Although larkin didnt see what happened, he said investigators wouldnt let him move his car as the officer landed right near his sedan. I came back about an hour, hour ago and i could see theyd put the officer in the ambulance and id i couldnt tell how how injured he was, but another policeman told me that hed been thrown in, almost touch my car. So he must have been thrown about 30ft. The area around third and harrison was closed to traffic for a block in every direction for hours, while the california highway patrol, their major accident investigation team, gathered evidence taking pictures as part of their investigation. As for mike larkin, he says he drives slow, saying he knows it can be dangerous driving or walking in the city. Theres just a lot a lot to take in and people arent paying attention. The rest of his group is still stuck. Its the only person in my group who got out. We have about 60 people out there. Theyre veterans. They know what theyre doing. They got food and water. Theyre not panicking more than a half inch of rain fell at the festival site on friday. More came down this weekend. Organizers closed the festival to cars and vehicles after one death was reported, though they have not said if that death was related to the storm or not. Both john and eileen said people are making the most out of the situation. Most people are still just chilling, as you can see around me, there are some empty campsites, but people seem to have been embraced most and are not worried about getting out of here. We know that its going to dry up in both echoed the same message that people are coming together. Therell be a lot of sharing. People proactively going out and saying, hey, ive got a cup of watermelons and some cans of tuna and some water. Do you need anything . They say helping others is no surprise as a quick Online Search and youll see it everywhere. Dj and music producer diplo took to twitter to share his experience, saying he and Comedian Chris Rock walked five miles out of the festival before they were picked up by a passing fan. I asked john how he thought festival organizers were handling the situation. He said, well, and i asked him if he would return next year, which would mark his 22nd year. Sen dave cortese says that this bill will help to cut through some of the red tape that keeps housing projects on hold and will help californians longing for more Affordable Housing. We have young people moving out of the area. We have older people that are struggling with the cost of housing. California senator dave cortesi says lawmakers across the state know there isnt enough Affordable Housing. And state senate bill 406 is just one of the many steps theyre taking to do something about it. The bill addresses the environmental studies that are currently required by sequa or the California Environmental quality act. Theres just nothing worse than having a project all ready to go, ready to build, you know , ready to house people already cleared environmentally. And then just to find out that the little bit of government Financial Assistance that youre getting is going to cause you to have to go through those hoops all over again. Requires state and local agencies to evaluate and disclose the potential impact of new projects on the environment. Senate bill 406 will eliminate repetitive environmental reviews once a project has been cleared up, allowing projects to move forward in a timely fashion. This second sequa clearance will no longer be a requirement after january 1st. Cortez says there are projects throughout the bay area, including in his own district, that have been slowed down by having multiple environmental evaluations. He says california lawmakers realize they need to do all they can to build Affordable Housing faster. You know, fast has not been fast enough for the people who are seeing their kids. You know, move out of state. You know, families kind of broken up. Coastal towns such as cedar key, shown here in this video, were hit especially hard. The storm took out walls and swept away appliances as big as washing machines. Floodwaters also knocked out power as the water rose up, the sides of homes, compromising outlets. As you can see how the storm blew around, all kinds of debris obstructing driveways and taking over backyards. Many towns now in full cleanup mode with some areas already looking much better than they did just a few days ago. But those areas hardest hit know reconstruction will take a long time. All of this is going to take a while. And thats kind of whats in mind. You say, well, gosh, the weathers pretty. Everythings nice. People where. But of course, it wasnt just us. Excuse me. Its all up and down the coastline. So people are so busy with real, you know, with real plumbers and real electricians. That just takes a while. A very fall like weekend, of course, were in september right now, but temperatures cooler than they have been in a while both days, saturday and sunday. Today very similar as yesterday with temperatures generally in the 70s and some low 80s. Temperatures this week are going to stay sort of sort of mild like this, which is great for fire danger and air quality. As a matter of fact, this system right here, as it moves out, this is part of what brought all that rain and heavy not flooding, but just mud issues out in the playa for burning man. The showers are winding down. They are still getting a few scattered showers out there. But the main thing for the bay area dropped our temperatures and gave us air quality. That is just outstanding. So air quality today green for everybody and thats how its going to go again tomorrow. So were into a mild pattern that is going to hang on. These are the highs from today. So low 80s, 81in santa rosa, 80in fairfield, 79. Antioch ill see you back here with the full forecast. Well see you in a bit, bill, thank you. And if im the president , yes, i will pardon him because that will help reunite the country. But its not the most important thing im going to do as the next president. It is the table stakes for moving this country forward. I dont think president trumps going to be the nominee. I think its going to be me. But i will tell you that any republican is better than what joe biden and Kamala Harris are doing. I say with humility, im im just simply the most experienced, most tested and proven conservative running for the republican nomination today. But with you know, with with regard to the polling, its just not what im seeing on the ground. A wall street journal poll shows mr. Trump leading with 59 of republican primary votes. When i was ten, my dad was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. Selah kitchener remembers her dad went through chemotherapy and was in remission. But three years later he was rediagnosed with lung cancer and went into hospice care at home. At the same time, kellys health suddenly declined too. She was just 13. He had a lot of medical mistrust and a lot of fear in the medical system, so he didnt really want me going to the hospital right away because he felt like he wasnt taken very well. Care of. And he thought that the same thing was going to happen to me. I bounced back and forth between a couple of hospitals not really knowing what was going on, getting misdiagnosed a couple of times and eventually did end up at ucsf and was diagnosed with end stage liver failure as she waited a couple of months for a transplant, her dad died. Selah says two weeks after he passed, she received a new liver. Selah was the first patient to receive a solid organ transplant at ucsfs Mission Bay Campus shortly after it opened. Five months later, she was back on the Basketball Court with a new lease on life. Fast forward to now. The 22 year old is a usc graduate pursuing medical school. I would say just the parental role that my care team was able to step into with my dad passing away only weeks before i got my transplant. Libraries also closed. Wall street will also be shut down. The New York Stock Exchange reopens tuesday after ending friday, up 115 points. And labor day is a time to honor and really reflect upon the importance and history of workers in americas economy, society and achievements. Ktvu is tom vacar spoke to one of the nations leading work experts about two issues that continue to shake americas workforce. We have the shortages. We asked employment lawyer and former director Michael Bernick to compare labor day 2023 to 2022. Its really the Seismic Shift of the pandemic. Hes talking about remote work, which he says is not dying off, as many believed it would or should. Remote work is here to stay. Its only it hasnt really decreased significantly, at least in most parts of the bay area. The other soon to come, Seismic Shift is the impact of Artificial Intelligence on jobs. Artificial intelligence wasnt even an issue. It is exploded. The main impacts over the next year will be how ai impacts and frankly impacts positively. In most cases, existing jobs. As californias employment is now at 4. 6 higher than the national average, but still relatively low since last labor day. On average, wages have grown over 4. At the same time, though, its below the wage growth we had in 2022 at labor day, which was 5. 2, and even more importantly, its been undercut by the continued inflation. Though californias job gains have slowed considerably, the golden state is still gaining jobs. In 2022, we had over 50,000 jobs gained per month, and thats gone down the last month gain was about 28,000. And i think were going to continue to see continued slowdown due to the higher Interest Rates beginning to have their fuller impact as well as the depleted consumer savings tech layoffs continue from last labor day, but at a much slower pace. One issue unchanged from last year, was and remains the lack of workers needed to fill lower paying direct service and nonunion blue collar jobs. Tom vacar ktvu fox two news new figures from the bureau of labor statistic six show the five sectors experiencing significant worker shortages. Manufacturing topping the list with 550,000 job openings in july. Construction is next with about 363,000 jobs available. There are shortages also of commercial airline pilots, High School Teachers and school bus drivers. California still uses watchtowers to prevent the spread of wildfire wildfires. We will hear from those who volunteer their time to keep those blazes from getting out of control. And were in a pretty mild weather pattern. Fogs back at the coast. Temperatures just in the 70s and low 80s. Today, ill let you know what you can expect for the rest of the week. Round the clock. Reporter erin heath tells us that over the years these workers have spotted several large wildfires up among the buzzards is sitting still inside the forest in Amador County stands the mount zion lookout. We currently have a 360 degree view on a clear day, we can see up to 100 miles a first line of defense when combating wildfires. The lake comanche Jackson Valley area staffed right now largely because of the work of rich martin. I believe that the human eye is the best tool up in the lookout tower, northwest, we can see the pilot peak range, which is where another cal fire lookout is located, showing us the ins and outs of their day to day operation missions. The mount zion tower is one of two fire lookouts in both amador and el dorado county, staffed by 18 volunteers. Some of whom have been the first eyes on some of our regions most devastating recent wild fires. You have called in fires from this tower before . Yes what is that like . Its like you see the smoke and. Oh, my. Deborah abrams says its from here. That she was the first to call in both the oak fire, which was at the time 60 miles away. And also the alpine lumber mill fire through this little tiny line and lining up the crosshairs that are right here. Also from here, she says shes helped track both the electra and caldor fires three and the miles. And then we look at the smoke that were going to call in, standing at over 3000ft in elevation, giving a unique and extremely helpful perspective, this tradition of fire. Watch dating back to 1928 being carried out every day to help ensure the safety of the many communities. Northern californians call home. And again, that was erin heft reporting a driver of a pickup truck was rescued from the bottom of a ravine after driving over the edge of a cliff five days earlier. Crews near bakersfield and kern county found the driver yesterday after receiving a report of a badly damaged truck that plunged over a cliff. Authorities say crews placed the driver in a stretcher and then used a rope to lift that driver to safety. The person was then airlifted to the hospital. Still no word on the drivers condition. All righty. Taking a look at the long range model, i want you to see the trends this week. And this is basically tonight you see the showers out in nevada. Those are showers that went rained on the playa all weekend up in lake tahoe. Showers as well. Mount shasta areas in redding, red bluff on friday and saturday. So watch the you see the dip right there. Kind of in the central valley. Watch what it does. It sort of straightens out, but then see that little i hope you can see this up by eureka. See that counterclock wise circle . Thats a short wave comes in and keeps us cool. So it rides in on that. Then we get a little break and then another little shortwave just north of the bay area. That little, that little dip. Its just a small little trough and thats going to keep us going all week with this sort of mild pattern, certainly into friday and saturday and with a mild pattern. Were talking about temperatures not that dissimilar to what we had today. Tomorrow will be similar, maybe a degree or two warmer. And then the warmest days as we get to the weekend are just going to be in the mid and upper 80s in the hot spots, which is a good thing to have at this time in terms of september, fire danger, that whole deal. So these are the highs from today, highs tomorrow are going to be a couple of degrees warmer. And were going to hover in the 80s in the warmest inland spots at the coast. The fog will be a player. Theres the low. You cant you can kind of see it anytime you see the flow like this, thats the main low, the long wave low. And then those little short waves pass inside of it or on top of it, sort of like a little ripple. And thats what were going to see the next couple of days. Are these ripples passing through doesnt mean rain, but it does mean continued deep marine layer and cool pattern. So temperatures right now are running cooler than they were last night at this time. By a couple of degrees. So five degrees cooler in fairfield, six degrees cooler in vallejo. So the plan lessen fire danger, not as huge as it could be and mild weather. So here we are right now and there we are tomorrow morning. You see the fog footprint, maybe some drizzle offshore. And then tomorrow afternoon in fog at the coast, clear inland. So whats the plan tomorrow . Just like today, tuesday, almost. Just like today as well, except slightly warmer. But again, temperatures not in the 90s but in the mid and upper 80s. So the forecast for tomorrow, look for yellows. Those are your 70s. Oranges are your 80s and you can see its a mild footprint. That is a kind of a fall weather pattern right there. If you look at the temperature footprint, these are the forecast highs for all the warm spots will be out in fairfield about 86, 84 in antioch. And were heading for a week. Thats going to be kind of pleasant in terms of high temperatures. Air quality has gotten much better. Fire danger takes a little bit of a break. So theres the five day forecast. Ill pop the weekend in here real quick, too, for you. There you go. And well be back here at 11. Updated all right. See you soon, bill. Thank you. In the first inning, juan soto gets into an alex cobb pitch with a runner on number 28 on the year for soto puts the padres in front two. Nothing they got three in the inning. Meckler throw not close, but the ball takes a nice bounce to bailey, who can easily apply the tag on bogaerts just the way they drew it up. But despite that play, the giants went down four to nothing as four padre pitchers allowed just four hits, gave. Kapler was asked about a familiar topic this season, his teams lack of offense. These guys are going up there grinding as hard as they can. That doesnt necessarily lead to two runs, unfortunately, but theyre giving everything they have. This is a team that is working very hard pregame to get ready for the game. Were just not getting results. So we have to keep working, keep pulling levers, keep trying things to get the best version of our offense to come out. Up next for the giants is four games at Wrigley Field beginning tomorrow afternoon, the cubs and reds are both in the thick of the wild card race. They were tied five five today in the eighth with chicagos Nick Madrigal singled up the middle to drive in two. That opened the floodgates and the cubs got seven in the inning and three in the ninth. And they win it 15 to 7. Miami at washington in a tight game in the ninth, the marlins, brian de la cruz hits a two out blooper down the right field line.
