Mile region. Again, welcome to the 9. Gasia mikaelian is at Cardinal Newman high school and half of the classes were destroyed there. She spoke to the principal and he had never received more calls from alumni than he did with people wanting to help, students and former students from the family of Cardinal Newman. Despite the damage, hopeful that they will have class up and running. I would like to interview you with the Highway Patrol because getting lost in the mix is glen ellen and highway 12 that runs up and down toward kenwood. You know the area, mike, a beautiful area and a lot of the trees were damaged by fire. You heard chp say the trees could come down. And the power lines, and the the power lines. Right and it will be a few days. Look at the detours on the map. The purple areas are the roads that are closed, highway 128 in napa county, parts of highway 121 and 221 and in santa rosa. Even though the freeway is open, a lot of the offramps are closed. For now, we want to give you a look at what we know. The confirmed death toll remains at 11 with 7 victims in sonoma county, 2 in napa county and one each in yuba and mendicino countys. Cal fire said at least 1500 buildings have burned. Many individuals have not been able to get in touch with relatives or friends because of the lack of cell service. A lot of people are saying i dont know what happened to my home but at least they are safe and they are itchy to get back to their house and see if its there or not and no one has been able to tell them. If people are tweeting me you have to thank a lot of people are probably in the same boat. Yesterday when i got home t kind of hit. When youre in the mix and working and doing your job, and it hurts to find out more people that i know, personally, who has lost a friend with parents and inlaws who lost their homes. Right. Many people who were evacuated i have another friend with a home up at safari west. That home is okay but all the neighboring homes are gone. They all want to get back and as the chp officer said, safety first. Right. They are trying to obviously get people out first and save lives and then start to open the road. Infrastructure is critical and a lot of power is still out. Gasia at Cardinal Newman, they dont have power. Tens of thousands of customers without power right now. Weather wise, i was going lets go to the News Conference getting underway from the napa county sheriffs. Information on the fires in napa county. Same thing as yesterday. We will give you one by one and add Additional Information today. At this time, i would like to introduce our congressman, our senator, and our Assembly Member to speak on Emergency Declarations and support that were receiving from the outside. Thank you, supervisor. Im mike thompson. I represent this area in congress. First, i would like to say that everybody on the ground working for the people of the affected area are doing a fantastic job and i would encourage everybody to listen to what our First Responders, our First Responders and our fire and our police say. They are doing everything they can to make sure you are safe. Please listen and follow directions. Heard froms to federal aid, as soon as the state finishes their declaration of disaster, the federal government almost immediately provided for fire, federal fire assistance grants. That helps in a number of areas, along with the state declaration, helps to allow for the other areas to come in for mutual aid. It also provides important funding to the affected area. We have also put in for assistance from fema. That request has been made. I sent a letter signed by myself and jared huffman, the other congressman from sonoma county, represents the other half of sonoma county, to the white house. Yesterday, travel with Sheriff Robinson in napa and later with the Sheriffs Department on an overfly of sonoma, took a number of photographs. All of those have been submitted to fema and the white house so they understand exactly how serious and devastating this fire is on the people of our area. So we expect them to be moving quickly. I spoke with a fema director last night. They are understanding of the situation and will hopefully move quickly to declare both public assistance, and thats the federal money that will come to the affected area to do the repairs as needed and the response as needed as well as the individual assistance, and thats grant money for people who who have been harmed. Along with that comes a low interest loan program, so all that is in the works. Senator feinstein called me this morning. She is fully engaged in this. She is pushing. Nancy pelosi, the democratic leader, spent a lot of time on the phone with her yesterday, she, too, is engaged. The entire california delegation will be pushing to get the response and funds as soon as possible. I turn it over to senator dodd. Good morning. First and foremost, you noticed that the congressman eluded to the Emergency Declaration put forth yesterday morning, signed by governor brown. Ive been in contact with the governor and the pro tem and speaker of the assembly as well. One thing i think is important to reiterate is the great job that the first stoppedders have done. Sheriff robinson and the entire team from the california chp and local cities and mutual aid we have and our fire chief and all the Fire Agencies that are coming forward to help. One challenge that we do have is connectivity. We are working hard to try and get that back. I talked with oes last night and they have given me assurances todays the day. But we need to get that going. Thank you very much. Good morning. Thank you everyone for attending today. Yesterday, i had the opportunity to take a ride up into silverado with the Sheriffs Department. Nothing is more devastating than to see a family see their home for the first time. Today with the support of all the people behind us, we are trying to get people in their homes, and lets face it. We have to make sure its a safe time to do that. It will take a lot of patience and compassion to do so. The governors Emergency Declaration is paramount. We can get resources and help people get drivers licenses and the help they are looking for. They have obviously lost a lot. I want to thank all of you, but, please. Have compassion with these people. This is a difficult time for all of us and a difficult time for all of us behind you. We want to make things happen quickly. Quite frankly, it will take some time. Thank you. We certainly understand the desire for information. This morning, we are going to give you as much detail as possible. The 2017 napa fire complex is comprised of three fires. At this time, we do not have any idea how many evacuees we have. We do not know how many structures have been affected. This is not a fire we are facing from a firefighting standpoint right now. This remains life safety. Same as yesterday. We are working on evacuations, making sure that the scenes are secure and people are staying away from the danger zone and allowing Law Enforcement to access those areas. At this time, we will go into speaking about updates on each particular fire. Good morning, everyone. Alfredo pedrosa. The atlas peak, we had 25,000 acres burned as of 5 25 this morning. Its about making sure that people are safe. Safety is the number one concern right now. These have caused evacuations on atlas peak road, medical evacuations and monticello road, atlas peak to circle oaks, soda canyon, the avenues, olive hill, monticello park, silverado country club, Wooden Valley road, comsville road to wild horse valley. Silverado trail to sage canyon between silverado trail and now a lot of folks are asking where folks are going to. For our district, its the Napa Valley College gym, 2277 napa valley highway in napa. And we have Crosswalk Church at 2590 first street. There was a lot of air attack in our district. I had a chance to visit our district yesterday. We will do everything to keep you safe and make sure that you guys and gals can go back to your district. Our concern is your youre safe. Good morning. I am the supervisor for the tubbs fire. The city of calistoga is safe. Power was restored yesterday afternoon. The tubbs fire has not increased in size that we know of but Petrified Forest road is closed, highway 128 is still closed. The road from calistoga up to nice valley. So the main thing we want to size, we have a voluntary evacuation north of tubbs lane. Please, stay out of the evacuation areas if you can. We will be going on the radio, and chair ramos will talk about that in a moment, to communicate the message out more because so many people do not have, as senator dodd said, access to the cell service, or, in my case, no power anywhere where i live in santa lina. Thank you for getting the message out as much as you can. Im the supervisor for the first district, and i will talk about the little brother of the other two big fires. We have about 1000 acres but still zero containment. The mandatory evacuations, henry, henry to dealy, duhig at loss amigos at cuttings worth. We had last night, 30 people staying at the Crosswalk Church and 100 people staying at the Napa Valley College. We understand, and we are very concerned that loved ones are looking for their family. Theyre looking for their friends. Certainly, communication has been a struggle to achieve locating families. We want to encourage people that if you are looking for information for a loved one, the best place is www. Safeand well. Org. We cannot release the names. They have to be done through the web. But we courage people at the shelter to register and other evacuees to register and even if you have not been evacuated, go ahead and register so that communication is there for people who may be looking for you. Well be establishing Access Points for communication and work with the Library Director to have that be an additional source of communication. At the time, comcast has opened a public wifi service in the following zip codes, 95401, 95403, 95404, 95405, 94558, 94559, 94903. These complimentary sessions, we are grateful to comcast, will be open through friday october 13. Once a hot spot is selected one thing hot spots, xfinity Wi Fi Network and launch your browser, and tell take you to the hot spot ones in the location. So certainly, communication is key. At this time, we will go into particulars of safety. And i would like to introduce sheriff robertson. John robertson, napa county sheriff coroner. Its with sorrow that i tell you today we confirmed two fatalities, charles and sara rippey, ages 100 and 98, were unable to be evacuated from the 100 block of westgate in napa county. Our thoughts are certainly with the family at this time. Thank you. As of now, there are 27,000 people without power in napa. A lot of downed power lines, and when i went home last night to check with my family after a long day, there are people at home without power and without wifi and dont know whats happening especially if they are near a fire zone so pg e will be working on restoring power for those areas outside the fire zone, and they will work with cal fire on the other areas restoring Power Forward to napa. Thats in progress. More safety is people wanting to get home. We understand that people want to get home just to check on their house or get home and get back to their closet full of clothes, take a shower. We get that. But its super important that everyone comply with evacuation orders for a good reason. Chief . Good morning. Barry bier man with Cal Fire Team management 3 and the fire chief. Currently in the evacuation areas, we have a lot of devastation that has gone on. As discussed here today, theres a lot of people that we understand want to get back in there. The number one priority is the safety, the safety of the public and the people evacuated and the safety of our First Responders. Before we get back in the area, there is a process to ensure that safety and repopulate. Its typical in areas where we dont see smoke, understandably people want to get back in. But its not safe to do that until we secure the utilities, the gas lines, and make sure that the trees will not fall down on someone. That is a process that were already starting to work on. However, its not as easy as one would hope to ensure the safety. I ask to please be patient as we work in the areas. The fires are still out there and still actively growing and we will update acreage and containment daily as we get the information. Resources still continue to be limited. We have folks on the fire line starting their third shift that were not relieved. There are folks not able to come in with so many fires. We are having to share resources as there are many priorities and communities affected by this. Everyone is working hard, not only trying to get people back in the area that the fire has gone through but also the area that still continues to have fire. We still continue to have active fire in all locations. We are, unfortunately, continuing to experience additional structure loss that happens and due to the fire growth and the winds yesterday from a Northern Wind to a southwestern wind to the evening and pushed the fire back in different directions. Our team is over seaing the partrick fire and the nunns tubbs fire and at last peak fire. Thank you. Oh, excuse me. One last thing that came up. Right now, the people who want to start using things like drones, we ask that you please refrain from drone use you in any fire areas. If you fly, we cannot fly our aircraft. We have aircraft on all of our fires trying to contain the incidents. Please make sure that the drones do not go up. Thank you. Additionally from a safety and utility standpoint, we ask that you call 7072044347, Environmental Health matters. Again, for sewer backup into your home, 7072044347. Of course, being able to share the most relevant and up to date information is what the eoc is tasked to do. We know that brings comfort to people whether they are in the evacuation zones or not. We will continue around the clock to provide the most up to date information and simply because someone is not getting that mixed message, it doesnt mean that the information isnt coming. It means that something has not changed. Again i will reiterate the platforms we are using to distribute the most current information, the countys website and it includes fire incident maps as well. You can check that out, and we are using social media platforms of facebook and twitter. We are using mixel, email or text based. To receive the alerts, you may text your zip code to 888777. Or you can go online and sign up for the emails at mixel. Com. Its available in spanish also. We are continuing to coordinate with our Media Partners and we thank you all for being here today to be able to get the message out to our residents and to those concerned about our residents. The napa county employees need to check in with supervisors or Department Heads to see if its essential work staff because of the chp advisories. Public information, General Information only. To reiterate, we cannot give details about specific people. Again, i would like to reiterate that this remains a life safety fire event. We will continue to ensure and prioritize the safety of our residents. We will continue to maintain security areas with the evacuation zones. We ask people to be mindful of their health. There is a lot of smoke in the air. If you are feeling ill, our clinics, we are staffed up with the clinics at Napa Valley College and Crosswalk Community church. We ask people to help each other. Please be mindful of your safety and your neighbors safety. To reiterate, we dont have approximations of evacuees or the number of structures. Well keep the residents and all of those concerned informed. This concludes our press conference, and well take questions at this time. Was anyone else reported missing . Any persons missing reports that you have right now, people that you may find to be missing . We have had questions and people are checking Evacuation Centers and with friends and things like that. The inability for us to community through social media and things like that has restricted our ability to community communicate with the public. People are seeking that on their own and going to the evacuation sites and checking with them and with friend whens they can. No, sir. How much aid do you think napa needs . I dont know if you can quantify a number. Napa county will need aid both in fighting the fire, keeping people safe and dealing with the aftermath. We are going to make sure that we work tirelessly to ensure that they get all the money that they need. As you no doubt know, theres a huge backlog in washington in regard to disaster funding. Napa county hasnt received all the funding that they are due from the last natural dispafter disaster that we experienced. Its important that congress do itself job and appropriate the funds so they are available when napa county, any other county in this state or any other state has a disaster such as this. People need the help, and its the governments job to provide the help. Congress has a responsibility, and they need to live up to the responsibility. Has the white house reached out to you or as i said, ive spoken with fema. They are aware of this. All the documentation was sent to both fema and to the white house and as i continued, last night at a at an event in sacramento, an unrelated event in sacramento, the Vice President had stated that the federal government will be here for the areas in california that were hit by severe fires. Lets talk about safety for a moment. We were out live all morning and saw the closed roads. The troopers told people who wanted to return to their homes, it was optional, at their own risk. What do you say to those people who are desperately trying to figure out what to do next . A lot a lot of the citizens have rallied together in removing livestock. Peoplesanimals are extremely important to them. Initially during the fire t it wasnt a priority. Life and safety a priority. People are going back in and removing livestock. We are assisting. We are escorting people back in to remove livestock and animals, and yes, people are going in at their own risk to remove animals. We cant have a lot of traffic going in. So most of those are escorted. So at their own risk . Yes. Well take two more questions. Can you tell us a little more about the website where you can where you can look for safe and well . The safe and well website, similar to the facebook check in if you are able to say that you are safe from a Natural Disaster event, and certainly, its a method by which people can list themselves as safe and loved ones can look for you. For confidentiality reasons, we are not able to be the medium by which that happens so we are encouraging people to check themselves as safe on safeandwell. Org. You mentioned you were using the radio to get information out. Do you want to talk about that . Certainly, we will be coordinating with our local radio stations, and we will have members of this team behind us and others that have up to date information to be able to disseminate that. I will take one more question. I believe they all started on sunday night. Do you find anything that all to suggest unusual, yes, to have that many fires start. All fires are being investigated. Currently, nothing or no indication that i received that as to what the causes were. However, being on scene to the atlas fire, one of the First Resources at scene, the winds were extremely erratic. Branches were blowing off trees as i was trying to make access. During the conditions of high winds, you know, a lot of things happened. We were under red flag warning. The humidity was extremely low. It doesnt take much to start a fire but nothing to indicate what the cause is, just that they are all being investigated right now. Thank you. This concludes our press conference for today. We will have another press Conference Tomorrow at 9 00 a. M. If you would like to schedule individual interviews. You can do so through our Public Information officers located here. Again, we would like to reiterate we do not have a number of evacuees at this time. We want everyone to stay safe. Stay out of the evacuated zone. We are doing our very best. All right. Have you have it. The conditions that cal fire spokesman said is just right for the fires on sunday night into monday morning but still at this point no indication in regards to the cause of the fires. Congressman thompson saying that the request for funds made for fema and went off to the white house. Atlas fire 25,000 acres 0 contained and in three counties, napa, sonoma and solano. The tubbs fire has really not increased in size as of right now but still 571 structures as of last night destroyed in the tubbs fire. And the firefight, sal , is still on. The big problem is connect tuft and connectivity and they are trying to set up wifi to get people connected. They understand that people evacuated really want to go back but theres a process to repopulation, trying to get the power on, and trying to get the roads clear. The gas back on. This may not take place for the weekend. And one of the hardesthit areas where we have been covering this is the city of santa rosa from Gasia Mikaelian has been reporting all morning and want to bring her back in live. Gasia . Reporter mike, i was languaging to listening to the News Conference here as you were showing it, and i am at Cardinal Newman. Let me stand back and you can see a lot of smoke and haze and up in the sky, thats the sun, a weird, bright coral color and it tells you how the skies are impacted here. Greg, if we swing to the left, there was a fairly large plume of smoke, brand new, thick and dark rising about. 50 of a mile back where we are. That has gone away but its the second time this morning that something new has popped up. It goes to what the fire officials were telling us, that fires are happening and new fires started. Here we are, looking at what used to be the campus of cards natural newman. Almost half of the rooms were left in tack. Leaders from the school will have to decide what happens next. They told me that they are holding a meeting in the coming minutes today off site to figure out what can the school accommodate when it comes to welcoming students back to Cardinal Newman high school. Yes, there is devastation. Yes, there is damage. But for him, life and work and school [no audio we lost gasias signal. We will reconnect in just a moment. Lets move on. The organization, home care assistance, is working to evacuate Senior Citizens and their belongings from the fire zone. Teams are on the ground with wheelchairs, supplies, provisions for people who need it. Jesse walters is kind enough to join us live in the studio. Jesse, thank you. And take us through the process. So this morning, we are delivering about 15 more wheelchairs over to the Senior Living community. We have a huge need for incontinence supplies and just diapers and sweatshirts and sweats. Its major needs coming from from our teams all over the north end. Does the area have a Larger Population of Senior Citizens . I have literally never seen this. We had literally hundreds that need constant support that were evacuated yesterday, and we were evacuating them one by one. A lot of stories and one off the top of my head, one from glen ellen there, and as soon as it sparked up were you aware of it or yeah. I was in a meeting on monday morning and said, hey, we just lost one complete community and three more are evacuating. How soon you can get supplies . Our team jumped on the phone and got providers and it was one community after another. Do you have the equipment on standpoint . I imagine a lot of equipment, wheelchairs, walkers and the supplies that you mentioned need to come in. Are they ready or whats going on . We specialize in getting caregivers in peoples home. We are pulling from every medical Equipment Company right now. People watching at home, how can they help . What can they do for you . I know a lot of people want to help. Thats a great question. We are still figuring out we are still responding quickly. They can look up homecareassistance. Com and reach out to the local office. I have 9 teams throughout the bay area on call 24 7 providing care to clients in hotels who were displaced. This is the hotline on the screen with the phone number. Before we let you go, this is why youre here. Peoplesay why do you do what you do . I mean, this is it. Do you get the sense for you that our mission has been the way the world ages, we have an opportunity to change the local communitys yeah. Jesse, thank you. We appreciate all you do. Airbnb has activated the Disaster Response program. Hosts in San Francisco, marin, and Alameda County can sign up for free housing for fire victims and rescue workers and free hosting continuing through october 30th. Facebook has launched the crises Response Center for people affected by the fires with now separate pages for each of the fire areas. People can ask about the people they have not heard from, and fire victims can let people know they are safe and there are hundreds offering transportation, shelter, and information. Lets go back to Gasia Mikaelian at Cardinal Newman high school. We heard that the shelter is trying to restore not only power but connectivity for everyone, and it happens for us, too, in the business as we respond and report on disasters. Reporter its a wonder we are able to bring you so many live pictures here. Im going to step out of the way because a couple of minutes ago, you might see him now, the principal of Cardinal Newman school is here on the roof and looking at what still stands. He is about to go into a meeting to determine how to best serve the students, the 620 young men and women and children who call this school home. I had a chance to talk with him and he highlighted some of the significance of the items that were burned and those left virtually untouched. Its keeping the Community Together right now, having gone to school here myself and having worked here my whole life, at least professionally, and i believe its keeping the community and the sense of connection for the school and we educate in a lot of ways. We are a one to one school. We use devices, so there are ways that teachers can community with students off site and we can keep that learning going. Reporter so, again, they are already planning, certainly rebuilding in the far distant future but they want to talk about serving students who dont have a school to come to. That meeting will start in minutes, and, greg, this will be a big old ugly swing with the camera but i think it will be worth it. There is an American Flag in front where i believe parents would pull in and drop off your children. The American Flag is virtually untouched. Its hanging there, and thats something that the principal pointed out to me, and we are showing that to you now. Over to your life, there is still a cross standing, part of the entrance to the school and the structure on which the cross stands, completely burned, nothing but twisted, burned metal. Here at Cardinal Newman b half the classrooms were destroyed, burned, number 20 through 35 destroyed. The Office Building no longer. The library burned, 16 through 19 burned and the humanitiess wing. Rooms 1 through 11 in good shape and the Science Center and dance center and the weight room is okay. Someone started up a gofundme site with a goal of 5,000 which we know is a drop in the bucket but still people donating to the go fund me is at 800 and i had a number of viewers saying can you see if that school is open. I will run down the information from fellow facebook friends, i guess of course, were friends. And from the principal here but unfortunately, its not good news for the Mark West Community preschool community. Riebli and redwood academy, k through 12. And what i am hearing through a couple of the sources are saying that those three schools are not in very good shape, either gone or heavy damage there. Mike and sal, as i give things back to you, we all know what its like to have very Young Children in school or High Schoolers here. For those of us who have left high school, to drive by and see your stomping grounds in ruins, it can be traumatizing. The principal said he had never spent as much tomb on the phone as he did with former students than yesterday. He is taking that as a positive sign. His last words to me were we still have a school. Gasia, real quick, is there any power where you are . Reporter boy, not that i expect. I havent found a light switch to turn on. I see nothing but ruins around me. There are power lines down on the ground driving in. I havent tested it. But i dont think so. I saw a pg e truck drive through at 7 00 and left without doing anything. Honestly, another big, ugly swing, sorry. But if we show you what is across the street here, there are no more homes here. I cant imagine theres power. Gasia, thank you for the report. Well check back in before the end of the hour. I keep picturing myself where she is on the east side of 101 and trying to envision the night and early morning, porter road, coming down where Kaiser Medical Center is, and crossing the freeway. You hear of mudslides and landslides and its like a fire slide sliding down the canyon into the streets of san jose santa rosa. When i was listening to it on the police roads, mike, i heard the desperation of First Responders. It was spreading really fast and they could not get equipment in to fight the fire. It was like a blowtorch. I think you said, steve, it was like 2 30 in the morning . It was 6 30 a. M. This is at 600 feet right above fountain grove, 61 miles per hour, 91 degrees. Above that, there was a gust of 79 miles per hour. This is similar at least in some aspects of what happened at the valley fire. You guys remember that from september. A 60mile per hour wind that went downhill, too. That went downhill, and this came from calistoga, 60 to almost 80mile per hour winds fueling that, if you will, and we had a record rainfall with high growth on top of 4 years of drought. So the fuel soils were very, very dry. Cant stop that fire. They cant stop that fire and at 5 30 30, 68 miles per hour. You two know that will do it. Now, that is not happening today but, boy, is the smoke happening. Many people are saying i cant see the carquinas strait. I want to thank our director jeff green. The budweiser brewer in fairfield, they shut down the packaging lines and started to send people home. There is too much smoke. This has never happened here before. I edited this to get it on twitter but it tells you how much fire and smoke coming in from the northeast, vacaville and fairfield. Fairfield, due east. Amazing that the wind speeds have come down and the humidity has come up, and the winds are still predominantly east or northeast, easterly to northeasterly and some are showing west. American canyon has turned west, and chicagos northeast, but the good news is nothing close to what firefighters had yesterday at this time. East or northeast from the Oakland Hills and still in San Francisco but a few locations are seeing a westerly wind. The fog is out there and there is just too much resistance. Its due south at half moon bay. Decreasing winds, cooling conditions, and higher humidity for firefighters. They will take the west southwest breeze and higher humidity and cooler temps, guys. The good news, the temperature is coming down and the humidity is coming up but the smoke just keeps coming across san pablo bay, and one final thing, i had someone say im in evergreen, san jose. We smell smoke down here. Thats how far south its gone. A long way. Long way. Thank you, steve. Pam cook said that the Marin Civic Center has opened up as a shelter, filled up. They dont need items. They are okay with the items. Monetary donations is the quickest way to help. Well come back after the break. Grown right here in california, with absolutely no antibiotics ever. A better way to grow, a better way to eat. And it starts with foster farms simply raised chicken. California grown with no antibiotics ever. If what would it say . Sh label 50 freckles. 70 unique. No matter your label all skin deserves gentleness. Thats why dove is sulfatefree. The number 1 body wash recommended by dermatologists. Welcome back. One of the biggest fires is at last peak that started in napa and has spread into solano. Allie rasmus has been speaking with firefighters in the area. Allie, what you can tell us . Reporter the mandatory evacuations are precautionary. Nothing has burned there. The fire hasnt reached the area. The evacuations are a precaution and you can see a member of the Vallejo Fire Department heading up the hill. The area is the green valley Water Treatment facility. This is owned by the city of napa excuse me. The city of vallejo and thats yet firefighter is taking the atv to get to where the fire is burning, in the canyons. You can see the smoke rising. Its not burning very quickly. The weather conditions are good. They are keeping an eye on the fire and they are not as concerned about it now as they were at 11 00 last night. At 11 00 last night, the firefighters say that the winds were stronger and they were concerned that the fire would come over the bridge and threaten the 600 homes. The water tank there, that Water Supplies water for all the fire hydrants for the 600 homes downhill from here. They are keeping an eye on thing, and its in rugged terrain where the fire is burning which is why you saw the firefighter take the atv. We have video from the fire in the hill behind the rockville, greenville neighborhood. The flames have not reached the neighborhood. The homes were evacuated as a precaution because of concerns of the winds. Still under mandatory evacuation and we dont know when they am being back. They want to push it and the canyons are tight to get in and out of, and theres a big potential to get trapped in the canyon. Reporter of the 600 or so homes, the occupants of all but 75 evacuated last night. We are keeping an eye on things out here at the greenville Water Treatment facility where the firefighters are keeping an eye on things and taking atvs to go into the mountains for a look at the fire. At least 1500 homes and businesses were destroyed. Sadly, 11 people died in the fires. Here are some of the images that our crews captained in napa and sonoma county. I looked up and a softball sized ember coming down the street. It looked like it was out of an armageddon. I went knocking on doors and ringing bells. You can only hope. I said i hate to wake you up, and 5 minutes later, mike, run. Its coming fast. You think you have 5 minutes. You dont have any minutes. We had no time. There wasnt an evacuation. It was that fast. People got in their cars and just go. Its just so scary. Its one of those things where you never think would happen. This is my childhood home. Its unbelievable standing here looking at all of this ash and like, my bicycle, its like everything just completely gone. This is its just unreal. Its devastating. Like i said, its devastating. I have my life and thats all i care, my wife and family and kids. My neighbors house burned down but they saved mine. How thankful are you . Pretty thankful. I dont know. Just trying to let it sink in right now. Its not good. We thought all the cases of water, 25, and they are really low. This is a horrific fire. I want someone to hear it from me. We have the ability and resources to do it. We have to all pitch in and do what we can if we can. I have friends that lost their homes and everything already. This is this is very devastating. Im lucky. My house is fine. My family is fine. My city is not. Its going to take a long time for us to recover. We have been showing you pictures of the devastation and we want to show what parts of santa rosa looked like before the fire off cleveland avenue before the fire hit. A building, completely destroyed. Some of the most heartbreaking pictures from hadley hill drive. After the fire, all that was left was the front gate and a brick wall. A quote i liked from the mayor was my house is fine. My family is fine. My city is not. I am hopeful, gasia, when i heard you interview the Cardinal Newman principal saying we are hoping to have the school back up and running but looking at where you are, hard to knowledge its feasible. Reporter i will be honest. We chose this Vantage Point because this is where most of the destruction is. But youre right. Fully half of the classrooms are destroyed, the front office and other buildings. So its almost unthinkable to have people return with some sort of regular routine. Theres another part of campus past this destruction that is strangely okay. Ill tell you that i just ran and used the bathroom at school. No water, no power. There was ash inside the bathroom from when i could tell. The windows were mostly sealed. That tells you how fine some of the particles are. In the far distance, i see what appears to be a fire truck moving through. That would be the first fire engine that i see all morning. They are saving places and people that can be saved. If i can pull in video we took here from about. 50 of a mile or so behind ursilin road, that is the second time that the thick black plume of smoke started and then stopped. Clearly, its an active scene even though people are treating the fire as if its out here. Thats the situation from Cardinal Newman high school. And 1 last quick look, the situation across the street where, unfortunately you will have to actually, look. Well pop it up online. The neighborhood across the street is devastation with just chimneys. We will have much more coming up today on our noon newscast and on ktvu. Com. Live from new york city, its the Wendy Williams show. Say it like you mean it feel it baby feel it now heres wendy [ applause ] wendy yeah okay. Come on.
