Three redwood city, and san carlos, i wouldnt recommend it, i would recommend l royale, and if you are getting on the freeway after marsh wrote, it looks pretty good heading south because all of the traffic is behind you. If you just started driving down the peninsula, 280 is your friend, 101, from san mateo over to palo alto, most of that is slow traffic. Across 880, it has been a mess because of a couple crashes. In fremont, we have two crashes, and that is a bad commute. Some traffic on southbound 680, and the bay bridge toll plaza is backed up. Lets go back to the desk. The hot bay area could shut down part again today, causing systemwide delays. Yesterday, there was one hour long heat related delays, affecting trains in all directions because of mechanical problems on the tracks. Bart says the tracks expand in the hot weather, they are installing new equip that can handle the heat. Pg e crews are working around the clock to restore power lines that were overwhelmed by the heat. Traffic lights went dark and homes and businesses lost power during the hottest part of the afternoon. Most of them are back online this morning, the biggest remaining outages right now are in oakland and san jose which have a combined total of about 1000 customers still in the dark. The hot weather increases the fire risk, so firefighters in Santa Clara County are preparing for a pretty long fire season. They will take part in training, that focuses on wildfires. We already know that fires are an issue across the county and the bay area, there has been two big significant fires in the county since sunday, the first one being the fire that broke out on monday afternoon, that one is about 80 contained, the other, broke out sunday, that one is 90 contained, this fire season getting underway just a few minutes ago, we spoke with the fire chief in Santa Clara County fire department, he said this is really about making sure everybody is helping out when it comes to not only wildfires, but wildland fires. The wildfire doesnt respect restriction on boundaries, it spreads into other communities, so we have to make sure we are ready to respond together. Reporter we understand, this drill is going to start around 8 30 this morning, they are going to put a dispatch out to all of the Fire Agencies in Santa Clara County, they are going to come to santa teresa. But there will be no smoke in the air, this is a simulated area, there will be no fire on the ground, this is all about working with mutual aid resources, making sure they are ready as it is wildfire season. A tragedy in San Francisco where a 14yearold boy drowned at a popular beach of christie field, the teenager was with a group of friends when he lost his footing and slipped. Rescue crews found him about 25 yards out, and immediately tried lifesaving measures but the boy died at a nearby hospital. The park service says it is federal poverty and not a beach for swimming. There are no lifeguards on duty. He should stay out of the water because of dangerous currents. Alameda county fire investors are looking for the cause of a fire an empty building in san leandro. It was reported at 11 00 last night on marina boulevard. The east bay municipal utility district will vote in an increase in water rates at todays meeting. It is very slow on the peninsula, southbound 101 in redwood city, we have that crash , they are clearing it but it has been blocking lanes for a while. I would recommend that you avoid 101 between san mateo and redwood city. If you are getting on the freeway after menlo park, that is fine, but i wouldnt do that, that would be slow, i would use 280 s. Instead of 101. The traffic is very slow. You can see on the dunbarton bridge, the traffic looks normal heading over there, heading south anyway. This is a look at 880 s. , slow all the way down to fremont. A couple of crashes have made that a mess. And check this out, traffic is backed up well into pleasanton, so all of a sudden, we went from a moderate commute to a bad one in the east bay, i would say. No problems at the bay bridge, a normal delay of about 25 minutes. Lets bring in marked with todays weather. A lot of clear skies, temperatures are starting to warm up in a few neighborhoods, we are looking for the fog but no fog just yet, things will be warm in a few neighborhoods, we could be talking about some records. These are the records we would have to beat, santa rosa, San Francisco, livermore, in san jose, look at that San Francisco number going back up. Here is our thinking for the forecast today, santa rosa could potentially be breaking a record later on this afternoon. San francisco most likely should not be. Livermore could just be shy about in san jose as well, in the upper 90s. We will be watching those numbers as they go up into the afternoon.
