The biggest fire thats been happening is the rocky fire. Debora villalon back on the fire line, you learned the fire is still spreading and causing more people to evacuate from home. Were on the east side of clear lake. Were watching this ridge about 5 miles away. The rocky fire, flames still growing and occasionally leaping up. People here are being warned they should be prepared today leave if necessary. The big picture is so big it becomes hard to grasp. More than 18,000 acres and still burning. My nephews, my grand kids, my son and daughterinlaw. Reporter but evacuees have to think small. What they can grab fast and throw into the car. What is irreplaceable. Its been crazy. Its been scary. Its been intense. Reporter intense also describes the battle on this fire. Even with cooler weather it rages on. Devouring dry fuels for a third day. Boiling firefighters efforts to stop or stop it as they scramble to save homes. Laurel lake has ash falling from the sky. As the fire keeps rumblings, more evacuees head out. Laptop, toiletry, now headed to a friends house. Im thinking, are you not going to be able to sleep all night to wait for the firemen to come and get you out. I dont know. Ill just go. Reporter for some in the early path of the fire its too late. Im pretty shook up. I lost most of my parents things yesterday and my grandparents home last night. We lost two dogs and my grandparents how is completely gone. Were would were worried it could come this way. Reporter school buses and drivers already put on stand by to help those who dont have cars. Reporter weve been watching for two days now and it just seems to be getting slowly closer and closer. When it stopped glowing red. We thought maybe they got that contained. Recently we started seeing the flames again. Reporter 1,300 firefighters and dozens of bulldozers and helicopters. The National Guard added two tankers to the two that were already in service. Containment still estimated at 5 although that number may actually be higher. Were expecting another update from calfire in the morning. Once theyve done the mapping and surveying, it may be that they actually are making more head way on the rocky fire thats whats indicated on that 5 . By the way, calfire asking everyone wherever they go this weekend be very careful as were seeing now all it takes is a spark, julie. Its such hard conditions for those people to have to just watch and wait. And now we go to bill martin on the conditions as they try to contain this fire. I hate to say temperatures five to 10 degrees warmer than yesterday. And the fire in a very remote area. Not very re remote but hard to get to. Youre getting Something Like this. The fire is getting pushed more in this direction instead of going off to the east. The winds are kind of light but they are pushing in more toward the clear lake area. The forecast for tomorrow then. Tomorrow morning at 8 00 a. M. Its about 68 degrees. Maximum temperature 90 degrees. But notice the bottom tier numbers, 60 and 40 . Thats three and four times what the humidity was when this fire started. Increased humidity is going to help firefighters a lot. Its just a really tough terrain to fight fires in. When we come back we will talk more about the cool down that has definitely hit us today and will continue into the weekend. A firefighter was found dead while working on a fire in the Northeast Corner of california. He was fighting the frog fire which has burned more than 1,000acres. David rue was from assignment from california. So far no cause of death. Governor brown expressed a statement expressing thanks for his service and condolence for his family. The San FranciscoSheriffs Department says an inmate found dead inside the county jail this week appears to have committed suicide. And what concerns the mans family and the Public Defenders Office is whether Sheriffs Office took the proper precautions to keep that from happening. Jana katsuyama in the city tonight. And tells us there were some warnings but they may not have been taken seriously enough. Reporter the jail staff may have been notified three time that is this inmate had issues and the question is whether they did enough about it. Jail staff had been warning earlier he was suicidal. From our perspective theres three huge red flags for why the Sheriffs Department should be keeping a very close watchful eye on mr. Perolino. Reporter this is a photo of their client from his facebook page. Last month, he told his family he had gone to the Golden Gate Bridge to commit suicide. Later, chp called and told them they had found him intoxicated on a bench but was denying being suicidal. He was crying and she felt concerned about his Mental Health state. The court did order a mental evaluation. Were not sure if that p happened. Reporter the next day, petrolino was found hanging in a shower. This is their third client to die in jail this year. Certainly were concerned about the level of care or clients are getting while theyre in custody. Reporter there should be a review of the jails policy so that this doesnt happen again. The Sheriffs Department says that their internal investigation unit. The San FranciscoPolice Department and the medical Examiners Office are all conducting their own investigation. Any idea how long it will take before we see what the results are. I did reach out to the Police Department and they said being conducted by their homicide unit. But in the meantime. Certainly a lot of questions and concerns and the public defender says theyre awaiting the result before they make any recommendation. One of the three men convicted of carjacking a school bus and kidnapping 26 children are up for parol. Shonefeld is expected to be released within a week. The men had planned to demand a 5 million ransom but the driver and students managed to escape while the men slept. Woods is up for a parol hearing this fall. 21yearold Mark Anthony Estrada lived with his parents in east oakland. Richard pointer tells us that police executed a search warrant and collected items that they may have previously overlooked. Estradas mother told the attorney that investigators removed a poster and the attorney think theyre still trying to accomplish possible gang ties. Estrada has a bullet wound and is currently being held at the santa rita jail. A man was struck and killed by a train. Caltrain says its still not clear why he was there. A southbound train hit him near 22nd street about 4 30. He died a short time later in the hospital. There were about 400 people on the train at the time. They had to disembark and trains were stopped in both directions. The tracks will be open at about 5 40 tonight. Its the 15th fatality on bay area tracks so far this year. B. A. R. T. Service between San Francisco and oakland is about to shut down for the entire weekend. At midnight. B. A. R. T. Will close the tube and itll stay closed until 4 00 a. M. Next monday. The transbay tube is shut down so that important repairs can be made. Right now were going to the university of San Francisco. Now this this happened, you dont know. Reporter the crime wave continued for three long days including a violent robbery at a walmart where two men set off an explosive device inside the store. As you can see a pattern of violence were just not used to. Reporter Violent Crime and property crime are up slightly this year as compared to last so homicides are not. It was this last weekend that caused the police chief to call an emergency meeting monday. These are some serious serious crimes that are causing a lot of havoc in the city. Plan to work with clergy then bring in extra officers on overtime shift. I guess the best way to put it is all hands on deck. We want everybody we have to come out to work. Meeting people on the street where they live and where things go down, thats where you need to be. I think the religious Community Needs to come out and step up. Coast guard has suspended its search for two teens that went missing off the coast of florida. Perry cohen and austin stephanous vanished last friday after they is the out on a fishing trip. The coast guard quickly located their both 70 miles offshore but despite a search as far north as North Carolina crews have not spotted any signs of those boys. The coast guard says it will resume their search if they get any new information. The e embarcadero will connect fourth and king by at t park with Fishermans Wharf using those historic streetcars. Rob roth tells us the service was actually proposed years ago but its just now getting rolling. Its been talked about for some 30 years but beginning tomorrow it will become a reality. San francisco leaders announced the launching of the e line. Ready, one, two, three. Reporter e line will run from the caltrain station to Fishermans Wharf making stops all the way down the bay. It connects from ballpark to the new brandon street wharfing, ferry building, exploratory yum, cruise ship terminal, pier 39, Fishermans Wharf. We just have a ring of activity. Reporter currently passengers have to take the f line to Market Street and transfer in they want to go along the embarcadero but with the new line they wont have to transfer. Within 20,000 passengers a day ride the f line and as we saw today those streetcars were so full they didnt even stop to pick up passengers waiting in front of the ferry building. I think its going to lighten the loan on the f which is good. Reporter the idea was first proposed in the 1980s but was put on the back burner until now. Muni says it experimented with the e line during americas cup two years ago and muni says it got great reviews from passengers. Tourists said the e line should make it a lot easier to get around. You come here and you always have questions and you have to look like a tourist, where do you get this transfer or that transfer. Seems that would be a very good idea. Thousands of people wanted to know more about firemen after we first told you about him back in april. Well tonight that little dog has a new home. Ktvus rob roth tells us how his new owners have a special understanding of what it means to be a burn survivor. Hey baby, hi. Reporter a 12yearold girl. Its nice. Yeah i think he liked that. Reporter and her new best friend a 6 monthold chihuahua mix named fireman who is about to become part of her family. We love him. He likes me. Reporter the two share a common har, both survived severe burns. I had no skin from my mouth to my belly button. Reporter we first met fireman at a Veterinary Clinic just weeks old, fireman was left at the fire station with what appeared to be chemical burns on his ears and stock maam. They believe someone tortured him. Reporter firemans injuries were so severe both his ears had to be amputated. He layed on his side only because he was in so much pain. Reporter no one has been arrested but after our story, the hospital received dozens of calls. One hospital recommended chloe. Normally in the human world you dont meet dog survivors now meeting a dog like me is even more special. Reporter chloe said her parents took a little convincing. I was like please, please, please, please. And my mom is like fine, only because its a special circumstance. And im like yes. Reporter i think chloe is going to help him heal his heart. Reporter a special ending for a puppy with a rough start off to be with a family who understands. Hes going to live in my bed and hes going to be my baby. Reporter in pittsburg, rob roth. And thats a wonderful story. Were talking about temperatures trending down. The reason why is the inversion of the marine layer has deepened out. Temperatures today take a look. Antioch was 90 degrees today. Thats down a good 15 degrees from where antioch was just a few days ago on wednesday when it was so hot. We go outside, theres San Francisco, theres the bay bridge. And what you cant see overhead a lot of fog. High clouds moving up the coast. That are increasing the humidity so you see it right here all this moisture moving up. You see its a little bit east. If this had trained a little bit west. Maybe a few degrees west. We would be seeing a lot of thundershower activity increased humidity. And because the low is shifted a little bit. Were seeing more and more of the activity on the west up here in nevada and further east. Were trying to get a break from the thundershower. We may see a stray sprinkle. But were seeing increased humidity and the increased humidity will be quite helpful. Here we are tomorrow morning. This is from the south. So subtropical moisture, humidity in the area. Itll feel sticky. It kind of feels sticky outside even if youre in San Francisco. Theres the fog forecast for the morning. Fog forms back. And theres lake tahoe. Everything shifts out. Theres the fog footprint pretty aggressive then theres the afternoon 5 00 and sunny. We had the big heat early in the week but thats all changed now. Around the bay its cool. 60s low 70s. Then you get over the hill. Youre mid70s, low 80s. And the hot spots mid80s with sun and humidity. You will find a 90 out here toward discovery bay. Maybe you get a 90 in fairfield. 92 in clear lake. 70 in richmond. These forecast highs for your saturday. Sunday not much different. Except the humidities will drop. Itll feel a little bit less sticky. Therell be more sunshine as well. So the forecast along the coast. Not bad. Mid60s at the beaches. And then your five day forecast like this. You see temperatures slightly cooler on sunday but really a nice five day forecast. One thats beneficial to firefighters around the state. Because youve increased the humidity.
