Residents had to be evacuated dozens of them were seen standing in the parking lot as investigators arrived to the scene some neighbors say that the fire woke them up and they tried to fight it themselves. They also tried to explain a strange smell. Suspicious canisters and broken glass. Firefighters, police also said several suspicious items were found. A woman who did not want her face on camera says shes the one who called 911. My father like i said woke me up and said theres something down stairs burning. And i looked out to my car. So we went down stairs and walked halfway towards the carport and i saw some orange flames and so i ran back up into the house and called 911. Police were seen taking at least one person into custody. They have not released any names or said how that person may have been involved in this fire. There were no injuries. Ese waves just hitting very intense and it seems like every so often its not one right after another that theyre breaking over this barrier but some of them have been very strong even reaching just across the street and they say if anybodys going to be near the water, definitely stay off the rocks. Very dangerous situation. The National Weather service says breaking waves like the ones we have seen can wash people off beaches and rocks and even capsize small boats near the shore. The High Surf Advisory was supposed to expire at 9 00 this morning and now it will go through 9 00 tonight. Breaking waves were recorded at 25 wednesday but some spots were reporting 30 waves. The advisory will impact the coastal area from Sonoma County all the way down to Monterey County and we could see waves crashing into the pier. Last night even this morning its creating very slippery conditions and dangerous conditions especially for those pedestrians walking through here. The threat of rip currents is going up too and thats when swimmers and surfers can get pulled out into the water. In conditions like this, it can pull you out. Theres rip currents. Its just best to stay away. Even if youre standing next to the water. Weve been hearing about all these sneaker waves. Those can come up and grab you if youre not paying attention. The big waves are a surfers dream. We did catch up with surfers yesterday but even the most experienced surfer can be caught off guard by the waves. Even today, my leash broke and thankfully my nephew was inside. He caught the board. Once you lose your board things can get dicey because you lose your major flotation device. Water rescue teams were told to be ready and if you do get caught in a rip current, Safety Experts say dont fight it, swim out of it in a direction following the shoreline. He was working on his laptop tuesday inside the starbucks when someone grabbed his computer and ran to a waiting bmw. The driver took off and that knocked him into a parked car and he died. Many people in the monte claire district are concerned about a recent rash in crimes. New this morning two toddlers in chicago died early today after police say a woman stabbed her father, left one child in a bathtub, then jumped from an 11th floor apartment with her son. That fall killed her and the little boy. Authorities say the child found in the bathtub also died. Officers could not immediately confirm whether the child found in the bathtub was also the womans child. The woman was hospitalized after the jump. San francisco closed out 2019 with the lowest number of homicides in 56 years. There were 41 killings in the city last year but that is down 11 from 2018 when there were 46. City fishes say the drop is due to a collaborative effort of Law Enforcement and Community Groups focusing on neighborhoods with high crimes. San francisco still has the highest property crime rate in the country mostly driven by the high number of car break ins. But police say theyre making strides there as well. There were 600 fewer car burglaries for the first 11 months of 2019 compared with the year before.
