Were getting our first look at the forecast right now with a live look outside at a sunny shot here showing us. But it looks like along the embarcadero looking out towards the bay bridge. Its quite a different story. Other spots in the bay area hog today. We have meteorologist kyla grogan. Yeah. All those details looks other heavily behind me says, hey, ive got to the view from mount tam where you can see the marine layer is still very present in many spots. If youre along the coast, youve been dealing with the clouds kind of a mix in other places. But the closer you are to the water, the more likely see some of that cloud cover and the temperatures certainly reflect that. 54 degrees out of Half Moon Bay. Big difference when you head to antioch where it is currently. 76 71 in san jose and weve got some nice 60s in the north bay and right around the bay itself. Wind has been relatively calm. But notice you got a bit of a delta breeze happening in fairfield at 21 Miles Per Hour. Were going to get a little bit of a stronger onshore flow today as we get into the afternoon, of course, the evening that will bring that marine layer right back in. But for now getting some of that sunshine as High Pressure stays in control. And you can really see how it kind of peeled away in the last few hours from a good portion of our viewing area. With the exception of the coast, you had 2 points out. They are certainly socked in a little bit more. So highs today will be above average, particularly if you are inland a spot like antioch, looking out for 84 degrees in nice 70s up in the north bay. Expecting that. 71 in napa. 76 in nevado fremont those 77 degrees. 78 down in san jose and about 60 in San Francisco will struggle to get to that 60 degree mark at half. Moon bay looking out for about 59 today. But the blue skies, if you havent seen them in, youre not at the coast should be on the way shortly. Again, you can see youve got a little bit of a breeze out there, too. Ill be back in a bit. Well talk more about our 7 day forecast. Kyla. Thank you. In just a few short weeks work on the new harvey milk terminal at San FranciscoInternational Airport will be all done and thats where we find kron. 4 Charles Clifford. He got an exclusive look inside the terminal today. He joins us now live with what he saw as the house. A look it looks you know, the harvey milk terminal here at sfo been under construction for years. Most of its already completed. But there are a few that theyre still still working on. And today we got a behind the scenes peak at what will be in sight. Inside the new harvey milk terminal at sfo. On wednesday, crews were putting the finishing touches on what has been a project almost 10 years in the making. Once the final phase of the work is completed here, travelers will find new shops, restaurants, art displays new ticket counters. Into new airplane gates for a total of 27 gates, both alaska and Delta Airlines plan to move their operations into this terminal later this year. There will also be a brandnew secondfloor security checkpoint. Thats above the ground floor, security checkpoint. The idea is that travelers walking over the bridge from the parking garage, an airtrain. Can go directly through security without needing to go downstairs. The completion of the work will also fully link the harvey milk terminal to the rest of the airport, ollowing people to walk between terminals both before and after they go through security. The entire harvey milk terminal project cost about 2. 5 billion dollars. But the airport believes in the long run it will be worth the hefty price tag. If we really invest heavily in the features, the amenities, the experience inside the terminal. We get that back in the form of people are spending more money in the terminal there, shopping and dining more. Theyre spending more time enjoying their stay in the terminal. So, yes, its a high initial investment. 2. 5 billion dollars when people love the time that theyre spending here, we recoup those costs. The new harvey milk terminal is set to open to the public with a Ribbon Cutting ceremony on june. 11th. All right, back live. Now, if youve been to sfo lately and you want to try to drive around the departures gate might have knows theres a lot of Road Construction there. Thats all going away after june. 11th. But the airport is going to launch a renovation of terminal 3 later this summer. But for now it at sfo, Charles Clifford kron. 4 news always on to something they can. Charles. No police and no forcing out saying kill says she wants to keep advocating for her students. So thats why i risk my own skin in order to protect their right to free speech and Academic Freedom to speak out against this genocide. Assembly speaker robert reverse, the Lieutenant GovernorEleni Kounalakis and superintendent Tony Thurmond all spoke to the delegation in person. Governor gavin newsom provided a virtual prerecorded remark. I will talk about our weather now with a live look outside here at the Golden Gate Bridge where it is foggy today. We have meteorologist kyla greg with details on. You think thats going to stick around . We should be getting some more sunshine in there unless youre directly at the coast in which case that marine layer is likely to hang on right through the afternoon. But you can see here the Golden Gate Bridge. You kind of look in the distance, you see a few little breaks there. However, temperatures reflecting that. We are much cooler in the areas where we have the clouds, right . So San Francisco in the 50s oakland at 62, are they getting a little more sunshine . Some 70s in san Jose Livermore concord 60s in santa rosa where they come down to those clouds a little bit there in Half Moon Bay. Were pretty much socked in just 55 degrees right now. Now, the nice thing about marine layer kind of coming in and going out regularly is it does help us a little bit with allergies. I looked right through the weekend. Were going to stay in that medium category. Instead of getting into that high category. So thats a bonus tonight. Also may be a bonus as well, is that were going to start off with mostly sunny skies for the game in the giants. Take on the dodgers. Throwing out the first pitch about 6. 45. But take that jacket because by the 7th inning, temperatures going down and that really marine layer will be rolling in it. Just to show you this on fog cast, you can kind of stays along the coast. This is right when the game starts ray and then watch as the game goes on, that marine layer starts pushing and we could even see a little drizzle along the coast is get into the evening and overnight hours and this is the way we wake up tomorrow morning. So obviously a big difference far as how the game starts and how he gave that to take that jacket with you. You can see a little bit of that cloud cover as well as we look live from the east bay. And if you look at livermore is an example, one of our east bay spots, you can see the average high. 75 are expecting low 80s today. Kind of steady as she goes over the next few days. But we do drop down a little bit there on sunday. And thats because that High Pressure thats been kind of keeping us warm and sunny is going to start to break down a little bit. In fact, by sunday, a little low pressure dropping in. See those greens and yellows. The start to roll in. That means temperatures starting to cool down a little bit. Its not too dramatic, but you can see it there as we get into the latter half of the weekend. But really its just going to be kind of that rinse. Repeat forecast with the fog in the morning and the sun in the afternoon, right on through the next 7 days. All right. Thank you. Still ahead, give the homeless treatment, not jail. Still ahead here at noon, what is chronic wasting disease . And what does it mean for californias deer population . Talk to a Healthcare Provider about nurtec odt from pfizer. For the first time in california history, chronic wasting disease or cwd has been detected in the states deer population, the disease, but detected into deer one in madera the other inyo counties following some testing earlier thisrmonth. And the cdc has warned that people should not eat any meat that infected with cwd. So we want to learn a little bit more about this. So c d. W f veterinarian branded musk is joining us here now live to talk more about this issue and explain it all. Thank you so much for joining us. Brandon. I thank you very much for having so well start with the basic easy softball question here. What is chronic waste disease . Free on disease in a predawn just refers to infections, protein. So its kind own class of diseases with a couple animal diseases. In a few human diseases that seem to be caused by a protein infections protein. And its impacting make the deers muscles are its nervous system. What is it . Thats and it is infecting. Its a really slow progression. And its a slow degenerative disease that deer so does affect the brain. And what does it do to the deer . Kind of highlighted in that in name chronic wasting disease. They lose condition over time get skinny. They waste away. They may become in coordinated and excessive drooling, some a taxi or or imbalance and some diary and some. Pneumonia seemed to be pretty common as well. And this is the first time in californias history. Weve seen this disease spread in the deer population of wondering first, how did you even know to do some testing for it . Were we seeing sick deer . Are people telling you about it and what does it mean that its happening in these 2 counties that are i mean, i do the map in front of but to deer in 2 different counties like how to get from one to the other thats a great question. Dont know. We dont know how it came to california. We may never know how it came to california. The fact that it was detected 2 counties that are separated by this year. Crest suggest that its probably been here for a while and weve been looking for cwd in california since 1999. At an active surveillance program. For most of that, meaning weve been actively seeking samples to test for this disease. It wasnt until this year that we finally detected. So you had been looking for it. And sort surprised that you actually found at this time around. Im not surprised that we found it. I was hoping that we had a little bit more as always, it was expected to be here was that was not a question of it was a question of when. Andewhat do you do with the deer once that you have found them . Its a. Its a test that we can only do reliably here that that have already died. So and the mortality, the animals that have died. We if we have samples and tissues and stuff trying to dispose of prophet appropriately investment is because of it is as an incinerator without incinerator much president of the of the remains in a landfill landfill. Work. A lot of hunters and the processor and taxidermist who a sample and test here that that have been harvested. Its a really great way to samples from animals and and a lot of samples, mammals and in the area where the deer were found. Is that a place where people hunt, where they might have interacted with the deer because then the cdc is warning for people not to consume deer meat that might have had this in it. So im wondering what is the actual risks to humans here with the deer population getting sick . Yeah, i dont. Both of these were from animals that were either found dead or hit by a car. So these are not Hunter Harvest of animals. The World Health Organization has been saying since 1997 not to do whatever we can to keep no cars and pretty on out of the human food chain and and cdc is some recommending the same. We recommend that hunters get their harvests tested and if it tests positive to not consume and you need from that animal. We have some work to do ahead of us and that we have to find out how much we have and where exactly it is. This is the first time weve detected in california. Were going ramp up our surveillance those areas. One of was detected in an area where there probably isnt much hunting, but theres probably fair amount of non migratory resident deer and around homes. So that might be a difficult area to get a better handle on we have. But lets all things that were working towards now. So here in the bay area, when people see like deer out in there gardens, you know, eating all the tomatoes that they just spent all that time planting and eating their flowers are just wandering around out there. Signs you want people to be looking out for with the deer. And then if they see that they should probably notify you when you would take what steps that. Yeah. So as i said, you know, chronic wasting disease are first to slow decline and a nutritional conditions. So they waste away. That is not a. That symptom that specific to chronic wasting disease. Weve been testing animals that look like that again since 1999. Is the first detect. It said currently. Its likely to be rare in an animal that looks like theres theres more likely causes foe a 50 year and in california to look like that. That being said, if you do see an animal that is. Skinny and they see particularly like that as a wife, a stance which would suggest that its that its all in coordinated head hanging low years, drooping excessive drooling. Those are additional clues that that it could be chronic wasting disease. We ask individuals contact us through our online mortality reporting system and you can report but sick and dead animals on that system and that that would go to an email send that out to our our local biologists have to follow up if we can. California department of fish and wildlife veterinarian branded. Thank you so much for joining us here during kron. News at noon today. So we can talk about this. I hope years these deer do not pop up here in the bay area and we can figure out how to get to the bottom of this. Thank you for your time. Thank you very much for having me. Alright, Health Workers and Community Groups are demanding San Francisco do more to prevent Overdose Deaths. That includes the argument that the problem is only made worse if drug users face the risk of incarceration kron fours Catherine Heenan reports. Members of the Group Carried signs that said things like care, not cages in dealing with addicts. They argue against what they call car several measures and other words, jail or prison time in 2023. We saw a crackdown on drug users. The sheriffs were activated to arrest. People use drugs in the heart of our city. 60 of those arrests involved. People of we see the ways that disrupts peoples lives and actually contributes to Overdose Deaths. District attorney Brooke Jenkins sees the problem in a very different light. I think the fact that we have enabled drug use that we have condoned it and weve allowed it is what has caused this problem to everyone that i talked to who is in recovery right now, it has been successful, said that it was the criminal Justice System that really propelled to decide that treatment was what they needed for themselves. They had to be forced in a way to make that choice for what was best for them. And so thats all that were trying to do is to make sure that we protect the most vulnerable from drug dealers, but also use this system to try to to to influence people to choose a better life for themselves. Coalition members argue that crackdown measures only lead to more overdoses. They say San Francisco needs to spend more money on prevention, treatment and Community Care facilities and say treatment should be available on demand. No waiting. We put so many barriers in peoples way from meeting to have id from meeting to show up at a certain place at a certain time of wait, lance. But among those agreeing that tougher measures are critical. Supervisor matt dorsey, who has overcome his own drug problems, he says with progress being made to reduce street level drug scenes advocating to turn San Francisco streets into arrest free for all of public drug use is a lunatic fringe and are key, not sound Public Health strategy. The leagues regular season started yesterday. All right. Well talk about our forecast right now with a live look outside here at sfo. We could see fog some cloud kind of hanging on there. We have caliber gun here now with details on whats going on has look across the rest of the day. Hey, there. Weve got some spots that are certainly a little cloudy. My san jose camera just decided it didnt want to play anymore, but you can see the clouds there about 10 00am. Little sun in San Francisco, cloudy out in Half Moon Bay and kind of a mix there in the east day and also along the Golden Gate Bridge. You can see a good portion of the state is still very much dealing with the marine layer is we have those cooler temperatures in spots like moderate 57 degrees. While meanwhile in fresno, it is 82. Im here in the bay area. Of course, were kind of splitting the difference there. Cool out at the coast in spots like Half Moon Bay, 70s and a spot like san jose. And then if we head inland, you can see some spots that are starting to pick up dublin out 70 to 71 in fairfield and check out kelsey bill affair at 87 degrees. Thats where the warmth is really getting in but we are going to see some pretty nice temperatures today. A little bit above average. If you are inland, the wind not too bad, although fairfield getting a little bit gusty there. 21 Miles Per Hour and we will start to see that return of that northwesterly flow as we go throughout the day today. So a little breezy in spots. The other thing well see the return of every layer. It will be a bit of an enhanced marine layer tonight yet again is expands kind of rolls and and once that happens, we start to see all of those clouds, the fog and even a little bit of coastal drizzle possible in the overnight tonight. So just be ready for that. The clouds will move in. It will be a little bit later in the evening. Of course, we have a nice afternoons to get through first, but they will be pervasive that marine layer as we get into our morning tomorrow. Temperatures tonight between about 50 and 58 degrees and then lets talk. Temperature ends live. Look here from the east bay. We could see that kind of mix of sun and slouds thats happening out there. And today, as i mentioned, pretty nice day, were going to stay rather steady with our temperatures. If you look at berkeley as an example here, nothing too dramatic over the next 7 days will be a slight cool down as we get to the weekend. But thats about it. Really take a look at this. Its lots of sunshine, certainly with that fog in the morning, i mentioned that we cool down a little bit over the weekend. You can see we top out of the upper 70s inland instead of getting into the 80s and then we kind of steady as she goes as we roll through the next 7 days. So pretty good looking forecast. Not bad, but definitely a little may gray in the mornings. And then that bay area thing where we take the jacket when we head out at night. Back to you. Thank you so much.
