And because were going to continue to have these really warm temperatures bay area air Quality Management district meteorologist eric label says on it shows a really good to you. The fires that were seeing across the reason one of those we were afraid of at least i was because im the forecaster last week. And i was the critical fire weather conditions exacerbating the other fires that have really contained. One of things that we were afraid of it actually occurred because the weather so that too much of that smoke across the north bay. And so thats why the north face experiencing much of that air quality moderate to unhealthy for sensitive groups to on health and even some park is a very unhealthy across the north bay. Air Quality Management district officials advise bay area residents to protect their health staying indoors if possible even if the air outside appears not to be harmful often times. We can go outside and we cant you cant smell it and people dont realize that the body actually its used to smell can be also as well so and some people way. During spare the air alerts wood burning burning manufactured fire logs or other solid fuel is prohibited. Zeke menu. Kron 4 all right with more on the critical weather conditions and the poor air quality that were facing today, lets check in with meteorologist john travel who has an update good morning john yeah guys because we definitely saw an impact from the air quality yesterday could smell the smoke a little bit. As you are venturing outside of course that smoke making its way down from the glass complex burning in the north bay skies are clear enough this morning, especially for San Francisco or a sea breeze, the swept in overnight helping to clean up here along coastal areas you notice right along the coastline air quality is actually hanging out pretty decently you dont have to fed had very far inland in the north bay though before you see it deteriorating and deteriorating fast around Santa Rosa Petaluma even down to novato and over into napa some of our very ports even worst of conditions as that smoke really settles in for north bay and east bay areas, some of our coastal spots aided by a push of cool ocean air that has really helped push out a little bit of that smoke that had settled a bit coast closer to the coast. So the glass incident still surrounded by winds that are present but not near as breezy as yesterday looking outside at wind speeds right now in the vicinity of the blaze is a significantly. Calmer start to the morning which is definitely a nice thing to be talking about winds romain overall com or through the course of the day today and its a reversal of wind direction to yesterday. It was strong dry winds from the north and east today, most winds are pushing through the golden gate on shore and thats cool ocean air thats going to be resulting in a noticeably cooler afternoon. Also in noticeably less dry afternoon to those bone dry conditions with low humidity yesterday, not as much of a factor today so fire conditions are improved for your tuesday, which is a welcome welcome sight. 60s 70s, even for pittsburgh for your morning temperatures. Well a few 50s right along the coastline. Cloverdale lot cooler than your upper 80s yesterday lena 2 down from the 80s to start your monday morning yesterday to just the 60s this morning. So you see overall talking about this forecast today, big improvements from where we were yesterday as far as fire weather goes. And even a touch of a cooler afternoon ahead of us daytime highs today at our warmest mostly just in the upper 80s get to more about that still to come. Robin all right, thank you john lets check in on the traffic folks after. Welcome back everyone, a record level of dry vegetation is fueling the glass fire in napa and sonoma counties and thats raising alarms in the south bay where the fuel drying out faster than ever before kron fours rob fladeboe reports. In parts of the Santa Cruz Mountains and elsewhere across Northern California is a tinderbox theres all kinds of dead brush and grass, but even the still green or life ewells looked dead. Pine bough that should feel little spongy feels more like sandpaper live fuel moisture levels are at an alltime low in some areas, jose state Fire Weather Research centers professor Craig Clements the fuel moisture content. Of these right now are our record low. And that has to do with the fact that we had this drought year. I mean we had a low rain near this past winter and san jose states mobile weather lab is currently analyzing Data Collected from 2017 devastating tubbs fire. There are striking similarities. Wind heat topography and whats known as spotting where members are blowing down wind starting spot fires in the dried out and easily ignite abul brush and grass because of all the amount of poverty when you get this wind that blows. Perpendicular to the mountain ranges causes whats called downslope wind starting get real strong winds and very isolated locations and when that happens. You got really strong winds pushing these fire fronts its not just the north bay clemens and his team have been measuring live fuel moisture in the Santa Cruz Mountains and other fire prone areas across the state. Many areas are seeing fuel moisture levels that would not normally be seen until well into october britain, the core of our fire season, you know october is usually the month where we have the lowest fuel moistures in the strongest winds in terms of offshore wind events. And so we get a couple more of these events its going to be a really challenging wallet. Fans, the flames, the wind and heat even in the absence of fire makes that fuel dry out that much faster in the Santa Cruz Mountains rob fladeboe kron 4 news. And john and i were just talking about the conditions that the firefighters are dealing in the north bay and john youre saying that conditions are actually improving and the winds are starting to calm down a little bit thats good news. Yeah, those offshore winds that devastating impact that they often have this time of year starting to come down now so nice to at least be out of the woods in that regard. Still hot though, and still pretty dry as rob was noticing in a story we have lancy of dry vegetation and still some really hot temperatures ahead of us today so not out of the woods but improved for sure for your tuesday. Looking outside from berkeley here you can see the moon up above a little bit of the fog that a stream back in the bay overnight that pushed in by a gentle sea breeze thats helped to replace the dry offshore winds that were so noticeable yesterday morning at this time to notice a little bit of fog this morning as youre getting outside, and also a little bit of a cooler feel and not just a little bit of a cooler feel way cooler for the north bay where those hot dry winds have relaxed right now wind speeds around the vicinity of the glass fire, nice and calm compared to yesterday we had winds gusting as high as 50 Miles Per Hour yesterday. This morning, its more so 5 to 15 Miles Per Hour future cast of wind gust shows you that we will remain pretty calm today. And if any direction of wind speed is noticeable its right from the coast which has pushed moist air into the bay, instead of that hot dryer so nice to be trading those winds in today that wind is also helping air quality right along the coastline. Although there are pockets where it is not good and not get it all very pour to our worst conditions up in portions of sonoma are in. And then napa. Contra costa and solano counties so be mindful of that as venture outside weve got a lot of smoke thats been put up and has settled down in pockets across the bay this morning, 60s and 70s for your daytime highs in San Francisco as well as elsewhere right along the coast today while 70s and 80s for most of our bayside areas noticeably cooler, especially right along the bay and the coast as that a sea breeze pushes in helping to result in a sense of relief. San jose 92 degrees for your high today, definitely better than your upper 90s yesterday while falling from the triple digits in the tri valley back to the mid to upper 90s. Oakland, 82 you had midnineties yesterday concord in walnut creek at 98 degrees each while in the north bay, even falling back into the 90s no triple digits on your 4 zone forecast today and that is something we are all welcoming with open arms now tomorrow, i do anticipate a couple of triple digits to return, not super widespread though thursday and friday we see temperatures declining it again and that sets us up for an even cooler weekend yet with highs only in the upper 80s at our warmest by saturday and sunday to you do see signs of relief already in the forecast today and those signs of relief only continue ahead of us so this is definitely good news. Robin all right and we do need some good news. Thank you john were checking in on traffic yes we have more good news and traffic to re starting off hot spot free and thats a great way to start your morning drive, especially into San Francisco. We know our bridges can be quite busy. Toward the latter part of the morning commute. Thats why we always encourage you to get out there early be an early bird. Its ok you dont have to do with the traffic. Its pretty much smooth across upper deck all the way through downtown San Francisco under 10 minutes right now for your drive times so pretty quick and its not going to stay that way so get out there now were off to 92 and the last time we checked wasnt as crowded now we have some more folks packing up and rolling over to the peninsula we see more tell lights here west of the toll plaza but were doing fine, everybody is behaving trouble spots here to foster city or san matteo well check more bridges coming up a little bit later.
