Kaiser permanente. Thrive. For staying on top of breaking news tonight has several wildfires are burning across the north bay in the napa and sonoma counties as part of the glass fire which is what is now is this incident from yesterday now being referred to from cal fire. The initial blaze started over the weekend. The glass fire has now grown to more than 36,000 acres charredt that initial fire sparked 2 other fires, the points and fires in those fires and spread to Sonoma County. Its spreading awfully fast that we want to go now live to our first dan thorn. Is in santa rosa serving that the damaged and what can you tell us tonight. Jonothan vick him off of highway 12 a leader road and just behind me here is an adele state park where a lot of the fire is on still burning as you can see some of the plumes of smoke there could also step out of the way here and show you by looking in you can actually see some of the flames that are burning in this area here. This is the sort of terrain that firefighters have been having to deal with out here today. As the it seems as though the wind which was a big concern has sort of calmed down on here but the firefight still again you can see the smoke is billowing up from the state park this is on eastern side rather the western side of highway 12. Closer to the santa rosa as were out here right now looking at some of the damage weve seen that there are charged feels that there are. Businesses out here that have also been damage. Weve also been wineries out here that have also been dealing with issues as we were also looking at some homes in the oakmont area some destroyed there some walking away or rather getting away unscathed so that was at least helpful situation in terms of this firefight so firefighters about here have been out here making some pretty Good Progress on some of the areas where there have been homes. However, not all of them are getting away not unscathed weve also been surveying fields out here that have also been charged up and theres some spot fires and mopped up areas that need to be taking care went up a los alamos road which is sort of a treacherous situation right now because it requires you going all the way up hillside theres a lot of downed power lines there theres also a lot of down rocks. Spoke with a couple that was concerned about how theyre on home is up there they lost several homes already in the tubbs fire and now theyre concerned the one man childhood home his mother was hoping to see if she did get more information but pg e crews were up taking a look at some of those lines they are not live wires because the powers been shot in this area. But firefighters were warning people to not go into some of these areas where it is dangerous for people to get in there so at this time, heed the warnings out there listen to what firefighters are telling you to do they are continuing to work out here as for the Current Conditions in this area. Were still dealing some ash that is sort of raining down from above. But the wind has certainly come down. They can jonathan. All right along ifour a number of folks out in that area dan thank you. Meanwhile Evacuation Orders and warnings changing by the minute literally for folks napa and sonoma counties are corporate ken wayne continues our Live Team Coverage and now he joins us now from the newsroom with the latest on those affected areas ken Vickie Johnson all of calistoga has now been evacuated, lets show you on the map whats for a while this half of the citys south of highway east of highway 29 in calistoga was under Evacuation Orders now its entire community as we zoom in here. This is calistoga downtown and you 2 different shades of blue, but essentially it means both blues means that this is a mandatory evacuation for the more than 5,000 people who live in the small but very popular tourist town of calistoga if we head down a highway 29 towards saint you can see just how close the fire is burning to the town and all of red circles indicate road closures thank shun warren just for neighborhood this is mandatory here on the west side mandatory here on the east side of saint then we hop over to the other map showing whats going on in Sonoma County huge says mandatory evacuation or order is this 100 square miles this is a large area here and heres downtown santa rosa. If you head east on highway 12. By an adele state park where our dan thorn was right in this area. Thats for the back in back tuition. Order is in effect right here on highway 12 all the way down to arnold drive. Past oakmont as youre heading in toward kenwood so vast areas of napa and sonoma counties shut down and other people on standby, getting ready to leave. Thank you. Thank you cant cheat hard to imagine the whole town of calistoga just told to evacuate. Were crossing our fingers looks like the weather might be on our side does starting at least tomorrow morning. What do you say yeah. I think weve seen some changes this afternoon much needed changes but not before we had another round of some record breaking heat outside some strong gusty offshore winds that are typical this time of year today we had a high of a 101 city record in san jose 96 record downtown oakland 98 time to record a redwood City Temperatures go International Airport record of 96 degrees. But all around the bay area certainly toasty temperatures it was 94 downtown San Francisco before the sea breeze kicked in 901 in san jose 98 in livermore 99 in concord 89 degrees. So when you get those offshore winds those downslope winds as that air sinks it tends to arise in temperature and thats exactly what we saw today little hazy out there right now over San Francisco and certainly that will be concerned in the coming that smoke is the win begins decrease. Thats going allow lot of that smoke to filter down closer to the ground. So certainly watching out for very poor air quality in the north bay. This is probably the best news of all check out the Golden Gate Bridge all that fog has moved back on shore. So thats a sign that the region is finally breaking down, but it is going to be slow to weaken this a very dominant ridge of High Pressure so i think were looking at some hot temperatures again least inland for tomorrow. Winds of course been the big concern. Boy just horrible wind conditions, those offshore winds 30 some 50 mile an hour gusts in the north bay, those are now gone were seeing more of a sea breeze kicking in to 10 Miles Per Hour in a San Francisco you watch overnight tonight. Those winds calm down even further calm in the San Francisco, light winds in the north bay and even the influx of some of that moisture into the santa rosa area bring the humidity way up there will be a sea breeze kicking in by tomorrow afternoon but again it doesnt look like those strong northerly winds are going to make return anytime too soon just more of a breeze still that being said weve got red flag warnings continuing and the north bay and the east bay until 9 oclock tonight looks like they will be brought down after that. But the firefighters got a long way to go before this fire has finally come to an end all right lawrence we continue to follow the latest on these wildfires burning in sonoma and napa counties, thousands of acres have burned and thousands of people. Are being forced to evacuatd their homes. We and welcome back to our coverage of the wine country wildfires nearly 12,000 people in napa county are under Evacuation Order or a warning tonight kron fours Maureen Kelly got a chance to talk with some folks who are forced to flee from the flames at a local evacuation center. Behind me you can see a long line of people outside the Crosswalk Community church. These are people who are waiting to get a Hotel Voucher because theyve been forced to flee their homes. I spoke to some this morning who saw the flames very close to their front doors. It was just so much it was a great and i was like thats scary the 15 yearold saint helene a resident says this was the view outside her front door of her apartment complex her family grab their belongings and fled around 02 00am this morning. Now theyre waiting with many others here at the Crosswalk Community churches county workers coordinating with the Red Cross Work to get them a Hotel Voucher hell kind of like scared and mike. They feel emotional because you dont know whats going to happen, you know what could happen like in the next hour words you dont know whats going on many people showing up here are bringing supplies for the evacuees even those. Who were forced to leave their homes themselves. Its nice to see the Community Coming together in times like this, i mean you know is pretty close just a few weeks ago and as of last week. Were kind of getting blue skies again and were like you know its coming going down now and it just shows that you can never really. Planned for anything you know you have to be ready to adjust and adapt to any moment and not so we did and now were just trying use our resources to help the Greater Community and people may not have as many resources you do. The county says several nonprofits are collaborating to help the evacuees but because of coronavirus they really only want to be accepting cash and gift cards they will accept those here at the Crosswalk Community church as well as a few other locations as well as online we posted a link on our website kron 4 dot com. Maureen kelly kron 4 news. The bus fire is burning in the north bay and continuing to grow in size now more than 36,000 acres. Its also threatening more than 8,000 structures. Gov forcing on top of breaking news, this monday at 6 oclock as we continue to follow the glass fire which is scorching parts of napa and sonoma counties tonight and inching very closer to santa the fire sparked yesterday morning which triggered 2 additional fires together the fires make up what theyre calling the glass. Fire complex and so far that fire has burned through more than 36,000 acres, it is 0 contained tonight with more than 8500 structures that are still being threatened more than 50,000 people have been evacuated so far a state senator bill dodd of napa has been getting a close look at some of the areas hardest hit by these wildfires that the county sheriff giving him a chilling tour this morning. The senator talking with kron fours Catherine Heenan as the tour had just wrapped up catherine. Yeah well he has seen a lot before including 2017, but. This morning he was on the same in places most reporters have not reached it. He was the first to tell us for example about not only the homes being lost. But what happened to some of napa countys high end resort, he called much of what he saw shocking. You know it is its very hard from the standpoint just curious street names then trying to you know pull back from your grade. The visuals you know what else is there and what you get there and you re, still in all the blanks, he was shocking you youre giving me some of the early details that i havent heard before. About high end resort. What are you seeing in terms of resorts that have been damaged or lost. Well one that was particularly stark was house over choose beautiful beautiful. High you know to the east of silverado trail. Was just completely devastated. Nothing standing, its really nothing left nothing of value. It was just you know really really stark we did get it saw a number of homes in the hills up around better would resort which got hit pretty badly. They were able to say you know the there a reception area clubhouse that many many other units enforced. Were gone in many many of the homes up in the hills in and around. No matter what it could last as well. The senator referring to the calistoga ranch, whats left of it as a moonscape at one point as for what we have learned from the wildfires of 2017 overall dodd says the evacuations did seem to go at least somewhat faster and more smoothly in these latest fires, the key and jonathan. Catherine thank you meanwhile wildfire smoke from the glass fire is impacting the air quality here in the bay area maybe youve already noticed our conference has made you talk to a meteorologist from the air Quality Management district 4. Details on the critical weather conditions. The bay area air Quality Management district has extended the spare the air alert through friday due to wildfire smoke from the glass fire in napa and sonoma counties. The reason we wanted to extend it through the week. And because were going to continue to have these really warm temperatures bay area air Quality Management district meteorologist eric label says i you with it shows a really good to you. The fires that were seeing across the reason one of things we were afraid at least i was because im a forecaster last week. And i was the critical fire weather conditions exacerbating the other fires that have really contained. One of things that we were afraid of it actually occurred because the weather so that too much of that smoke across the north bay. And so thats why the north face experiencing much of during air quality moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups to on health and even some pockets of areas across the north bay. Air Quality Management district officials advise bay area residents to protect their health staying indoors if possible even if the air outside appears not to be harmful often times. We can go outside and we cant you cant smell it and people dont realize that the body actually its used to smell can be also as well so and some people during spare the air alerts wood burning burning manufactured fire logs or other solid fuel is prohibited. Zeke menu. Kron 4 news. Fires record breaking heat, dangerous conditions around the bay area just how long and welcome we want to go now to a crime for chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow if i look at the weather. Yeah guys what we need is a good rain event unfortunately we usually dont get that. Its about the 3rd 43rd week in october right now dont see anything on the horizon. Right now the winds have changed direction. Thats probably the best news weve had all day instead of getting that strong north northeasterly wind that offshore wind. Now those winds are coming the west and the south so that will bring with it more moisture onshore pushing the fire back into the hills and elise slowing it down a little bit so hopefully firefighters get a whole that along with that the fog and low clouds have moved in along the coastline, some that begin to push inside the bay. Thats a sign of that he wave coming to an end and it was a record breaker. Again today or quality certainly going to suffer around the bay area for tomorrow looking to poor air quality of course in and around the fire law that smoke now as those winds subside is going to mix down to the surface so be careful with that especially in the north bay. Equality man not as good inside the bay tomorrow and also the east bay probably get enough of a westerly wind along the coastline to keep that air pretty fresh up toward the beaches temperatures tomorrow still be the hot side inland, youre still looking at 90s in the interior valleys will see a lot of inside the bay and some 60s along the coastline, the next few days slowly watching those temperatures coming down but staying hot all the way through about friday finally cooling down those temperatures as we head into next weekend guys lawrence and if youre watching us on the new kron on app a full hour of news is next a dozen here for kron 4 news at 6 oclock well see you back here on air tonight for kron 4 news at 8.
