Showing the orange areas shaded there. Thats where wildfires could easily spark and spread. The warning includes many areas at Higher Elevations across the bay area as well as large parts of sonoma and napa counties. Dry winds are predicted to start at 5 oclock tomorrow morning. Chief meteorologist Lawrence Karnow joining us now with what more we can expect. Lawrence, this goes through sunday correct. Yes, sure doesnt kind of strange you. Go outside right now. Many places is very calm. But really the atmosphere. Really just setting itself up the offshore wind event going to be kicking in as we head throughout the day. Tomorrow. Skies are nice and clear outside around the bay area and were getting ready for a major wind event here in the bay area. The strongest weve seen so far this season. All right. Heres a map showing you some black lines. Those are called iso bars. Those are lines of equal pressure. The for their part, the less strong, the winds, the closer they get together, the stronger the winds. Now you watch as we head through time here we get into tomorrow afternoon, all of a sudden those isobar start to tighten up the winds get gusty outside starting tomorrow afternoon and then they really tighten up by early in the morning on sunday. Thats when well likely see the strongest winds around the bay area and then finally relax and again, but not till sunday afternoon. So these winds are going to be whipping as we head toward tomorrow afternoon, starting out of the north bay, then spreading across the bay area overnight on sunday night early into sunday morning. Winds gusting as high as 50 to 60 Miles Per Hour across some of the ridge tops. Kron fours dan thorn is and mill valley tonight where residents and fire crews are preparing for that red flag warning. Marin county firefighters tell us the most important thing for residents is to be ready this weekend. All of Marion County will be under red flag warning beginning on saturday. And the message is to be smart and to take this seriously. Marin county fire officials warn a simple spark could become a major wildfire this weekend. Gusty winds and dry brush combined with low humidity are making for critical fire conditions and those impacts are that a fire does it will spread faster. With potential rapid rate of spread. Bret mctigue battalion chief with marin county fire says residents should have a go bag ready. Escape routes identified and also be signed up for local emergency alerts. Its just up to everyone that lives in fire prone communities to be ready. Some residents in mill valley say Emergency Preparedness is second nature, but i think were prepared for anything. You know, southern marin, fire department. You know, we have we have good people that work for the city of novell. It. Emergency routes out of something would where we have plans to mitigate any risk said hazardous areas like mount tam, the watershed will be closed to cars until the red flag warning is no longer in effect. Marin county fire crews say its also important to avoid using barbecues are fire pits or using any flames outdoors. Do not use any power tools or mowers. Keep cars off of dry grass or vegetation and properly throw away cigarettes. Fire officials are urging to use extreme caution throughout this weekend. This is our early alert to the public that did. This is a serious situation. Fire agencies throughout marin county will be up staffing this weekend. They recommend signing up are in for emergency notifications. In case one happens in mill valley. The epicenter was reported in eastern Santa Clara County near joseph, grant county park. That one happened just about 2 hours from the first quake. Lots of people felt that one live look at sfo tonight. It was the epicenter of that quake. 3. 7 magnitude hitting just after 6. 30. This evening. Tonight we did ask the head of the shake alert system if this leads the usgs to believe there could be a larger quake coming. We have any order of 50 earthquakes a day in california. So these magnitude 4 in this case, maggie, to threepointseven earthquakes are very common. And so we see these all the time. Of course, were always watching. Were always looking for these events to see what they might lead to. But really, this is just your regular garden variety earthquake in california. The entire state is earthquake country. So thats why we always want people to be vigilant to know what they do if they feel shaking or if they get an alert drop cover and hold on. Robert degroot says the shake alert system worked as it should detecting the quake before it struck. But the reason that you didnt get a notification on your phone is because the quake has to be at least a 4. 5 to activate it to sign up, to get alerts. You can go to shake alert, dot org. Another big story weve been following the manhunt for a mass killer is over tonight in maine following a nearly 48 hours search that put parts of the state on lockdown. Police confirming the man who killed 18 people wednesday night turned the gun on himself. Robert card is dead. Investigators announced this evening 40 yearold robert card was found shot in the head in the woods near the river in lisbon, maine. Thats about 9 miles from the shootings and near where his car was found. Like many people. Im breathing a sigh of relief. Tonight knowing that robert card, theres no longer a threat to anyone. Jason walizada of antioch was arrested this week in connection to the shooting. He was being held on a 3. 5 Million Dollars bond and was released on bail sometime today. According to supervisor Hillary Ronen starting next month street vending with or without a permit. Will be prohibited in that area because of how dangerous conditions have become. I just cant tell you how careful you need to be this weekend with everything that you do. Dont get a spark that might start a fire. Just dangerous, windy conditions around the bay area. Some very dry. Were talking about the relative humidity dropping down, maybe into the teens, maybe even into the Single Digits as we head in towards sunday, dry out there right now. It is clear. Also, will red flag warnings going up for much of the bay area all the way along the coastline santa cruz mountains, mateo county. The east bay, the diablo range, the oakland hills, the north were looking into a much of the bay area under red flag warning starting on saturday, continuing into sunday. Heres a forecast model showing you when we expect some of the fire conditions develop. Look around noon tomorrow. You see starting to come in the north bay start to see some yellow, some orange beginning to show up here out of the sacramento valley, the north bay mountains going to start to see that. Then its going start to spread across the bay area overnight saturday night into sunday. You see the pockets of red here. That is some extreme fire conditions possibly over some the mountain ridges of the north and parts of the east bay, too. But still any fire thats Getting Started under these conditions going to be dangerous and then it looks like theyll receive specially late in the day after sunday afternoon around 2 oclock or so. Things begin to calm down. But theres going to be a period there that the winds are going to be really with the humidity, very low and very dangerous fire conditions. Now were talking about some icy conditions overnight tonight, sobre showing up in the north bay valleys overnight lows in the 30s around there. And thats going to be a cold start your day. And then those winds will start to ramp up in the afternoon temperatures tomorrow. Lots of 60s in the San Francisco coast side. Your 50s and some 60s breezy but becoming windy over the mountain tops working our way down the peninsula. 70 degrees in san woodside. Lot of 60s and 70s tomorrow afternoon, the south bay east bay, windy over the mountain top, the diablo range, the oakland hills. Those winds really ramping up into the afternoon, especially in the north bay. Those will be the windiest conditions. We could see 50 and 60 mile an hour gusts there. Those winds continue through saturday and sunday. Then as we get into halloween, it looks like just partly cloudy skies and warmer weather. But it should be dry. Thanks, lauren. Now fish and Wildlife State officials are delaying the start of crabbing season from Half Moon Bay up to the oregon border. The season is expected to start on november 15th. Now it wont start until at least december 1st. They say this delays going actually protect the migrating humpback whales from getting caught up in the fishing traps. Bay area.
