco. In the south bay people in Santa Clara County can get free flu shots this weekend. Its all part of a new effort to keep people safe during flu and pandemic season weve got kron fours will tran live in santa clara with what you need to know if you want one of the shot that quite as fun as the fair you dont get a fair foodie and shot the army now. No this no fun getting a shot i its downright painful to some people but you have to do it because james talked about that one p word pandemic they want to make sure that the hospitals are not overrun with people who come down with severe case of flu not covid but severe case of flu and then take up that bad which could be used for covid19 patients which is why they say this year could be the most important year for all of us to get flu shots this will happen not today. Tomorrow you can see that marquee right there at that fairgrounds and this is off attorney holly road in san jose. They try to make it as easy as they possibly can for everybody drive up hop out of your car get your shot hop back in your car. They dont care about your immigration status. You dont have to have health insurance. The key word is. 3 in fact weve got a chance to track down a county supervisor and one of the ceos involved in all of this. Heres what they had to say about getting the flu shot. If youre driving your car you can drive your gate dm park and walk right up to the expo and get a flu shot you dont need an appointment this is not. A vaccine against covid. The flu is not related to covid. You will not get covid by getting the flu vaccine. And of course everybody will make sure that theyre safe they will have every precaution necessary in case youre afraid of catching covid or them passing it along to you, speaking of covid if they say that if you have maybe symptoms of covid do not come down here call your doctor up get checked out and then get your flu shot at that particular location at your Doctors Office if you cannot make it down here tomorrow dont worry about it begins tomorrow, sure its going to be every saturday starting tomorrow all the way through december. James started. All right, thanks a lot well already got one, but im all set hopefully will be protected this year all right, lets turn our attention to the peninsula. We have a colorful minivan driving around san mateo county. Delivering face masks to people. Its called the mass mobile and it was put in the surface this week and its being driven by county workers as they focus on the countys most Vulnerable Community and there you see its pretty colorful. In addition to handing out kits of free reusable face masks, theyre also handing out Hand Sanitizer as well. What were doing here in san mateo county. Maybe one of the first in the state first in the nation is this mass mobile and so making sure that we hit the techno tested positive in a rather high rate really going in and making sure that we give them these mass and its critical right now. Because were in the purple. Hopefully well be able to do. Its the moving to the right next week more people wear their masks it stops the spread of the virus. And once that now famous black lives matter mural that was seen across the united states. Here martinez, well it 6. 29 right now and well get a look at the weather looks like its going to be a nice day again good morning john good morning guys Beautiful Day ahead of us temperatures will be even cooler than they were yesterday in the 70s for most of the bay area today which is quite the tree. Here last friday of summer looking outside from San Francisco, theres some low cloud cover overhead nothing like the fog that was draping the bay and making for low visibility yesterday so big improvements in that regard. 60s are your current temperatures though san jose at 65 oakland at a cool 66. Well conquered and pittsburgh kicking things off comfortably at 64 degrees each this afternoon look at these daytime highs i think were all going to love the 70s were about to see from the coast to most of our inland areas are coolest day of this forecast and one of our better days for air quality too so go ahead and enjoy. James, all right john thank you very much, heres a quick check of traffic around the bay this morning, well begin with the bay bridge toll plaza approach and you can see traffic for the most part moving well without too much slow down as you make your way to the gates themselves and across the span into San Francisco. So this section westbound 80 looking pretty good for you this morning. Were also checking out the right here at the san mateo bridge highway 92 again moving at the limit this morning, the chp lot clear no problems to report for you on this span or on either side of the bridge itself youre doing good approaching and departing the san mateo bridge in both directions and the Richmond Sandra fell bridge has been the one slow spot for us this morning as were doing our little tour of Traffic Cameras again nothing beyond the usual slowdowns as you make your way westbound on 5. 80 from richmond out towards marin county. Once you get through the toll plaza itself, its pretty smooth sailing. And then a final stop for you this morning, the Golden Gate Bridge, youre 1 one southbound right looking great. No problems in marin county, no issues as you make your way into San Francisco, the only note on the traffic front you should be aware of is the fact that if youre heading to tahoe this weekend. Highway 50 up at echo summit is completely shut down starting today and will be that way for the next 2 weeks theyre doing some replacement project work on the road so if youre trying to get to south lake tahoe, your best bet to 80 to the north shore and then down 89 or take highway 88 out towards kirkwood and then up 89 to south lake tahoe, but highway 50 is not therefore if youre trying to get the southlake the next 2 weeks and a big story in the east bay, the city of martinez decides to pave over the black lives matter mural that was painted on the street in front of the citys courthouse. Yeah that mural course is attracting a lot of local and National Attention since it was. Installed back in july properties, rain harvey on the story for us this morning, rain. And the morning while city officials are saying its a part of a larger city wide project and theyre going to know that early next month now like you mentioned a lot of conversation darren james i talked to residents and i cannot to martinez alas sign and many people were happy and lot of other people not so much so this is all back in july when this mural was first painted here a local black lives Matter Organization got together and they went to the scene asked for permission to paint a black lives matter on the street here that happened after white power flowers or white power flyers were found on a sidewalk nearby so all of this happened it came together they got the citys approval, the city approved this about a 100 volunteers came out. They know the black lives matter mural here. Now yet several incidents that took surrounding the mural being here the most famous one that garnered National Attention that man and woman. We do face it with paint the same day it was actually created here. Now the city says the local black lives matter Group Disaster relation to repaint it a few times but they were denied so whats next we know city Officials Say the next step says the paving project will help them transition from paint and pavement to policy and procedure. So what that means is if there are any groups that want to come out and different murals and signs theyre going to create a process where they can take that project to the city the city can look over that are proven say whether or not they are going to allow people to do that and then proceed, but thats going to be the next step in this entire process so were going to be tracking that and well let you know when it all happens theres no exact date when the mural is going to be removed here, but again like you mentioned topic of a lot of conversation so it will be interesting to see how we will feel about the latest steps in this mural but for now reporting your martinez reyna harvey kron 4 news its certainly a story we will be following thank you reena 6. 34 right now and this is a crazy story out of the East Livermore woman is suing. Do your part to lower the risk. Welcome back. It is 6. 45 right now and weve got another day that we can breathe easy. Yes luckily down the weekend. Well half and half right john. Yes, so the weekend starting great ending not so great as far as air quality goes. But today tomorrow will be good days to get out there in fact tomorrow more than just a good day to get outside, its going to be a beautiful one we do have some low clouds this morning as you can make out above the east bay here some brightness already working its way through and certainly less gray morning than what we had yesterday. Air quality or latest update showing you that yeah were looking good across the bay, another good air quality day focus on those sierra cities such as donner pass up into Yosemite National park where you see that deep read some of the reasons you 70s close this weekend air quality is suffering so much up there to our east up in the mountains, a light line of showers over in the Central Valley and the Santa Cruz Mountains east of san jose this morning bay area is remaining dry though the cold front thats pushing through not offering a city chance of rain although all surrounding areas are getting at the coast to offshore. The Central Valley, the Sierra Nevada in Northern California are all checking in with at least light sprinkles this morning. Were just getting some breezes from it as well as some cooler temperatures today. You can see cloud cover pushing through as well as those isolated brief showers up in the sierra foothills, always good to have a little bit of rain. So thats definitely a welcome sight. Its not amounting to much for any of our neighbors. Winds are calm this morning but they will pick up into the afternoon for both the north bay under east bay hills, todays daytime highs really going to be beautiful summer coolest weather we felt in a while 60s for coastal cities while 70s really across the rest of the bay area millbrae at 74 today, mid 70s in redwood city, san mateo Mountain View while in the south bay daytime highs will be also in the mid 70s, san jose at 75 santa clara, a very nice 74. Keep the 70s for the tri valley to Livermore Pleasanton dublin. All very close to 80 degrees not quite getting there today though on the creek and danville at 81 well oakland, a comfortable 72. If youre heading up to napa river vallejo look at the numbers that youre waking up to mid 70s, a really nice afternoon do expect while low 80s and pittsburgh fairfield and Vacaville Santa rosa through mill valley also keeping that trend of 70s going strong today will be our last day with temperatures that cool or last and only day yesterday was on the School Saturday and sunday we begin to see temperatures warming and air quality gradually getting worse by sunday and monday anticipate that well be back to those hazy skies, not your best day of the weekend to plan any outdoor activities. Tuesday fall kicks off and on a pretty seasonable though with highs ranging from the 60s up the coast to 80s inland. James all right john thank you, lets get a quick check of the bridges here as we look at traffic around the bay, nothing major out there slowing it down. And it certainly is a nice ride here on the westbound 80 right at the toll plaza. And once you get through the gates its about its excellent timing as you head into San Francisco. So far so good on that front and look at here the san mateo bridge actually looking a little better as well youre right on westbound 92, the right hand side there from hayward out to foster citys moving without any problems the only thing on the hayward side of the span of note is a couple cars got into an accident on southbound 80 just north of the west, a street offramp there both to the right hand shoulder, so theyre not talking any lanes but traffic is slowing down just a little bit is folks drive by and take a look from here, lets jump over to the Richmond Sandra fell bridge. This has been a problem spot all morning. Or at least in the last hour or so nothing out of the ordinary its just your average slow down as you make your way west bound 5. 80 through the toll plaza and out towards marin county once you get past the toll gate, youre moving just fine marin county into San Francisco. The one southbound right across the Golden Gate Bridge also moving without any incident as you can see youre making good time from one end of the span to the or whether traffic checks in a bit. Now lets get back to the headlines.
