President Enrique Pena Nieto says it is the strongest quake to strike mexico in at least 100 years. Among them, two children from the state of tabasco. Those numbers, though, could very well go up as the day progresses and as crews get a chance to get into some of the more damaged areas. The usgs is monitoring the aftershocks. Some of them are 5. 7 in magnitude. The Pacific Tsunami Center warns that waves 3 feet high were measured off the coast but no threat to california or oregon. This quick struck as mexican emergencies were preparing for hurricane katia to make landfall. That storm is expected to be a category 2 storm which should make land fall saturday, the same way we are expecting irma to impact miami. Clearly, mexican authorities will have their hands full trying to handle a hurricane 2 on this side the country and an earthquake on the other side. We have trying to see what the developments are in guatemala. You can so that epicenter was right off the coast, very close to the junction between guatemala and mexico. Surely, there is some damage in guatemala as well. We are waiting for reports to start coming in from those countries to get a chance of how big the earthquake impacted them as well. An Animal Shelter group in Broward County dakotaed hall of fame baseball manager tony larussas Animal Foundation and the spca. Congress business to sign off on billions of dollars in disaster aid for hurricane harvey. Doug luzader reports from washington, both storms will put a big strain on federal and state budgets. Reporter we expect congress to give its approve to this aid package but because of everything thats been tacked on to this, it will put some lawmakers in a tough spot. There is no question that texas needs help and lots of it. Add to what is about to happen in florida. They have never seen winds that strong. A veteran oakland fire captain is facing charges of child pornography. 58yearold richard chu is accused of possession and distributing hundreds of images. He made a Court Appearance in martinez yesterday. Chu sent nearly 80 images to undercover deputies. Deputy sers offed a search warrant at his home in lafayette and at the fire station where he works. These images are Crimes Involving children under 126789 the fact that these iron are of that age, this is dangerous to me. The fact that somebody is downloading and distributing this. That storm has been downgraded to a category 4. Thats still very strong, Strong Enough to potentially become one of the worst natural disasters in u. S. History. More than a Million People in southern florida have been ordered to leave. We have seen the huge traffic jams. The storm has caused at least 16 deaths and widespread damage in it the caribbeans. A team of National Guardmen in the south bay are headed right into the path of the storm. Alex savidge is live in Mountain View with more on their vision. Reporter its a mission to try to save lives of people caught in the path of Hurricane Irma in florida. Once again, we are seeing members about of the California Air National Guard stepping up and doing their part here. This unit just returned from texas, days ago, after rescuing more than 100 people from the floodwaters brought on by hurricane harvey. Here in moffet field, they are preparing again. They have 120 members or so of the National Guard being deployed here along with the airplanes you see here. Three combat shadow air planes and two pave hawk rescue helicopters which we can show you over here. We are getting slowing on three or four portions of the 101. 238 at 880 is slow. Each though it is lighter than usual, we do have some lowdowns out there as you look at highway 4. Slow right through pittsburg and bay point. At 880 north and southbound in front of oracle arena, it is pretty good here. Can you see traffic is moving well. At the bay bridge, a 10 to 15 minute delay. Slightly slower than normal by delays exist. Lets bring steve in with the weather. Before we get to our weather, and even irma, i want to show you some pretty heavy thunderstorm activity in very gas. If you are headed there, there are some flash flood cells there. Be advised. Might be bumpy if you fly up there. Flash flood watches out. Thats for very fast as that monsoon moisture comes up. Wind beginning to pick up here taking a look at the observation from south florida from miami to marathon and key west. Marathon looks to be what i would focus on and certainly miami as well.
