Kron fours Tiffany Justice live for us now in San Francisco with more on what these educators are demanding and how the district is responding. Thanks for joining us. Tiffany. Yes, educators with the union will be holding their first 2 strike authorization vote starting at 4 oclock. This afternoon. I spoke with the union president. She tells me that this is not how she wanted negotiations ago, claiming that the district is forcing their hand. So were anticipating our 6,000 members to roll through 6,000 teachers convening at Balboa High School wednesday. Each member of the union, united educators of San Francisco will cast their vote. On whether or not they want to go on strike. And so we have delayed and delayed long enough from San Francisco, unified management. And our membership has had enough and the district since march has rejected our proposals outright and insisted that it doesnt have the capacity to do what weve asked tonights vote will determine whether or not the president can even call for a strike if approved a second vote then takes place to determine if educators will strike. When and for how long a strike could leave the districts 123 schools and some 50,000 students in limbo. We absolutely do not want to go on strike or 2 to impact our students negatively is why we bargain at night. The union is demanding higher pay and smaller class sizes. The 2 sides have been trying to negotiate a new twoyear contract for the past year. The School District not responding directly to our request for comment on tonights vote. And the last time teachers in the Francisco Unified School District went on strike was back in 19. 79 reporting live to Justice Department. Tiffany, thank you. And we could see from tiffany shot there. Its a little windy out there in the city of San Francisco right now. Its a Beautiful Day as well. Meteorologist kyla grogan tracking the forecast for us right now. Like i love hate. She looked like she had the fan honor. But in fact, no, it is a little bit of when the start to kick up. Were going to be a bit of a northwesterly flow already happening in many spots. You can see some of the trees starting to blow around in the breeze here on the embarcadero. And as you look at sfo right now about 20 Miles Per Hour, but notice those areas in red that are right along the coast. Thats where the wind is really starting to kick right now. You can see that as we kind of zoom in here to point rays are there. 25 mile per hour gusts right barnaby at 19 if were going to bring it down towards peninsula in Half Moon Bay pillar point is about 24 Miles Per Hour. You see another one 18. So thats just kind of the beginning of what were going to get into as we get throughout the afternoon with this wind. So just be aware if youre headed outside, i know i like sunglasses on get to him because it keeps kind of the dust are getting in your eyes. But heres a look at stormtracker 4 showing that any Stormy Weather staying well to our north. It really is just a bit breezy for us today. Nice blue skies out there and the temperatures pretty nice, although below average. So its 66 in San Francisco, some nice low 70s in the inner east bay down in the south bay as well and north bay, you can see the highest number if theres napa at about 74. So future wind gusts. Just to show you how this is going to play out as we get into our evening, theyre going to keep picking up. And again, you see, particularly from the north bay, right on down into the peninsula whero some of those higher numbers are. Having said that, you know, cocker looking out for 20 Miles Per Hour gusts as well. This we get to about 06 45pm tonight. Were going to see it ramp down a little bit get into the overnight hours. But notice tomorrow morning, then we get this northerly flow that is happening inland places like i was peak and that is offshore wind. So im saying this just to remind you that we are in fire season. And even though weve got a little rain here and there were doing pretty well, just make sure youre being fire safe over the next 24 hours as we have some of this wind roll through. Back to you. Thank you so much. Tonights Powerball Jackpot is an estimated 1. 7, 3 billion dollars. That number is growing. And just to put that into perspective. After that, he says he wants a meeting with the president to discuss plans to secure the border. Scalias can only to lose 4 votes on the house floor in order to win the speakership. That vote was supposed to take place this afternoon but has since been postponed. For now in washington, Raquel Martin, back to you. Some developing news from the east bay, the search for a new Oakland Police chief keeps getting a little bit more complicated a committee thats part of the Oakland Police Commission Says it has narrowed down a list new candidates to 7 people. It does include the former police chief armstrong. But that committee did not follow the proper process and the official finalists have not yet been determined and it did turn out that the committee jumped the gun by releasing a list of candidates because the application process isnt even over yet. The candidates havent even been interviewed. Regina jackson is on the Oakland Police commission, but is not part of the committee that released the finalists. And shes very critical of the committees process. I do not know how you can come up with final candidates before the end of an application process. That is election. The application deadline is not until friday. Then an executive search firm will forward the names to the Police Commission and then the commissioners will conduct interviews and hold a town hall meeting before submitting a list. At least the top 3 choices to the mayor. So the question remains this afternoon. If armstrong does end up as one of the Police Commissions top candidates, who would mayor sheng thao who fired him, which she rehire him. Obviously, thats something watching. Were also watching the weather with this live look outside of the cruise ship here in San Francisco in the flags showing us how windy and breezy it is that there right now, kyla grogan with a look at the very sunny forecast for today. Theyre still cup. Yeah. This is the rain, though. There are a few and weve been having that right. And its not big day loses its like little bit of drizzle here or there. All of that helps us during fire season. Right now, it looks a little hazy we look a little bit of a distance there in San Francisco. Want to talk about the rain that we got last night. It wasnt a whole lot right, but it does help to keep some of our brush that is out there. Thats very dry. Maybe not quite as dry as it was. We got a little over a 10th of an inch point raise mill valley just under that law. Honda 7, 1, 100 get the idea. It wasnt a lot of rain. Just a trace at the Oakland Airport than at the airport, too. That is giving way to blue skies yet again. And you can see as we take a look at the flag over here, the wind is definitely starting to kick and were going to see that throughout the night tonight. As i mentioned, mostly clear skies tonight. Those other than the wind is going to be relatively quiet. We do have a little shot of rain friday night to saturday. It looks like at mote might be more of a north bay thing than anything else. Again, not a whole lot of rain and then maybe another slight chance on monday. Temperatures right now we are cool. We are below average. Kind of nice. 66 in San Francisco are looking at some nice low 70s as we head inland. We should be about 80 degrees this time of year. Just to give you an idea of kind of where we are and how cool we are. So i wanted to look through futurecast and show you the systems, the kind of keep rolling right . They come towards us and then they start to fall apart a bit. So this is thursday evening. You start to see a few clouds rolling into the bay area friday. By the time we get later into the day. Thats when this next system is trying to bring a few showers. You see what i mean. Its it kind of falls apart. It doesnt really keep itself together enough to give us anything significant. Having said that, we get maybe a little drizzle. Maybe we get a little bit of a wedding of some of those drier grasses and things that are out so thats a good thing for us because why . Because were still very much in fire season. And you can see thankfully on the west coast, our numbers are 1, 2, 3, as far as fire risk. This kind of takes into account how dry we are, the wind that were experiencing and you want those numbers to be low, meaning less danger. Having said that with the wind kind of happening in the next 24 hours, please be very careful. Help of firefighters out by being smart about it. You can see as we head towards the weekend that chance of showers overnight saturday into sunday. Back to you. Thank you so much. The United Auto Workers strike is now in its 4th weekend.
