A 5 yearold boy has died after he drowned in the back of a home on Bethel Island just outside of oakley. This is according to the Contra Costa CountySheriffs Department who responded to the incident friday afternoon. Neighbors tell us the boy was visiting family kron fours jack moment. Reports. Afternoon on friday Contra Costa County, First Responders rushed to Bethel Island. Reports of a 5 yearold drowned in Bethel Island. We had a young male drowned. Landing over there. John sullivan, a neighbor says each of these homes has a dock news hitting close to his home. He says this tragedy was praying for you know, it didnt work youre the rescuers did the best they could. Neighbors tell us the boy was visiting relatives in the complex and fell off the dock in the back of the home. So neighbors say a drowning like what happened here on friday is really uncommon. Some of them have been living here for years and say theyve never seen anything like it. But they also said at the same time, water safety is at the top of mind spreading sand words of advice for people who have boats just like this one. Im very sad about it. Hearing about it that that breaks my heart. Darlene weaver has lived here for 3 years and says shes never heard of a drowning in this community until now. Im not blaming the parent, you shows just dont so quickly, right . So accidents happen. Thats why theyre caught this. Lot these so important weaver says her family are all experienced swimmers but make sure they all wear life vests. You know, were in the get down to it without investment has more. Crews in Placer County responding to reports of a woman would allegedly fell in the American River this weekend, according to state parks and recreations authorities, were able to find the woman in the water earlier this afternoon. Unfortunately, Officials Say she died from her injuries. Investigation remains ongoing. The body of a mother who went missing days ago has been recovered in the San Joaquin River on thursday. Stanislaw county deputies responded to a call of several people in the water drowning in the San Joaquin River at fishermans bend, 30 yearold brenda duran had jumped in the water to save her 11 yearold daughter who began to struggle in the water. Her daughter who was able to get. Out safely. But durant did not resurface saturday. Volunteers helping with the search recovered her body in the river just outside of the town of newman. In the wake of this tragedy, this the stanislaw county Sheriffs Office is reminding people to always wear a life jacket. Hundreds of people gathering in San Francisco to celebrate the life of reverend Cecil Williams. Reverend williams was known for his work as a civil rights and lgbtq activists. He died last month at the age of 94. He cofounded glide with his late wife and devoted his life to activism. This is 11 feet right the he passed away on april 22nd in his home. His daughter kimberly shared what he was like in his final hours. I want everyone to know she was radiant and full of and like that day for more than 60 years, the reverend fought for civil rights and champion of the Lgbtq Community. Whether that the People Living on the street or notable politicians like congresswoman barbara lee. I sat right over there in 3rd probably the 3rd sing and every sunday. Reverend williams helped me through some very challenging, very challenging personal times as well as former San Francisco mayor willie brown, Vice PresidentKamala Harris and political activists, professor angela davis those who under until lgbt community. Political activists like myself, williams first came to San Franciscos tenderloin neighborhood in 1963. To help run glide, church and glide foundation. Quickly after he made the brave decision to make the church inclusive to all. When he stood up for folks in the Lgbtq Community to get rid of the stigma. And this city that did not embrace this Community Williams and his late wife, janice america, tony, expanded glide to become what it is today. A safe haven providing food and services to thousands of people a year that the crack epidemic israel and streets. You know, engaging the public 6 no ha ve he never shied away from those new issue he wasnt going to the celebration of life for williams was filled with music, love, laughter and tears. He put people on my past. To show me the way. To be out there on the streets. That was a product of my environment. A spokesperson from the Oakland Fire Department says it was caused by a lithium battery at the port video from the citizen app showing a large cloud of smoke over the San Francisco bay around crews got the fire under control. The state parks say prescribed burns depend on the weather and their conditions. As the temperatures start warming up. Cal osha wants to help protect farm workers from heat illness. Thats why the agency is partnering with organizations in the Central Valley to increase heat illness prevention farm workers received new u n 95 mask to protect themselves from valley fever and potential wildfire. Smoke experts also warned about the dangers that can come with heat related illnesses. Officials also shared farm Worker Rights and what necessities are needed while working in the heat. Every year in california, workers have died from heat illness. So todays event is to try to prevent anybody from dying or getting sick from heat illness. A local family is giving back in creating a legacy in the Health Care Field after having their lives change through a free program for mothers by the San FranciscoHealth Department kron fours lezla gooden spoke with the family and has the story. Judy lopez is a San Francisco native and has been a practicing nurse for over a decade. The mother to says it was a calling to get back and to help others. As a young child, i saw nurses in their uniforms and scrubs as heroes. And i still feel the same way today. While pregnant with her second son, julian, she ended up having him prematurely little does she know this was going to change her personal and professional life for ever. I found myself in the most wonderful time of my life. And the social worker and everyone was supporting me at the hospital, then realized i could benefit from having a Service Called field Home Visiting program where the nurse comes directly to your home. Its a free voluntary program. And with that guidance, i was able to feel. Support the support she received came from a free program from others through the San Francisco department of Public Health. She says the experience helped her navigate having a preemie and gave her the skills she would later use. Were learning different modalities like how can i keep him healthy and then still make sure that i was to keep myself healthy. And i was also and agree being stay. I had lost my mom that year. So it was a lot on my plate. But i did know that with a nurse coming to the home in my sacred space, my humble home that i felt supported. Jenny, so inspired by the experience later became a Public Health nurse herself and didnt forget the program that poured into her. Actually, the first job that i was hired for was with maternal child adolescent health, the same Home Visiting program that serves me in my most vulnerable time. So for me, it was such a gift and that little boy who was once a preemie in her lap. While she studied to become a nurse is now. 22 and just finished his first semester in nursing school. So i think definitely being in her footsteps is something that i a. Its something and take pride in for sure. And i know that she, you know, loves and is something that we just kind of cherish. Summer is all about fun in the sun with friends and going to summer camp is a huge part of that yet for so many others that opportunity is out of reach. But camp made for me is looking to change that the nonprofit wants to give the most underfunded communities. The experience of camp to meet this goal. Theyre looking for volunteers, counselors and donors to support their efforts. We heard from the codirectors on what theyre hoping to give kids this summer. Youll notice especially after that heat spike, we saw late last week friday we 90s, the first 90s of the season and San Francisco was 80 degrees. And we havent seen that since october. So here now, 56 degrees as the forecast high for tomorrow. 58 in Half Moon Bay and a 66 in mill valley. Low 70s for you in santa rosa. 82 in livermore and conquered will be to the mid 70s as well. 81 in morgan hill and 75 for you in san jose. So you much cooler than the last couple of days and we will be cooling down gradually. So here is that 7 day outlook. So we will be holding on to the 80s for inland communities. As you could see, 70s by the bay upper 50s and 60s by the coast. Now after wednesday. So about late week here, you notice that transition will be cooling down to the 70s and 60s around that region.
